Guitar Hero Outsells Rock Band Almost 3-to-1 in November

The music genre overall was down six percent in dollar sales for November, but the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises still remain quite popular. Unfortunately for EA, which has been suffering of late, Activision's property has simply been more popular.

1 - OMFG ROCK BAND IS DEAD!
I mean, because Guitar Hero outsold it in one month, that means the Rock Band franchise is dead and the makers should be worried.

Isn't that so Mr.Buffa ;) ?

1.1 - Rock band is good and all...but
I have more fun the guitar hero world tour....plus you can record your own music...it is just a different game from the last one unlike rock band 2 compared to rockband 1.

I haven't tried World Tour yet I only have GH3, but looking at the song lists for each game, I prefer GH over RB. I don't really care if every gaming website and hardcore gamer is behind RB, that's all crap to me. I'm fine with a GH3 guitar and the GH games.

I prefer rockband to just for the fact that with 5 dollars more i can pass all of the songs from rock band 1 to rock band to and use all of my bought songs too plus the song choice in rockband 2 for me is better.... but it looks like rockband is dead since GHWT sold more shoot this industry is stupid like that

it's sad what name brand can do.

GH:WT fails in comparison to RB. This is coming from a GH fan. GH:WT has some good ideas but it just doesnt come together.

Rock band has better songs and more songs to download.

2 - still like RB2
Still playing RB2 over GHWT now. with more DLC and a much bigger "game" to complete, I'm already bored with GHWT. I played thru the solo tours and then...blah. I wish they would have set it up like all the gigs and venues in band world tour for rb2. I still enjoy both, but RB2 for me has much more replay value, even tho the music maker is a nice gimmick in GHWT.

I honestly think that while Guitar Hero: World Tour is probably trumping Rock Band in sales (undeservingly, in my opinion), I don't think that they have factored in the DLC sales, which are direct profit.

Rock Band recently announced passing the mark of 28 million DLC downloads. When you consider that the average cost of a song is 1.99, they've made at least $50 million on downloadable content ALONE.

I'm still playing Rock Band, not even touching Guitar Hero at all (and haven't in at least a year). It still doesn't feel like the huge experience Rock Band is now.

Sure, they factored in sales numbers, but I don't think Activision can touch that extra $50m on DLC revenue anyways, which is mysteriously absent from this article.

It's because of South Park

And I don't really care about these games anyway. To me it's like ''McDonalds outsells Burger King 3 to 1''

5 - And Rock Band's song list is
3 times to 1 better better than GHWT. Any song track with La Bamba is automatic epic fail.

Guitar Hero selling better means it's the better game and Rock Band is doomed.

It's funny, because Rock Band is the better game.

Guess quality really doesn't have anything to do with sales.

It never did. Some of the best games you never hear about and barely sell. The same can be said for music and movies. But keep in mind the words"some of the best" not all.

Case in point... Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts. Two brilliant games cursed to sell virtually nothing.

Quality has nothing to do with sales.

Case in point Halo-3, 8 million sold.

Valkyria Chronicles, 100k sold.

Sarcasm - 8 million people bought and continue to play Halo 3 because it lacks quality?

Your opinion is it lacks quality, the people who buy and continue play Halo enjoy the games. Your opinion alone does not make a game lack quality.

I believe Beyond Good and Evil was one of the best games I played last generation, but several people I know said it was crap, were they right? No! It is just their opinion, use some common sense, what you like and dislike isn't fact.

True. One person's likes and dislikes doesn't mean anything. But when a majority of the people who DO play it, love it... then I'd say that has a little credit into what makes it critically well-received.

For example, I personally am not a fan of RPGs, but I still realize that games like Mass Effect, Final Fantasy #, Elder Scrolls, etc. are well made and are well-received.

General consensus is really about the only method we have of determining a game's quality. If not for that, then it can easily be determined that Shaq Fu is, without a doubt, the best fighting game in history.

Exactly most of the reviews say that between Rock Band 2 and GH:WT you have to make your decision based on the music that ships with the game.

AC/DC 19 songs ( I inculded both "let there be rock") > than 5 hendrix songs. I have less than 90 Guitar Hero songs while I have 300+ RB2 songs with 500+ to choose from ... No brainer really also the whole drum experience in rock band is far better.

How much does it cost to download Rock Band tracks?

Isn't Guitar Hero World Tour doing the weekly track packs now too?

i'm laughing so much its hurts ....

This is ridiculous , they are both basically the same game , to the point that one could trick the less Hardcore gamers among us , by labelling a gh4 video with the name rb2 , without them seeing a difference .

Some guys here and around most game forums , are as usual way too bitter and spiteful ... especially when they differences between the two games are far too few and minors .

HERE WE GO HATERS , HERE is the extent of your idiocy :
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Hell they even share many songs ....
I first picked GH WH for a simple fact , the guitar and drums are better .
I still got RB2 because , well i love those kind of games , and couldnt care less about who's the bad guy and stole who ...
I mean why even fight over two greedy entity like EA and activision , they are both the same evil , but it's another subject .

So who care if people bought GH based on the brand , GH is the same game with undeniable upgrades for the material , and a playlist that can appeal to more people . More people indeed ... sorry but when i'm at a party , people are more inclined to ask 3 times over the night "Beat it" than some Judas Priest ...

Now RB2 got imo a more "pure" and rock worthy selection of songs , and a massive edge with dlc and rock band 1 compatibility .

Activision dropped the ball over the dlcs so far , while EA did far too little with the instruments .. but in the end both games own , and if you actually like the genre you get both game anyway , unless one's choice of songs isnt really to your taste.

Too little with the instruments? It was made so that people wouldnt have to buy a whole new set in order to play the game. In my eyes.. that was smart move.
