Halo 3: Recon is No More … Now it's Halo 3: ODST

This morning, Bungie has announced that they are dropping the name "Halo 3: Recon," and instead renaming the game Halo 3: ODST to give "a more straightforward account of the experience that awaits."

Soon, all instances of the name Recon on official websites and Xbox LIVE Marketplace will be changed to reflect the new name

Halo 3... ODST... Yeah. I suppose now, at least, there will be no more confusion with the Recon Armor.

Still, who thought the best way of marketing the game was to drop in an acronym no one save Halo gamers has ever heard of or will know how to pronounce? Next year at Christmas, you know there's going to be at least one unhappy camper who asks his mom for ODST and winds up with a tightly wrapped OST (Original Soundtrack) instead.

Well they had just hired turniphead and well known game ruiner Christian Allen. One of the biggest pinheads ever. With his record of ruining Ghost Recon and not having the balls to admit it, it was still a smart move for Bungie to have changed the name.

ODST?! it sounds like a behaviour disorder! someone at the bungie brainstorming session must have realised this is a lot less marketable?

im not saying that Recon was the best idea ( what with the whole Recon armour thing) but it sure as hell sounded better than ODST. i can picture myself on the bus talking to a friend and the person in front will think ive got some kind of sex disease or behaviour problems

That said it could it could be called "Halo 3 : Microsoft cash cow FTW!!!11 lolololz" and it would still bucket loads

But I do agree that it is really not the best name to use. Only some Halo fans know what it means. To everyone else, it's just a confusing acronym. Helljumpers would be perfect in my opinion.

The game is basically fan service, so maybe they wanted a title that reflected that more accurately.

You comment on all the sequels to 360 games, then mention how excited you are about two sequels on the PS3. Talk about faulty systems...

On a side note, I do believe that the Dark Knight will be awesome on Blu-Ray. God of War 3 will be sweet and I might give Killzone 2 a try. After Halo 5 and Gears 2.5 of course. :)
