Remember guy those are not awards, gears got 5 nominees, MGS4 got 5 nominees(it also got nominated for Best Performance by a Human Female and male, which make a total of 7 nominees for MGS4), and so did LBP, it got 5 nominees + best developer for Media Molecule, the only bias I've seen in the nominees is Insomniac not getting nominated for Studio of the Year.

MGS4 has few to little CGI. Many if not all the cutscenes are in game graphic. If you've played it, you would know this. Ex. What ever camouflage and mask you have on will appear in the cutscene and you can turn your camo off during cutscene.

That's awesome!!! So you mean when you can interact in every cut scene its CGI, meaning since it's interactive it's not a movie meaning the WHOLE game is CGI! OMG you finally proved that MGS4 has the best graphics since the whole game is in CGI running smoothly!!

1) GeoW2 is all close combat everything is faded past a short distance.
2) MGS4 has steady framerate no matter how far into the distance you're looking.

Both are nice looking games, period. MGS4's graphics would probably only be superior on some massive LCD TV with 1080p. Which the majority of people DO NOT OWN. So who do you think will get overall best graphics? The award goes to the game that can perform on all levels, and not to a certain group of people who can completely pull it out.

While R2 has pretty good MP, it's not the best IMO. Personally I think it's between L4D, COD 5, and Gears 2(when it actually works) for multiplayer. Actually, even LBP should be a contender before R2. It's a community focused game afterall. It's very enjoyable to go through user-created levels with friends.

R2 MP does its' job, but there are other good games out there that do it better.

R2's MP.... For me it really sucks

Coop is a pain when people don't stick together and perform their roles. Titans/primarchs sometimes get stuck, and sometimes they don't react at all. It's a pain having to make a whole new room all over again after finishing a mission.

Competitive is annoying. The squad system doesn't work out, and everyone just does their own thing. It just turns into a big mess which IG tried to avoid in the first place. All in all, it's just a frag fest that tries to fill in the shoes of COD4.

Overall, I think this game is another good reason why I should keep playing the KZ2 beta. It just sucks. Campaign is only my favorite portion. But there are some weird things with the physics. But all the bosses besides the swarm were just too easy.

MGS4 as a whole, deserves GOTY. If you take out the story, no it doesn't. But you can't ignore the story, so I really think it deserves GOTY. Mass Effect was praised for its' story telling ability. Let the PS3 have it's glory game for once.

Gears of War was what sold me on 360. It's my favorite game, and I've played the multiplayer since it came out. Gears of War 2 came out, and it is even better. Gears 2 now takes over as my favorite game. Despite all of that, I still give credit where credit is due. MGS4 was a game for the fans, and overall, it deserved the 10s it received.

In a nutshell, Gears had its success back in 2006. Let another game get it this time.

Yes. Two of which were once highly touted as Xbox 360 exclusives. But in order for those two games to reach game of the year status, they both seen releases on PLAYSTATION®3. Which ultimately made both games better since they were taking advantage of the cell processor and the multiple SPU's inside the PLAYSTATION®3. You can blame Xbox 360 for releasing 60.00 beta copies to the gullible Microslaves, but the sole reason for these titles reaching game of the year is due to the fact they were brought to PLAYSTATION®3.

LBP isn't actually up for studio of the year, Media Molecule is. I suppose you can count it, but the actual game can't win it.

Best soundtrack is the other one, and personally I think it's going to go to LBP because every song sets the mood of the level. I personally enjoyed the My Patch song.

Quit spreading BS. MGS4 does not run at 60 fps, nor does it have great textures. http://www.monstersandcriti... Its textures are decent, but that is all. The textures in GEOW2 are far more detailed. Also, did you know that MGS4 does not even run at HD resolutions natively? It actually is natively lower in resolution that Gears of War 2. When I look at MGS4 I can tell that it is rendering at less than 720p because it looks slightly soft or fuzzy. Seriously, try switching between Gear 2 or Assassin's Creed and MGS4 and you will see how much softer MGS4 looks.

Alright, to the guy that disagrees (which means you think any game that doesn't sell well isn't good and any game that sells well is good):

Have fun playing Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Party 8, Mario & Sonic At The Olympics, Saints Row, every year's Madden, any Tony Hawk game you care to think of, Eyetoy: Play, and Spider-Man: The Movie: The Game. These games all sold a couple million + so they're all good games in your opinion.

I'll have fun playing Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Ninja Gaiden 2, Eternal Sonata, Resistance 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Xenogears, No More Heroes, Super Mario RPG, Metroid Prime 3, etc. None of these games sold as many as all of the stuff I mentioned in the previous paragraph, so obviously they must not be worth playing at all.

Don't be ridiculous. Just because I picked a PS3 game for game of the year? Give me a break. Did it ever occur to you that someone who plays games on PS3, 360, PC, and Wii could honestly choose Metal Gear Solid 4 as the winner of some of these categories?

Is it because I selected Resistance 2 as best multiplayer game and best shooter? Well, I got Resistance 2 and I got Gears 2, and I prefer Resistance 2. I'm not going to pick a game that I don't like as much as the other just to give a fair balance of winners to each system. No, I'm going to pick what I think is the better game.

So my top 5 games this year, just in case you're curious, are:

Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
Resistance 2
Fallout 3
Fable 2

I have a feeling I'm being called a fanboy because I picked Resistance 2, MGS4, and LittleBigPlanet for a lot of things. Well, did it ever occur to you that I enjoyed those 3 games immensely? For one, I'm not the only one to enjoy those games. I mean, if you look at IGN's reviews this year, what are the highest rated games of 2008, across all platforms? Not counting downloadable games, these all got 9.5 or better:

Grand Theft Auto 4 - 10
Metal Gear Solid 4 - 10
Fallout 3 - 9.6
Little Big Planet - 9.5
Resistance 2 - 9.5
Gears of War 2 - 9.5
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 9.5

From the perspective of that one source, it should be perfectly acceptable for anyone to choose any of those games as their favorite of the year. If you go to Metacritic, you'll see that the majority of reviewers out there would concur that LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4 are the two best exclusive games of this year. So, I'm guessing that most people would be OK with my selecting those for a lot of the awards they were nominated for without me having to necessarily be a fanboy to think they're the best at what they do this year. Yeah? So, then should I also assume I'm being called a fanboy primarily because I selected Resistance 2 over Gears of War 2? Because in that particular case, the MAJORITY of reviewers did not make the same call that I made? Well, IGN and Gamespot gave both games the same score, and I firmly believe that both are excellent games and any gamer should feel perfectly good about selecting either one as their favorite shooter of the year. They both deserve it. I prefer Resistance 2. So shoot me.

I'm sick to death of being called a fanboy because I enjoy Resistance 2 more than Gears of War 2. Does the word "preference" mean anything to anybody? Resistance 2 has something called "berserks" in the multiplayer gameplay, and I think they add tremendous depth to the game. Every shot you take that hits its mark nets you XP, which goes towards leveling up your character (and you earn new equipment and berserks for ranking up). It's a very satisfying MMO-esque aspect of a shooter, and I find it addictive as hell. These features have me going back to Resistance 2 every single day for more multiplayer action. If you can't accept that somebody would honestly prefer R2 over Gears 2, having played both extensively, then YOU are the fanboy.

Now I'm that way with Resistance 2.

Gears 2 is still a great game, though.

This year has been so great for gamers that everybody with a current-gen system has something ridiculously awesome and addictive to enjoy!
