IMO the whole game was big leap compared to Gears 1. The campaign was definitely better than the first, all the extra features they put in like Horde mode, party system(even though its kind of broken right now), the new gameplays/weapon/characters/bi gger maps. Gears 2 didn't disappoint me like halo3 did. The only thing that's disappointing me is the problems with the matchmaking but that should be fix fairly soon.

To me the story seemed hackneyed. They were trying fit too many story threads into a 6 hour campaign that just didn't work. I was totally lost when Tai took his own life. Didn't know whether it was b/c he was infected or b/c he couldn't stand the torture. Either way he was still standing b4 he shot himself randomly. Dom's love with maria doesn't go into any depth except for the fact that he keeps missing her and wants to find her. The flashback didn't help at all and lacked a personal moment of any sort. CliffyB cut so much cinematics out (i guess due to his criticism of MGS4) that half the time I couldn't muster any emotions for new junior Carmine and other charcs. Yeah there were "document" pickups to flesh out the story... but I would take lengthier cinematics over having to read text any day.

Gameplay is certainly still king... but story was weaker in my opin. The first game had a mystique about the world. The 2nd one played to too many cliches.

You don't have to play the first one to enjoy the second, but it helps flesh out the story line. Gears is one of those rare games that is actually more fun in co-op. If you decide to get it, try playing through with a friend first.

I can see that being true, because the whole time I was playing Gears 1 I was thinking "this game would be better if I had some real back-up"
But I rather have a fun SP mixed in with a CooP option that makes that game even more fun. As it stands Gears 1 (for me anyway) has an okay SP and the Coop would be the only way to really have fun with the title.

And for me when comes to playing games online I'm not very team-oriented. I just wanna go in, shoot face and make sure I got more kills then anybody else. It's the arcade mentality I carry, pwn face and call it a day. Doesn't always happen but it's fun not having to depend and be depending on by other people.

I totally agree. I don't come here for Joe Blow's opinion on something, I can make up my own. I came to this site because it was called NEWS for GAMERS. What I see is PISSING MATCH BLOGS for FANBOYS most of the time. If blogs are fair game, I don't want to hear the MS crowd complain when someone doesn't like their precious Gears of War (they WILL complain) and at the same time I don' want to hear the Sony faithful complain when someone doesn't like their precious LBP (they WILL complain).

i'm not sure what agme tur playing, but saying gears 2 doesn't look good is just foolish

especially looking at sections of the campaign such as inside the worm, and the palace

you can't honestly look at those areas and say this game didn't look good, they were some of the best looking environments seen in a game to date

as for characters again, some of the best looking models out there, and very well animated for being as bulky as they are

honestly i can't see your texture complaint,for the most part the texturing is unbelievable, the only muddy textures i've seen are those that are meant to look that way such as the ground textures in some places

someone really needs to recheck the qualifications for being a mod, especially the part about being unbiased

n4g is really a joke anymore and the onyl reason I come here is that I can get the articles from the real game sites in 1 place....that is when i have the time and energy to trudge through the fake and the terrible

A good story helps too. I don't play Final Fantasy much for the gameplay anymore, I'm more interested in the story to be honest.

I'm sure someone will agree with me: the gameplay was OKish but the story more than made up for it.

Why don't you check out the freaking Black Friday listing at Gamestop and see which games are in the bargain bins. Looks like xbox 360s are almost giving games away. Check out Rainbow 6 2 = FREE! LOL!

Lowering the price to near give away levels are the only way MS is even competing right now with Sony. And guess what they are still getting outsold worldwide.
