I haven't logged into my xbox live for months. PSN either. I guess I'll check out both NXE and Home when they're released, but I pop in game, play, turn off machine. I'm wondering if I'm one of the only ones who do that ...

First the hardware..now software.

So i have my 360 ellite hooked up via HDMI. everything was fine before this update..now...No SOUND watsoever...messed with the settings still no good. I am returning it to Bestbuy and gettin a ps3. i may not be playing anything but at least i can actually HEAR

Sneaky way of trying to make it look as if it had as many Cons as Pros.

TechRadar review is much more comprehensive and interesting. The main point of this is that the interfase is better, more user friendly, FASTER and you can do a lot of things you could not do in the past (Full Blade at any point, Game installations, Parties, etc...)

In short it DOES deliver, and PrimeTime will be available down the road. It's the best console OS upgrade ever made and pretty much period. If Sony will be able to outdo this we'll know with time (problem is, how much more time??) but in the present there's only one product out there and it's leaps and bounds above what available in other consoles.

(By the way, the kid writing the article should learn that "From" uses only one "f")

I think it delivered. It's not like you get a downgraded experience. You can party chat, photo party, optional installs, etc. My favorite was the feature to delete 0 Gamerscore games. Not really something to be excited about but no one wants those things taking up space on your Gamercard.

C'mon man, you know the PS3 "no games" argument doesn't apply. Just grab you some LBP, Socom, MGS4, R2, MotorStorm, Valkyria Chronicles, The Last Guy, WipeOut HD, PixelJunk Eden/Monsters, and on and on...

Oh, and of course "you're getting a PS3". What a convenient comment.

Anyways, for those who ACTUALLY are getting this problem, there's a temporary solution:

- Take off your HDD while the system is off
- Turn on your system
- After the dashboard loads, plug in the HDD

Your system should automatically reboot with the audio enabled once again. Don't worry, this does not do any damage to the 360, HDD or save data.

This should work fine until Microsoft releases a patch. These problems are to be expected in a 25 million user base console, at least it isn't bricking consoles like some other infamous updates.

Comments like these, are also to be expected. Microsoft delivered in time and quality, something the competition needs to learn, you know, users also get tired of the regular "Ready when it's done" comment.

I forgot about it as well, but I woke up at 4 o'clock a.m. and wanted to play a couple games, when the update was waiting for me! After I downloaded it, I started looking around until I hooked up with some friends. The next thing I know, it's almost 4 o'clock p.m.

The worst part is... 70% of the time, we weren't playing games! We were mostly just messing around with the avatars and checking out some other things!

Ps3 owners... Look foward to home, and make sure you and all of your friends have headsets, because the headset helps make it a more fun experience! If the NXE is good with the features they added... HOME should be a great thing with all of the stuff they are adding to it!

A few other things I noticed was when I installed GTA 4 on the HDD, the graphics seemed a bit more crist and realistic looking, and everything loaded alot better than before! I didn't think I would like the avatar thing, but so far it aint so bad.

Honestly did anyone forget about the 2.# firmware updates for the PS3 that bricked how many machines!? seriously this is a big update give it time to work out the kinks... i would be mad as well if it screws up my machine but thats the way it is

No need to install if you don't want to. Not to mention that all of the games won't see much of an advantage from it. Case by case basis, and matter of preference. Don't need to install, then play the old fashioned way. The games will still work.

I don't think it's a ploy to sell more hard drives but a test run to see how people will accept HDD installs on consoles (entire game, not partial) and how well it works. If they successfully get people used to the idea then they will more than likely use that technique on the next Xbox. That way piracy would go down and they wouldn't have to pay royalties to Sony to use Blu-Ray disks.

Mandatory installs are not a ploy...they are dev decisions.

Microsoft are continually trying to "fix" their console by 'upgrades' such as these.

We all know that if the all 360 SKUs came with hard drives that it would have mandatory installs as well. PS3 devs are just taking advantage of that space, and plenty of it, to enhance the gaming experience.

Agreed.

The OS should be there to support all the important stuff. In some ways it's both the most and least important thing on a console.

I really don't care about the added features as long as I can log in quickly and get a game launched.

But the masses of added value is always welcome as long as it doesn't impact on the previous point I made.

NXE is an improvement in almost every way; but I can't understand why people are hyping or hating on an OS!
