10 Things You Should Know About The New Xbox Experience

The New Xbox Experience, a.k.a. the new Xbox 360 Dashboard, hits today. If you've got an Xbox 360 that's connected to the internet, you're going to be prompted to update your console as soon as you turn it on. No exceptions; this is what your machine will look like until either it dies, you die, or Microsoft decides to make ANOTHER Xbox Experience. Unfortunately, unlike Batman, you didn't have time to prepare. Here are the ten things you should know about the new Xbox experience so you can be set for today.

I like shininess.
but other than that...
It's too cluttered.
I hope they give me more than 2 pages worth of possible outfits and such, or else it will be "the attack of the xbox live clones."

9) So, are the adverts for anything or just games? It's probably OK for games but if there are adverts for, say, hair gel then that's just wrong.

I didn't have much time to mess around with it, as I had to be in to work, but from the time I spent with it, it is actually pretty sweet. The Avatars aren't as bad or annoying as I thought they would be.

I love the Hard Drive install. INstalled GOW2 on my hard drive, I'll check out the differences tonight.

I also really like how they implemented the acheivements, and they now show the last time you played a particular game. I don't know if that was in there before, but its new to me.

All in All, its a really good update.

I heard this update could brick the system, as MS are doing online security checks for flashed drives - apparently its something to do with the type of drive you have, the older it is the more likely something will happen even if it isn't flashed, becareful!...

It looks better but I hate the avatars. I wish they didn't force you to make one.

12 - My verdict...
Some things are better, like game-specific downloads and the interface speed. And some things are worse, such as the size of the in-game Dashboard and the overall cluttered feel to the interface.

13 - I wonder where Patchstation is, since he's always talking about updates to the PS3, now 360's doing the same thing.
"Instead of sticking to the Spring/Fall update cycle, NXE allows Microsoft to roll out incremental updates for your Xbox whenever they're ready. This means more timely feature bumps (stuff like Netflix, for example), and special one-off changes that can skin your interface based on whatever hot game is due out soon. And hell, who wouldn't want to be able to download a Gears of War suit for your avatar?"

I guess he'll fall in love with it, because needed updates are really nice, and you can see your console "grow" in time instead of being "bumped-up" every six months.

It was never a bad thing, because things that were brought up were addressed in a timely matter instead of semi-annually.
