RUMOR: 'Halo 3: Recon' To Headline Major Downloadable Games

Along with the GTAIV update next year, Halo 3: Recon could be one of the first games out of Microsoft that will be sold in retail and online at the same time. Half-Life 2 Episode 3 may also make its way to Xbox Live Marketplace.

1.1 - Yeah, it is.
I know another company that tried that...successfully. Starts with an "S" and ends with an "ONY".

I like my XBOX and all, but I'll buy the disc thank you very much. With the crappy proprietary hard drives that are outrageously priced, at least I'll be able to make some dough off selling it used.

This sounds like someone listened to hiphopgamer's show and just echoed their rumours.

Cripes.

Let us not forget that Bungie has said in their own podcast that this is a retail disk purchase and will NOT be downloaded.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to get this onto Live as a downloadable piece. I like downloads and all, no lines to wade through for hot new releases, and they probably let you download and pre-load your console a day or two before you can play it (like some steam games), but for the 360 we need cheaper, competitively price and higher capacity alternatives to the current hard drive offerings. Either a) price reduce the 120 gig model down to under a hundred dollars (CDN) and introduce a higher density version too a respectable price (320 gig 5400 RPM drives are around 130 bucks CDN right now, give or take), b) introduce a cradle adapter to the 360 that will allow us to exchange and connect any 2.5 inch drive to the 360 and finally c) let us plug in a USB HDD for storage.

It all comes down to what Microsoft thinks will make more money: sales of accessories (we all know that is a 360 problem), sale of the content itself and allow the consumer to choose the storage medium, or some combination of both (which they seem to be banking on now).

Nickel and Dime FTW!! Microsoft will rape the arcade owners if this is true, but they need to compete with the downloads of PSN

Perhaps you should take three steps back and examine the Xbox's portfolio this holiday season:

Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Mirror's Edge is just beginning of the "not shooters" genre. I know they're not Microsoft exclusive but they do add variety to the console.

If you listen to the last podcast Halo 3: Recon is only going to come out on disk. They have no plans to put it out on xbox live

Yeah, because everyone knows how metacritic (the average of corporate sponsored websites) AND sales determine the quality of a game, and not your own preferences. I guess we all have to bow to the almighty Halo franchise even if we don't like it because well... we HAVE to like it because meta, sales and fanboys said so!

So what is GTA San Andreas?

Alan Wake is not exclusive? Holy cow. Please take your fanboyism and go somewhere else.

I'd Halo 3 Recon is not a game? So what is it? A calculator program? Or is it a new version of QuickBooks to help you budget in these hard times?

11 - Not impressed right now.
There trying to play cath up and do the things they said were not important to gaming or needed. Downloadable games? They were the ones saying the 360 would never need a hard drive so arcade owners wouldn't get screwed. DLC for fallout both systems, GTA DLC no ones interested, Halo Recon sounds interesting probably will be screwed up like Halo, Half-Life IMO overrated. Now to the exclusives Halo Wars if done well good be a hit. Splinter Cell The last one got away from what made it great(plus didn't they scrape this game to start over?), Alan Wake will see if its worth it. Killer Instinct to big of a maybe. I think people need to relize if you think your going to download a game on release it will take a while not to mention probably screw up the online network. XBL and PSN have both had there issues with this.

13 - LOL@ people thinking DLC or expansions = games
No. GTA4 DLC/mission pack is NOT a game
No. Fallout 3 new city pack is NOT a game
No. Halo 3 expansion pack is NOT a game.

Burnout Paradise exclusively online on PSN is a game.
Wipeout HD is.
Warhawk is.
Gran Turismo Prologue is.

Sony leading the way, Microsoft sucking on dirt.

Halo 3: Recon is not an expansion and not coming out on live, its only going to be a disk. They, bungie, stated that in their last podcast

you dont even play as the chief, you are set in the same time as halo 2 but its not an expansion of Halo 3 storyline it just uses the Halo 3 engine.

I do agree that DLC is not a game
