as I said this game is drop dead gorgeous

it's one of the most well crafted and enjoyable games ever

horde mode is absolutely fantastic

the game is miles better than gears 1

looks like the gears series will mark its name as one of the best franchises ever,epic is on the right direction,admit it guys,please sony fans,it's fcn amazing and 360 fans,you got to play the massive R2
R2 will compeletely blow your mind by its scope,depth,amazing weapons and its awesome online multiplayer

Wow, thats incredible. Especially when you consider that MGS4 has sold 4.33 million to date. I guess a holiday release makes a huge difference.

The one thing that I can say about this is at least Gears deserves the honor of having these kinds of sales whereas Halo 3 was a joke with a capitol "J".

If you don't like the gameplay, then leave it at that. Making the comments about the "power" of each system is fanboyism. Period.

Each system has its own strengths and weaknesses. All of which have been discussed at length on this site. One game does not prove the superiority of a system.

Plus, whether you like it or not, an overwhelming majority of reviews and, I am willing to bet consumers, will like it.

I suppose your the vocal minority that doesn't like the game eh? Also, good to see that you tried out horde mode and have a gamertag for all to see. I am not dissing Resistance 2, however it is faulty thinking to compare a first person shooter to a third and play both back to back and intermittently. You make it a priority to point out GeOW2's faults yet are extremely quiet about what faults R2 possesses. I would like to ask you about the frustrating Leviathon boss and the invisible enemies...oh, and all the enemies that have their gun sights only on you (the "truth" I might add). I am not ripping on R2 but every game has its quirks. Talk about both if you do a comparison. You talk about frame rate drops but you are very vague about when they occur and lie about their persistance throughout the game. There is only one part in the whole game that has a consistent loss in frames. You could probably tell me what part that was right? On rails boss fights...hmmm, considering that most of the fights on hard core and insane are boss fights in and of themselves you are wrong. The "on rails" boss fights you speak of are epic. If you don't like them, you probably died 2 dozen times before you were able to clear them. They add to the experience and are difficult; obviously frustrating to the "casual" FPS fan. You don't even have to say anymore about the graphics and level of detail. Your wrong again. If you claim there is no detail in GeOW2 you haven't played the game (which I already concluded you haven't). I forgot hospitals have a lot going on in them...by bad. My sarcasm couldn't be more evident; also, its the first combat experience you have in the game. Try playing through the game after the first hour and find your "lack of detail." You argue that Gears isn't epic? I didn't feel that way. Perhaps because my actions as the player have such significance. I would rather have 10 enemies at once whom are intelligent than 20 who are not. Enemies don't magically appear btw, they come in waves. Your opinion is your own, however I had to call out someone dissing on Gears 2 that: played a friends copy for an hour, on casual difficulty and on a 13" TV at that. I wasted enough time already. Don't think little Jake's got it right for a minute.

Edit: In case anyone wasn't aware. The individual I called out triple posted the same comment in 3 different news stories. Reported as SPAM.

I went to Best Buy to pick up a copy of Gears of War 2 and this is what I saw:

No copies of Gears of War 2 left.
All 60GB Xbox 360 consoles were gone.
Most of the Elite Xbox 360 consoles were gone.
Some of the Arcade Xbox 360 were gone.
Most of Fable II was gone.

One of the clerks told me that their getting a shipment of 360s and Gears of War 2 ASAP, he said that he didn't expect it to destroy Best Buy's inventory. This was so shocking for me.

I still need a copy of Gears 2... :(

Really Ape? I have to disagree. I think the first party studios are the developers that should define a system. I think third party teams like Epic, Capcom, Namco, etc should put all of their titles on all systems. I mean, the two systems are on par, and since the industry insists on keeping the same development schedules from last gen, coupled with higher costs... well, they need to branch out to survive. HD games just cost a ton of money.

I'd rather have Midway and Capcom still around and have RE5 or MGS5 or Okami 2 on all systems, as opposed to having them gone just because they stuck with one system. Let Sony, MS, and Nitnendo's internal studios define their system. Let the other companies do what they need to do to be successful.

Just my two cents.

I didn't say started. I said really started to grow. GTA and FF is debatable, but lets all be honest that FF7 was probably the true start of the JRPG rise in the USA, and GTAIII was one of the first "sandbox" console games. Metal Gear SOLID started on the PS, and even Kojima has said, is synonymous with the PS brand. Tekken is the same.

Again, these are franchises that you think "Sony" when they are mentioned I feel. Just like you think Xbox when you hear Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden, or Gears. We associate certain games with certain consoles in this day and age. If we didn't well... we would not have MS touting the "stealing of PS exclusives" so much, would they?

Halo needs to make a game that is better than its predecessor. Halo, IMO, needs a shot in the arm. The series seems to be stagnant against the face of these newer IPs. GeOW2 is shaping up to be the new game to beat for the X360. Whether or not it deserves the praise it gets, GeOW2 has the freshness that Halo once had. I dunno. Halo just seems so tame compared to newer IPs, not just GeOW2. Argue if you want, but thats just my opinion.

I dont care what you fanboys say there are hundreds of games better than Gears 2 and halo 3 that didnt sale a fraction of what they did. Eg, All Zelda games, all MGS games, God of War, Final fantasy etc etc

And lets not forget LBP. It probably wont sell half as much as Halo or Gears, but its an overall better game. Even the critics say so.

But at the end of the day, its all about what games you prefer and theres obviously a huge market for FPS at the moment, and everyone knows they are gunna sell millions, but there are hidden gems in todays gaming world such as LBP, Zelda, Okami, Braid, PixelJunk etc etc that dont sale anywhere near the numbers halo and gears do.

Funny part is heyheyhey, I like Gears. A lot. I'm impressed that a new IP can do so well. It's a testament to gamers and the fact they WILL buy a new series if its good, isntead of just sequel after sequel (Square Enix!).

But man, if you don't praise the ground Halo or Gears walks on, you're a PS3 fanboy! I wish people would allow constructive criticism. Here's one... Gears has crappy, generic and cliche characters. The first one was tongue in cheek about it, and I respected that, because it was an action game. But goddamn, the wife subplot in Gears 2? Just leave crap like that out. It makes things oh so worse, and a joke. Focus on what you do good Epic, and dialogue ain't one of them.

Noctis, you need to understand that not every gamer has the same taste in games. I like MGS4, the storyline is pretty good (at least for a game) and the production values are excellent, but, in terms of gameplay i would choose gears everytime. Its just more fun IN MY OPINION! Not yours, not a fanboys, not metacritics, MINE! Say what you like, in terms of gameplay i prefer Gears to metal gear solid 4, as overall packages its pretty much equal for me.
