Modded Controllers Strike Again

Shortly after Call of Duty 4 was released, a certain number of players realized that certain modifications to an Xbox 360 controller would allow the rate of fire from single-shot weapons such as the M14 to be dramatically increased. From buying online, in-store, or with some clever DIY, players everywhere realized the gameplay benefit of modding their controllers. As the Call of Duty 5 beta emerged, these 'Turbo' or 'modded' controllers became increasingly more popular.

People who use these (especially when they pay $120!) are losers of the highest order.

Indeed they are. All the people I've ever seen using these on CoD4 got crappy scores anyway, so I enjoy mocking them. Firing really fast doesn't do crap for you if you can't aim in the first place. I'm sure if any good players decide to use these, it could ruin a game on Gears.

The really sad part is that if they didn't worry so much about losing, they probably would become better, and god forbid, even enjoy the game.

People really need to get over the whole "being a loser" thing, it really benefits no one.

2 - Isnt this a form of cheating?
Seriously can the xbox community not glitch out at least one game? This is just getting ridiculous.

Unfortunately I have to disagree. Modded Controllers are fair game. Just like one team having better headsets than the other team. In the end, it's what your skills bring to the table and how you use them that determines the win. It's not like in reality where you call foul play when the other team decides to use nukes right? It's the old saying "all's fair in love and war"

I don't condone using modded controllers, but I don't oppose them either. If someone pulls a modded controller on me, I'll stay one step ahead of them. In CoD4, if someone runs around with an automatic pistol/M14, I'll blow their ass before they get within firing range. If they have an automatic sniper, I'll sneak up behind with a fist-full of shotgun. It's not about what you're given, it's about how you use what you're have to win against the competition. In a sense, it's more rewarding to beat someone with a modded controller than someone else who doesn't.

That being said, there are limits to these sorts of things. While I don't really oppose modded controllers, I do oppose hacking in the sense of glitching, invincibility, and stand-by modems. Especially purposing gaining host advantage. Remember Halo 2 anyone? That's how I draw my line.

Using a controller like that is like using a modern recurve bow with stabilizers, optic sights, triggers and whatnot in a medieval bow contest. You might still lose, but you sure have an uneven advantage.

And I'm pretty sure the single-shot weapons were designed to be *drum roll* single-shot, not full-automatic, so this is in effect a glitch.

Well it's not a glitch, it's realism. In reality you can shoot a semi-automatic as fast as you want. Only downfall is recoil, which people will compensate for. What would've made this balanced out is the risk of gun-jamming because the rechamber process might **** up in between and you're punished for being too trigger happy. However I never knew CoD4 as a realism shooer, just an arcady one.

With respect to legit gamers, I do have my moments where I know that the guy killing me is only winning because of a modded controller. But I look at my little nephew that can tap the trigger just as fast without a modded controller and go toe-to-toe with a modded controller and I'm brought back to reality. But I respect anyone's opinion otherwise.

modded controllers enhance someones abilities that they dont have....hence why it is cheating.....especially when this rapid fire also reduces recoil etc because it is too fast to respond to.

2.5 - Thats what the xbox community does
Glitch, exploit and chase stupid gamer scores achievements.

It's not about the love of the game anymore, just an obsession over a dumb number next to your name or a leader board that only 4 other kids even care about.

5 - I've yet to meet someone with these who actually doesn't suck.
I play COD4 and things like this, along with the new Turtle Beach trend is annoying me big time. I don't mean to brag but I'm a pretty good player, and I'm getting sick of people saying I have a modded controller just because I can press the RT fast, or that I'm using Turtle Beach headphones because I'm not deaf enough to ignore his blatant footsteps trying to flank me.

Here's a tip to those who buy these accessories. If you want to play games where it's less about skill and more about how much you're willing to spend for victory, why not get into PC gaming where you can throw your money away on an insane rig with a keyboard and mouse that costs stupid amounts of cash? I like to play certain games on consoles because I can rest easy knowing everyone is using the same console which has the same specs and the same controllers, the only edge you will have over your opponent is internet connection and skill.

By the way I'm not trying to diss PC gaming, just in case my words seemed a little harsh. I'm simply stating that unlike console gaming, it's rare to join a server where everyone is using the same mouse, keyboard and speakers as you are.

The point of having a overpowered riffle in single fire is that you can stead your aim to make a second shot if needed. Even if you can repeat shots that quick (be it turbo controller or just playing like that), you will miss a lot, don't have half the fire rate required to effective close range combat, and not move around rightly.

In other words, you could just take other weapons to play like that. SMG for close combat thay needs lots of shots, LMG if you want to supress and randomly hit faraway enemies or just a good auto rifle (I say G36C, most of my frieds prefer M4, but I prefer sniping anyway) to engage on enemies moving on to them.

With that said, COD4 isn't anywhere near a strategic shooter. You can pretty much move as you want with any weapon and, if you have some basic FPS skills, you'll make it.
