EA's Riccitiello Comments on Publishing Brutal Legend

Kombo writes "Recently, Activision merged with Sierra. In the process of this merger, several games where put out to pasture, as a cost cutting measure. Brütal Legend was among one of the more prominent titles released. Since the game is being helmed by Tim Schafer of Grim Fandango and Psychonauts fame, it was a forgone conclusion that they would find another publisher.

One of the primary rumors centered around the game finding a snug new home at Electronic Arts. Gamasutra had the chance to sit down with EA's CEO John Riccitiello and discuss this very topic..."

I like the path EA is following since Riccitiello came back. Not perfect yet but... Improvements of key titles (Fifa...), exciting new IP's from internal - and more independant than recent years - studios (Dead space, Mirror's edge...), great partnerships (Harmonix, Crytek, Valve, Grasshopper and now maybe double fine), new economic model... Where is the good old EA we loved to hate ?

2 - This could be exciting news.
EA has definitely shown some balls lately what with all the new IPs they're backing. I think it's unfortunate to categorize Brutal Legend as a creative risk s it is in a very popular genre. A little blood never hurts a game's consumer appeal either.

I for one am excited as hell for this game, and I've never really been a die-hard Schafer fan. Mostly that's because the puzzle-adventure genre isn't really that stimulating to me. But a bloody action-adventure game based on the rock and roll culture? How f***ing cool is that!?

In the words of Nathan Explosion... "Metal."
