TGS 08: Peter Molyneaux thinks you should skip Fable 1, go right to sequel

Destructoid's Nick Chester reports:

"Peter Molyneaux is proud of what he and Lionhead have done with Fable II, slated to hit the Xbox 360 on October 21.

"I look at Fable II, and I think it's one of the best games I've ever done," he tells me during a private demo of the title at Tokyo Game Show today.

When he asks me if I had played the original, I admit that I never finished the original. It sits in my pile of shame, I tell him, and I promise that I'm going to do my best to sit down and play it through before the sequel is released.

"No you won't," he says firmly. "Don't.""

1 - He is right
Fable1 = Biggest lie and most overhyped game ever in this industry.

It is up there. I did not enjoy it at all. Too short, boring, and easy.

1.2 - I'm not talking only
about what the game turned out to be , but specially about all the lies and unfulfilled promises he made while the game was in development.

TBH, I really enjoyed Fable: Lost Chapters more than most RPGs like the Final Fantasy games. Don't kill me now, but I found Fable to be more deep with the moral choices and the customization of your character. Final Fantasy? Not too much. I liked FF7 with the exception of the running around in the train yard. Took me almost an hour and a half to figure a way out of the 2D environment.

2 - How do we know...
that he will not be saying the same thing about Fable II as he is about Fable I a couple of years from now? Then how do you trust a developer who admits that he releases products that he knows is a "fractured experience"?

Exactly. Maybe he thought that when it was released but didn't want to kill sales.

Just from all the interviews and how he talks about Fable II, I suspect he is pretty happy with this one though.

Sometimes Peter is a little too honest for his own good. I actually picked up Fable for like $12.00 used just to check it out. No big loss if it isn't that good, but I imagine I'll enjoy it. I'll play through it before tackling Fable 2.

I recommend jumping on it, soon. You'll absolutely love it. Play through it twice with both moralities to get the full experience.

Can the game media stop taking every sentence he says into news?!
The game will be fun, but holy crap, if he sneezes at a Sony booth will that be news to!?

Pretty much, the guy is a pretty legendary developer. His stuff was pretty innovative with minor flaws in almost all his games, probably from all the hype he made but now he seems a lot more humble.

everyone who says fable was a bad game, never played it. Sure it was over-hyped and didn't deliver as an epic experience. But darn it that game was very fun. Still a very good game.

I played Lost Chapters on my PC. I'm actually glad I did, since it was one of the best rpgs I've ever played. I didn't get far in the game though. I was just so lost in it that all I ever did when I loaded it up was just go terrorize some villagers:) It's an incredibly deep game, with lots of replay value and some really great graphics. And the sound was truly defining for its time.

9 - I enjoyed fable 1....
It was flawed but had it moments...like halo 3 in IMO...every game has them but it takes a special game to earn critical praise and with Molyneaux opening his mouth and overhyping fable 1 was the reason most people dislike his games..no one cant say he isnt passionate about his
products though and I am happy with the visual upgrades and eagerly await this game.
