Ubisoft: Far Cry 2 'more fun' than Call of Duty 4

VideoGamer.com writes: "Ubisoft has bullishly claimed that upcoming open world safari FPS Far Cry 2 is "more fun" than Infinity Ward's phenomenally successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare."

"I think it's more fun for everybody," said Far Cry 2 multiplayer producer Richard Gaetan. "In Call of Duty 4, the good guys are always the same, they always play the same way. In Far Cry 2 you cannot do that. You have to adapt, you have to change your strategy. And with the map editor you won't be able to learn your maps, because you have so many and if you want to play with your friends and with different people then you have to switch - it will be a bit of a surprise all of the time. So I think it's more fun."

If they do allow it, it will probably be like the supposed MOD support of the 360 version of UT III. MS will take the "best" maps and make those available.

Going by MS' own statements on user generated content though, map sharing over LIVE, especially free map sharing, probably won't happen.

I don't see why not, there's a level editor there and Halo 3 did it so why not? Why gimp your version when the competition's version is miles better with user-created content?

1.3 - Yes, you will be able to share your maps for free
These maps are being made using the in game map maker on 360, so of course you will be able to share them with people, just like in Halo 3.

I remember that. If you played your buddies map, you had to DL it to your hard drive. Then you could play it. But I doubt there will be like a "top ten maps" choice out there for the 360 at least.

The only thing I'm worried about is being able to see the enemy. From the videos I've seen it seems like people pop out of nowhere. Hopefully that changes when I play for myself.

And they're right about COD4. You always know where the snipers are camping out, and I do often find myself doing the same things depending on the map. I think that made me lose interest after a while (although I'm starting to play COD4 again, which is a testament to its awesomeness). If you really can change the environment like they say, it could be a really great game. I'm interested to see if the console versions get a map editor, and how its implemented. I think there was a PS3 trophy for playing custom maps, so I guess there will at least be maps for download.

On a side note, I'm really disappointed FarCry2 doesn't have co-op. It seems like the perfect game for it. I'm really hoping they add that on (even though there is almost no chance of that happening, ever). I'd even consider paying for co-op mode as DLC if the game is as good as it looks.

9 - Lets see
COD: Linear scripted single player campaign, and Campfest multi-player.

Far Cry 2: Open world with adaptive AI, and Map editor with milti-player.

COD was way over hyped and I got bored after about 2 hours of playing. The GFX in COD are ace but that was about it.

9.1 - Yeah, I agree with you on the single-player campain...
Call of Duty 4's campaign was very scripted. Which is strange because very little reviews mention how obvious the scripting is. It doesn't detract from the 'fun' of the campaign, but it is noticeable and at times annoying.

For example, there was a point in the game when I was in a fire-fight with what seemed to be an endless stream of enemies coming out of a small wooden building and suddenly I moved up a bit and then they stopped flooding out. Apparently I crossed some invisible line that triggered a sudden holt in the enemy spawning.

To test my theory I replayed the same portion and moved closer to the building with more urgency and the fire-fight was MUCH shorter. There are other instances like that, but over all the gameplay was OK. I think it was a combination of intense fire-fights and engaging story and presentation that made the single-player campain enjoyable.

Also, there has been alot of talk about enemy AI being incompetent on games like Killzone 2 and I must say Call of Duty 4's AI seems worse compared to the in-game demo footage of KZ2. In COD4 most of the enemies just run at you with reckless abandon, only the shear number of them really makes the game challenging, not to mention the effectiveness of the gun damage.

Call of Duty 4's saving grace is the multiplayer. It takes the multi-player formula of the first Call of Duty and improved upon it.

yes cod 4 was scripted and linear,no one can can deny that, but you know that's what amazing about it

amazing level design, pacing, veraity, intensit y,unbelievable well done set pieces complete with an incredible heart pounding soundtrack that makes you FEEL like you are doing a mission yourself, you feel the danger, the heat, have played ALL GHUIILED UP or ONE SHOT ONE KILL,those are two of the best levels I've ever played,ABSOLUTELY SPINE CHILLING EXPERIENCE

cod 4 has AAA quality campaign and awesome mp

comparing it to far cry is just wrong, cause fc is an open game

fc2 looks awesome btw

10 - I'll believe it when I play it.
This game could dethrone COD4 on my 'must play on-line" list, but right now COD4 is the only one on that list, haha. I heard the single-player campain kicks butt and I enjoyed the Xbox's 'FC: Insticts' and the original PC 'Far Cry' game.
