Silicon Knights Less Human, 26 Staff Cut

Recently, news that a development studio has laid off workers ends with said developer ending up looking for a new sugar daddy, but spokeswoman Susan Lusty Of Silicon Knights assures us that their culling season is only due to the traditional cycle all developers go through after the launch of a title.

Umm....you never really hear about those kind of lay-offs after you launch a title...

at least successful ones....

Are you kidding..?

They hire extra people according to their workload.

In this case, workload-of-crap.

So i guess this puts a little bump down the road regarding turning this into a trilogy.

Admit it, Too Human was a disaster a decade in the making, and Dennis, you should be with those 26 people.

It happens all the time. You hire on a lot of extra QA people and debuggers when you're in the final push. It's not surprising at all. They did have around ~200 employees, and they're only in early dev of their next game; there's no reason to have a full final QA team working on a probably barely working build.

2 - Poor Silicon Knights
That sucks... I mean its not Lucas Art bad with 75 people cut, but still 26 people out of jobs... I mean they were good dev when they made the metal gear remake imo.

That game is called "fracture" good sir.

Sorta reminds me of when the first Red Faction came out...
Cool concept, horrible under executed in actual gameplay.

Timeshift was somewhat cool with it being manipulating time and all, but man the story sucked and wasn't worth a replay.

Combine the ability to control time, control the ground, and jump buildinging like mirror's edge and we have a recipe for a big
geek-gasm.

Add online and you have a geek-orgy.

3.1 - Too Human takes 6 hours to complete
2 hours if you remove the need to upgrade your armor every 3 seconds.
So, you played it 10 times? What a nut!

i don't even understand why this is news

every development house does this when they finish a project, why pay people when there isn't work to be done?

it is how the games industry works and a lot of other design industries

Actually this is a common practice for game companies. I'm a graphic artist/animator and I refuse to work for a game company because they work you like slaves then get rid of you when the project is finished. Not all companies practice this but a vast majority do. Getting a job on the cinematic team is the prime job with a low turnover.
