"their culling season is only due to the traditional cycle all developers go through after the launch of a title"
Umm....you never really hear about those kind of lay-offs after you launch a title...
at least successful ones....

In this case, workload-of-crap.

So i guess this puts a little bump down the road regarding turning this into a trilogy.
Admit it, Too Human was a disaster a decade in the making, and Dennis, you should be with those 26 people.

It happens all the time. You hire on a lot of extra QA people and debuggers when you're in the final push. It's not surprising at all. They did have around ~200 employees, and they're only in early dev of their next game; there's no reason to have a full final QA team working on a probably barely working build.

That game is called "fracture" good sir.
Sorta reminds me of when the first Red Faction came out...
Cool concept, horrible under executed in actual gameplay.
Timeshift was somewhat cool with it being manipulating time and all, but man the story sucked and wasn't worth a replay.
Combine the ability to control time, control the ground, and jump buildinging like mirror's edge and we have a recipe for a big
geek-gasm.
Add online and you have a geek-orgy.

2 hours if you remove the need to upgrade your armor every 3 seconds.

i don't even understand why this is news
every development house does this when they finish a project, why pay people when there isn't work to be done?
it is how the games industry works and a lot of other design industries

Actually this is a common practice for game companies. I'm a graphic artist/animator and I refuse to work for a game company because they work you like slaves then get rid of you when the project is finished. Not all companies practice this but a vast majority do. Getting a job on the cinematic team is the prime job with a low turnover.

I bet Dyack still sits his fat rotund ass in a nice office tucked away in some hallway within, though. I woonder if these people were laid off, or if they are upgrading their work clothes with useless armor and trinkets no one will ever use?
I bet the lunch room around Silicon Knights was hell when someone dropped a little change by the vending machines.

not really spin, no matter how well the game would ahve done if it were better the same thing happens
unless they have something big and immediate to work on (silicon knights is too small) then every development house does this
they aren't going to keep people such as testers and people who work on the tails of a project around eating up money when they have no work for them
i dont know the usual numbers or how big a staff SK has kept in the past but i'm willing to bet it has been proportionate throughout

True that. Unfortantely most of those layoffs aren't because companies need too...
but because they are preparing...
Stupid economics of CEO's is what got the whole problem started. Now instead of cutting back bonuses, they are cutting from the bottom end instead of the top.
Every CEO needs his owns personal helicopter right?

Sorry, misdirection won't work here. When successful game houses add personnel in the wake of a great game, trying to spin this doesn't detract from the truth. Denis Dyack is the biggest piece of poop since a blue whale took a dump, SK sucks, their game sucked, and MS has no use for them or parts 2 and 3 of a really bad game.
