Funcom: Age of Conan server merge was requested from the Playerbase

Strategy Informer recently had the chance to ask Jorgen Tharaldsen, Product Director for Funcom, a few questions relating to the recently released MMO Age of Conan, which has been released on the PC, but is also expected for the Xbox 360.

We asked Jorgen about the recent server merges that had taken place, to see if he could enlighten some of the concerns that sparked from this announcement, because some people thought that this could be the beginning of the end for the MMO. Jorgen said that he was confident that people playing Age of Conan are happy about the news, and that it was requested from the playerbase.

1 - The beginning of the end.......
Sure the playerbase is going to request server merges....BECAUSE THE POPULATIONS SUCK! Server pops in decline = server merges = death of the MMO. Plain and simple. I suffered through 76 levels on my barb to realize this is a garbage product. And just so you know, FUNCOM mods would have banned my account and deleted my post for saying that on their boards. What does that tell you?

It tells us you fail at giving constructive reasons?

Populations are great on many servers. Some are less than great which is why the playerbase asks for merges or character transfers. What is so wrong with wanting fellows gamers paying to play who enjoy the game to want to continue to do so on more populated servers?

A lot of servers have seen in increase in the population due to the last PvP patch.

I don't think it is the end. If the players left all together that would be one thing, but simply asking for a solution to population concerns seems reasonable.
