10 Reasons Why the Xbox 360 Will Own the Holiday Season

This is part one of a three part feature. The PS3 and Wii will be covered in the next two editions.

"These past couple of years have brought use some of the most memorable titles in the history of gaming. Bioshock, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 4 to name a few, and with other awesome features such as achievements, online-gaming, and downloadable content, there has been no better time to be a gamer then right now. What still amazes me, however, is the quality of these games: Games that will immerse us into epic storylines. Games that will push our hardware to the limit, and games that will try new things to help keep gaming fresh. With so many good games to choose from, it's hard to comprehend why everyone on earth doesn't game. What I do understand though, is that the golden age hasn't stopped, and there is no end in sight. This holiday will be one of the greatest ever for us gamers (especially 360 ones), and we here at TGR are going to give you some insight on what 360 gamers can expect throughout the rest of this year."

Only a contradiction if you buy into the silly fanboy war.

If you just care about good games, all the consoles will own the holiday season compared to what they've offered so far this year.

Both the PS3 and the XBOX 360 have good reasons as to why one or the other might win the holiday season. We'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

This is the time when the Xbox 360 has the chance to gain some ground on the PS3. It should be exciting to say the least.

Unless Sony drops the price of the PS3 again, the 360 is almost assured sales victories worldwide for the holiday season. I think the most exciting part is gonna be how console exclusives sway consumers this season.

I think with the titles that are coming out, there will a large holiday season across the board. New games, expansions to existing ones.....should be good stuff.

I doubt it, and I doubt the 360 will own either.

Wii will own, or DS.

One of the two.

Nice spin job Pirate Thom. We all know the Wii will probably outsell the 360 and PS3 combined worldwide. It's been that way for 2 years running. But what we don;t know is if the 360 or PS3 will come out on top this holiday season in regards to second place.

I already own all 3 consoles so whoever does come out on top doesn't really affect me. I just find it amusing that when worldwide sales figures favor the PS3 over the 360, all the PS3 owners start championing the Wii.

But if the PS3 has the sales lead over the 360, it's the 360 is dead, or the 360 has no good games, etc

Try keeping it real. I would much rather see you post your usual pro PS3 anti 360 crap.

Be a gamer not a hater.

5 - Its a brilliant time to own a 360
What with an unmatched online service - thats just about to become better.

A range of AAA games out and more being released soon that are second to none.

A price that has finally hit the mass market/average joe in affordability.

All the 360 has to do to turn it from a being a brilliant buy to a perfect buy is make the hardware reliable and have free 'gold' online.

Then again - nothings perfect.........

Personally, I think the real golden age has come and gone (I'm talking late 80s, early 90s =P) but there have been a lot of good releases lately. I can't say I'm looking forward to 'too many' games on the 360, only really Gears 2 and Fable 2. Mirror's Edge, but I'm getting that on PC.

well ... the 360 may have a $199.99 price point but the PS3 comes equipped with a BRay player @ $399.99. Hardware sales for the PS3 will be driven by potential BRay buyers as well as the core gaming audience that want a piece of LittleBigPlanet. Wii sales will be driven by every demographic. The 360 sales will be driven by one thing alone ... price cut.

I'll agree with you on this. There are many people who still don't seem to understand that price plays a huge part in the decision to purchase a console. Price was the determining factor when I ponied up the bucks for my 360...I loved my PSone and my PS2, but I could not justify the price of the PS3 to my self...

I agree that price cut is a huge determining factor. The problem is with the arcade unit. Yes, the unit will sell @199.99 but how much value are you getting. Once the population realizes that you aren't getting much value out of the Arcade unit, it will be back to the Pro and Elite models. The Pro model is your best bet with it being 60GB now.

8.5 - If Sony doesn't lower the price of the PS3
It's over, it's just like that.

Blu ray? hardrive? Please... if any of that mattered, 3rd party developers wouldn't be creating the same exact thing on both consoles

Haven't people realized that yet?

Sony's first party studios are no match for the entire gaming industy who will continue to make multi platform games.

And PS3 just continues shooting themselves in the foot with their price.

do you realize that this is a game console, and the ps3s only good game is ....ummm... ehhhh :o ??? i dunno. mgs4??? but it isnt a mainstream game. MGO sucks so so its basically a SP only game. a 400$ game console with no substance other than to watch movies isnt gonna sell other than to ps fanboys.

Because by the same logic that means that the 360 will OWN the wii this xmas. And trust me that is NOT gonna happen. This year its all about the games. Regardless of the wii, because that will PWN no matter what.
But between the xbox and ps3.. Which ever has that MUST own game. Little Big Planet? Gears 2? hmmm interesting to find out. But this economy better start improving or EVERYONE will lose! :-(

It's really amazes me how much momentum Microsoft has built from E3. Prior to that, things looked very blank on paper, but with the recent pricedrop in action and introduction of more diverse titles, I must say that I'm impressed.

It's all nice but I wanted a new shooter to go along with Gears 2. Halo 4 or something else would have been cool. I buy all multiplats for my PS3( trophies). PS3 is getting more playtime this fall after I complete Gears.

12 - I can give you 2 huge reasons why it wont.
Wii and Little Big Planet. Price drop is only reason 360 will even be in the game. MGS4 proved that expensive consoles sell with great games (and little big planet is outstanding), and Wii still outselling 360 even though its less expensive shows that people may be to smart to fall into the 360 arcade crap trap. I say 360 and PS3 perform similar, 360 probably a little more, while the wii destroys them both.

Does anyone have a link to state that the exclusive DLC for GTAIV is coming for the holiday the last article I read from R* said it not coming in 2008 (unless I missed something). If it is true that there finally going to see the DLC at Christmas I must have missed this announcement

eeer, let me see, fable 2, fallout 3, gears of war 2 (just a pc game? what kind of arguement is that???) far cry 2, left 4 dead, red alert 3, banjo kazooie, dead space, guitar hero world tour, saints row 2, endwar, mirrors edge, cod5, tomb raider underworld, prince of persia

not to mention the fantastic back catalogue you have to look forward to if you dont already have a 360.

i'd say it'd be pretty sweet to find an xbox 360 under the tree (same as it would be pretty sweet to find a ps3 too)

its a good time to be a gamer

17 - Sony got a little too greedy.....
I own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360 but I think Sony got a little too greedy and selfish by trying to promote their blu-ray technology. I've no doubt that Microsoft will kill Sony in holiday sales. I further believe that they'll give the *Wii a good run for the money and might even out sale Nintendo. I think that Nintendo has stopped being relevant as a gaming company, and that eventually even the *casual gamer will latch onto this fact. It's not just about price, but also the quality of the games themselves. I like my PS3 a lot but Sony insisted on selling the public a movie player, which isn't the reason I buy gaming systems. Couple that with the fact that the blu-ray discs themselves don't display the quantum leap in quality on the PS3 to justify the steep price tag of blu-ray discs. I just bought Ironman on blu-ray and it doesn't look that much better than a standard dvd. I won't spend another penny of my money on original over-priced blu-ray discs..........

18 - im going to be 100% realistic here
no fanboy comments.

i think the wii MIGHT be top this holiday because its the wii. BUT not as much as last year or the year b4. i think the wii will hit a low this holiday.

the xbox in close 2nd (maybe first but i think it will be close and i mean REALLY close) because its cheaper, its the xbox, its advertised like crazy, and because stupid parents will buy it for there kids. (and by stupid i mean the parents of spoiled brats who get everything and anything they want by whining about it till there heads pop)

the ps3 in last place with a little impovement in sales. no advertisment at all, hardly any average joe gamer knows about ps3s upcoming games let alone LBP (half my friends list (20ppl) still havent herd of LBP but these are the people who are hardly online in the first place), its expensive, and blu-ray hasn't become mainstream yet like the dvd.

this could change tho, if sony steps up and starts advertising LBP and there console like crazy on prime time TV.
as of right now tho im pretty sure thats how it will all play out if things keep going the way they are.

but next year xbox will be on its last legs unless they come up with better games that can top sonys 1st party games.
MS needs a GT5 killer, a GOW killer, and w/e other games sell big to everyone (not just the gamers but EVERYONE)
