i agree with some the stuff what you said. IMO if anything stands a chance would be FC2 and LBP. Ive Heard FC2 is really good and looks amazing as well, and LBP look like a lot of fun and to me i think LBP is a make it or break it game, either will soar or will flop terribly. (i think it will soar) Heavy Rain, i think it will not totally flop but be meh. Look freaking awesome but i heard its a button pushing game where X will apear hit X then O then X again ugh boring.

Honestly, i do not see any game coming that is a potential HALO killer. Halo just has a lot of energy backing it up and the energy is getting added on everyday.

I agree with you. Many devs don't want their games to be compared to other games. But other devs do that on purporse *cough* Sainstrow 2 *cough*, How they say "Do you want to go bowling or blah, blah blah." And the videos don't look good at all for that game.

Also LBP will get really good reviews, I just got the BETA and it's so addicting.

What the hell is a Killzone killer? That series isn't even alive for it to be killed ... Halo already got killed by Call of Duty 4 if you count multiplatforms or Gears took it's place. GTA IV was lame and the closest thing to it is Saint's Row 2 but I dount it'll kill GTA IV.

its going to be hard for an exclusive game to beat halo in sales because the original xbox fanbase was basically based around the halo franchise ya know. that was their flagship title, and when everyone wants halo and nothing but halo they are going to go crazy for it especially when its marketed like crazy and gets 10's around the board as reviews (alot were paid for, just like gta4). xbox had more focus on the halo franchise because their fan bases wasn't that big and the majority wants to play halo, but if you look at the ps2... it has a much bigger fan base and a wider variety of games so the fan base is chopped up into all different types of fans of different games you see whereas xbox had mostly only halo and thats what most people wanted that bought an xbox 360 and thats why it sold the way it did.

its like forza coming out and trying to be a Gran turismo killer, its just not going to happen, you see how it works now?

im not saying games that dont sell as much aren't better... i like resistance better than halo, iight.

same with gta... ill bet all my money saintsrow2 aint gunna beat gta4 in sales but that dont make gta4 the better game (yet) even though i think saintsrow2 looks like garbage in gameplay and graphics so far. well just have to see about the story.

and as for a killzone killer? maybe in sales (thats not to hard) but in graphics, dynamics and gameplay? i doubt it.... and im only being real with yall.

I doubt FarCry 2 will be a Halo or Killzone killer, but it will be an awesome game that I will be buying first day. LBP in my opinion will be a pop culture phenomenon just like the Wii. LBP will take the PS3 to new heights.

I wasn't going to even bother with LBP, but after seeing some of the cool things that people have been creating on there, I will probably pick it up and create some things of my own. Also, stay tuned as I will make some kick Ass maps for FarCry 2.

I have high hopes for FC2 and it should be huge. The multiplayer and map editor will undoubtedly push major sales. My concern is that its coming out in the midst of titles we know will he HUGE! I wish it would have been released during the summer or pushed til next quarter (same goes for Legendary - it has no chance now). I have followed Borderlands for awhile and hope it turns out amazing but I have my doubts based on some videos that I've seen. LBP should be huge as well but I am still unsure if it is something I am interested in beyond a few hours of play. I could be way off on that assumption tho. My kids however will force my hand into purchasing it anyway. Regardless I will likely purchase all five possible "killers."

They only track the IP address. Meaning they don't count the guests played in Halo 3. I know my cousin has one 360 and he always plays with both his brothers on Live. That's 3 players but only counted as one. At this very moment their are 170k players playing Halo 3 online. While COD4 only has 50k. COD4 might have more individual IP address playing on Live but it never beats Halo 3 in players.

It still must have some quality to it to still be selling. While I personally feel 3 was a letdown and the campaigns have steadily gotten worse, squandering a great storyline and missing opportunities, the multiplayer aspect has kept people coming back for more. In that respect, Bungie has been successful. I just wish people would realize Halo is as flawed as any other title, and stop taking it as a personal insult when a) someone doesn't like it b) someone points out the flaws.

Halo IS a great example though of what good marketing can do for a very good game. Is it the epitome of the console shooter? I don't believe so. I think it did alot to help console FPS, but I think Goldeneye 007 was the true genesis of this genre becoming successful on console personally.

But why is it held up as "the one to beat?" Because MS won't let anyone forget how much it sells, simple as that.

EDIT - FirstKnight just proved my point to a T, he went right for sales. *sigh* Anyone remember when it was all about the fun, and not statistic and textures (which is funny, considering 90% of people that toss about graphical comparisons have NO clue how to properly discuss them). Oh well.

Sure, as I said, it must be doing something right. Doesn't mean its flawless though. Or the epitome of the genre. Or the second coming of christ as people toss it about. Everything is flawed in some way. To ignore those flaws is to screw ourselves and allow devs to push out subpar crap that is just rehashed from the prequels. Also, if we go simply by sales to define quality, instead of our own opinions, well then we are just shafting ourselves. Titanic is the greatest movie ever, fact, right?

I never said the ONLY reason was because of commercials. But I do think advertising has had a big influence on how well it has done, especially in establishing the brand. I feel the game itself has great multiplayer and a lacking campaign in 3. Its obviously the multiplayer that is bringing people back, and I commend Bungie for that. I'd just love to see them take a chance and really go all out for the single player as well.

In some cases, I'd agree with you Ons, but I gotta go with First (can't believe it) on this one. Look at the success of Halo and Halo 2, do you really think advertising was that big of a part of Halo 3's sales? It's an established franchise now. Like Tekken, that series sells like hotcakes with minimal ads. Established franchises don't really need the ads...well, except maybe to let the general public know when it's being released.

The whole Halo marketing argument is weak. So would you say the same thing about movies??? Do you think people watched Spiderman 3 because of the Burger King toys or the Spiderman drinks? Or do you think people watched it because...I don't know.... maybe because they like Spiderman or maybe they like action movies? Was the Titanic the best movie ever??? Well if it made over a billion dollars worldwide than I guess some people liked it, right?

I don't recall the first Halo ever having a big marketing blitz and it still sold very well. Like my man above me said, Halo already has its proven fan base. Halo 3 would of been a huge success with zero commercials.

So you pick Spider-Man 3, the third movie in a hugely budgeted trilogy that did well on sales, but is widely regarded to be probably the worst of the series, as your example? Thanks for proving my point again actually. Quality and sales do not always go hand in hand, but marketing and name recognition do. Look at the commercials pushing Venom. People wanted to see Venom I'd wager. What did they get? 10 mins of screen time and a subpar resolution.

In my other case, I'm not talking about people liking Titanic. If it sold the most, by the "logic" I hear around here, then it is a FACT that it IS the greatest movie ever, without contention, simply due to sales. See how that train of thought is flimsy?

And as I said, my focus was on the series as a whole. Halo is a marketing beast, that is undeniable fact.

Actually, Ons, you're changing your argument. Read what First wrote, he never mentioned quality. I know he'd say it is, but he doesn't even say it's a well made game. He just says it's fun and it's the most played on Live. Other than that, he's only discussed sales figures. You brought quality into play. Which is a completely different argument as, to some extent, quality is all relative to the individual (I thought Ass. Creed was very well made for what I expected of it).

And no, sales =/= a great game or the best in a genre. It just means it appeals to a wider audience. That's it. Every person who bought the game could possibly like another FPS better. Much like I doubt every person who saw Titanic considers it their favorite movie. I'm kind of surprised, didn't you know Gone With The Wind destroys Titanic when the price of inflation is considered (at least in the states, forgot about worldwide numbers)? It made around 180 million in the 1930s, lol. =D
