Gears of War 2: They Want You Dead (Horde Gameplay)

GameXtract writes "Gears of War 2 has made an appearance at E for All, and it looks like they have decided to show off the four player horde gameplay. A round of never ending locust madness can make you really piss your pants even when you have four other badass buddies with you. Those baddies want you dead, and they will stop at nothing to get to you. One of the attendees at E for All captured some amateur footage of the horde gameplay, and I must say that this November I will be one busy gamer. Be sure to watch some juicy four player horde co-op after the jump!"

right now there is a video of it on 360's Inside Xbox feature. It talks about the mode at the game convention. it's looking pretty awesome and they talk about it in a little bit more detail for those that are actually interested in the game.

6.2 - Gears of War 2 == Game of the Year 2008.

Firstly, Gears of War (GoW) uses "horde" to describe the alien enemy. Not always in the dictionary sense;

Definition for horde
- large crowd; nomadic group: a group of nomads, especially of a people who live by hunting and foraging for food hunter-gatherers; swarm or pack.

So, what is the issue here? What it is flaming, the usual loud-mouthed nonsense -- "OHMG!!1! That's only 4 enemies! A horde* is at least 5!1! Like in %PS3_Exclusive%!1!"

*totally ignoring the game's use and the context of the usage of the word "horde".

It is just outright trolling. It belongs in the open zone.

Bottom Line? The game looks *TERRIFIC* and that video is just more evidence that Gears of War 2 is going to be terrific fun.

Yet, here are the usual trolls, here to invent, misdirect and complain about a game they will NEVER play.

As said above, this is Level 4 of 50. Perhaps they should **GET INFORMED** before spewing vitriol?

From the start, notice in the top left it says "Level 3".

Then about 30 seconds in, they complete the stage, and see a Statistics page. It says "LEVEL 3 COMPLETE".

Then, you see them playing "LEVEL 4".

This particular group doesnt make it past LEVEL 5.

There are ***50*** Levels.

both of these games are different...

Let's see:

3rd person vs 1st person

squad based gameplay vs one man army

close quarters fighting vs open area fights

why compare the two.

Massive NPC counts don't work with close quarter fighting, it would really be pointless and it would suck.

Gears horde mode has wave of enemies; different types with different levels of difficulty will come at you and try to kill you continuously. Sounds awesome in my mind. You and your buddies have to try and fight them off and survive.

Plus, Gears is a more intimate game, and that's because of the close quarter fighting and the limiting of other players. You don't need massive player counts to enjoy this type of game.

Gears and R2 are very different games, so stop comparing the two.

...after Gears, everyone copied that playing style, but kill.switch was the first game that used an extensive cover system and blind-firing. Gears basically copied the entire feel of kill.switch and added the Unreal Engine's shiny goodness.

Seriously I dont see much difference. You still walk around so as butt probably to keep frame rate up.. Very few weapons.. And a miserable community..

Im definitely holding off his year.. Ill wait to see if a Pc version comes out if not then ill get it when it drops in price just to play he single player but online will be a disaster knowing the 360 community.

Defnitely doesnt look as much as of an update as RFOM to RFOM 2 imo.

5.1 - I can agree that the upgrade from Gears 1 to Gears 2 isn't as great as Resistance 1 to Resistance 2...

...but to be honest, although I loved Resistance 1, Gears was the more solid game, being that Gears had an extra year headstart and not a launch title means an extra year on an already "friendly to develop for" console will make a game sing.

Resistance does look much, much better than the first one, but the first one was made with a PS2 engine, as said by Insominac themselves. This time around Resistance will be built on a PS3 engine with all spu's firing.

The way I see it, They are both tied for graphics and looks until the final comes out. Gameplay is a person's choice, so there's no need to talk about that.

The only thing that Gears ever gave me while playing it was a headache. One thing I did like about Gears 1 was the flying creatures that ate you if you stood in the darkness. Other then that the game was mediocre at best. COD4 puts Gears to shame.

How many of you still play the first one anyways? I sold my copy after I beat it 2 days later. The online was horrible too. Ugh,, I think Cliffy should find a different career, but then again,, you xbots love anything that is exclusive on your precious 360. Even if its total crap.

I love my ps3 as well, but Im really unbiased as a ps3 fanboy can be. Fable 2 is probably one of my most anticipated titles of all time, but Gears 2 is just crap of a game. I hate almost everything about it from throwing grenades, putting whole clips into somebody just to kill them, and the slow non-fluid gameplay animations. Just look at somebody who gets chain sawed,, both characters pause and the guy who gets chain sawed just stands there and waits to be massacred. Its like a school play that went wrong.

I honestly don't give a rats @ss if any of you agree with me, but I will say there are like 15 other games that are already out that I would rather play, let alone the other 20 games that have yet to come out that is just light years ahead of this game in almost every aspect. I think Quantum Solace is gonna be better then this game. I think Gears has alot of potential to be something other then what it is. I think a Gears of War movie would be nice, but this game is not even on my game Q at gamefly.

P.S. You guys wanna see a Horde Mode? Just look at some Resistance 2 videos. Theres like 20 to 30 guys on the screen at once runny right towards you. What you guys don't understand what you will be missing out this year if your only looking forward to this game. There's more enemies on the screen at once in LBP then in this game.

I have seen resistance 2, and i think it looks great, I will love the campaign In R2, I will not like the campaign in GOW2 (most Likely) but as far as multiplayer goes I think that RFoM has alot to prove to me,I think the fun In Gear's MP comes from the feeling of being hunted, resistance has a solid Multiplayer but i felt that it was too large,But in closing I will say from what i have seen so far in R2 is very encouraging. Anyways thanks for your feed back.

I'm surprised Epic really stepped up the graphics of the Unreal Engine probably the best looking game to master the use of this engine.
I already got a PS3 and that's my main console of choice but I'm considering getting a 360 just for this game and also Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead, and Star Ocean 4.
