Alan Wake is Alive. Comparing Images to Remedy Title

German website PC Games put the magnifying glass to the new in-game screenshot for Alan Wake to see just how much Alan has changed since the Amber Alert went out for him in 2006.

PC Games writes,
In our gallery you can find some comparison images, which Alan Wake was shown two years ago and the optics of the current protagonists are under the microscope. The action-adventure since 2005 is already in development.

Graphically, it's improved, but the colour seems to have disappeared.

Then again, this is only one screenshot from a trailer which I question in terms of what hardware it's running on.

Id hazard a guess at PC and cutscene, in the screen released it clearly states "cinematic trailer" also in a native 1080. Look's great though.

The older looks good but looks like an Xbox game in comparison when it comes to the difference with the new art and graphics lol.

One has PS3-ish hues to it with inferior textures and bulky charactor structure and the new one has very high end charactor models superior lighting and textures.

your pictures have no relevance in this article.

Also, cars have looked perfect in games since sega saturn.
(they don't have any texture whatsoever. just paint and gloss/reflection effects.)

lol @ people saying Alan Wake looked so good in 2006... Now I see that comparison and wow, that 2006 screen looks awful.

I know this game will be great, but that 2008 shot is a cinematic trailer, it's not even in-game panoramic shot.

The picture is from trailer of the cinematic trailer. The trailer is produced with the engine. SO IT IS INGAME! No it's not gameplay, but still they use the engine in the cutscenes. In other word it's REALTIME!

It's still a cinematic pre-rendered trailer. They improve those much more than the real in-game engine.

The only game so far which has produced impressive in-game not rendered cut-scenes, is MGS4.

This game is more like in the mouth of madness and will be happening in a world bigger then Oblivion. Silent hill although similar holds nothing on this so don't even try it lol.

8.2 - Same thing i was thinking
the colors and hue are so a rip off of the Silent Hill Art Direction. From what i've seen the game actually look a little worse then it did when we first seen it. I think the first screens of the game actually look a lot better then theses new screens if not no diffrent at all. The game already looks dated. Thats what happens when your publisher delays your game and not YOU. (When a publisher delays a game they most times don't pay during a amount of time, then they only start development again when they can afford to and when they have a deadline for a new showing, when a developer ask to delay it, its mostly to fix up the game and they still get payed)

10.2 - Being ported and compressed for the 360 version
By default the 360 version will be the worst. PC version FTW!
The faces on the game look like they are no better then Force unleashed which weren't bad but were no MGS4, Uncharted, Killzone or Heavy Rain. Look at the faces on Farcry 2, they go WAY over anything on Alan Wake but they don't even come near Heavy Rain's. For Alan Wake for come near Heavy Rain they would have to go over every other game as well and they are really just a little better then the forced unleashed faces. I'm still getting it for PC but will not constider it a HUGE NEXT gen game, a good game but it would have to REALLY break some ground graphically for me to say that.

My pc can't even play crysis so I know I won't be able to run Alan Wake. -_- Depending on when it comes out I'll upgrade my PC around that time. Till then I don't really have much a reason to do it yet.

Everyone seems to forget the scope of this game.

It's an open world game.

Bigger than Oblivion.

Now take another look at the character details with that in mind.

It would be expected from most games that they are improved for the system they are being developed for over time. If the graphics have indeed improved in the past 2 years why complain? I forgot what developer said this but a while back some studio lead said if developers devote time to the Xbox 360 version of DirectX they can pull off some amazing stuff.

I really don't know if the glass trailer shot is in-game or pre-rendered, or in which hardware it is running if in game.

Still, much better clothes and color use (there is a huge difference in colorful as Uncharted and Colorful as GTA Vice City), Alan Wake has a system that fits better for it, by going to the "still colored but darker", it can feel much more natural (unless it is the colorful but darker as in Unreal Engine, where everything automatically looks like as high polished plastic in this palette).

But the bette in it id the new model. Just to look at the old shots brings the laught I have on 2006. This fist Alan Wake has the most dumb face in the next gen games I remember, he even looks fatty in the head alone, with the wide face, little cheek and short neck. And this hair? So gay with one of those scarf.

Not that this was bad qualities, but those make the game look cartuny (with isn't great for a suspense narrative).

The new visual in the other hand is much better. He looks more real, and have more the enigmatic expression of that lateral 2006 photo, not the retard expression on the front 2006 photo.

That is good. Don't know if 2 years worth, but good (or eve great, since you gonna have to look at this guy the entire game) regardless. Not just have to know if those are in-game or not... There was anything in that 1UP report? Or other side have said it is in-game? I don't think remedy will tell us before the "right time".

Remedy has promised near identical graphics on pc and xbox.
