"The reason it’s taking so long is simply that it’s a small team and building an open world game is very tough. They just want to take their time with it, but it’s definitely making progress."

Ok I am worried. Why such a small team for a game with so much hype?
Microsoft needs to help them if they want this game to live up to the hype.

The exact same question was asked in the podcast. Järvi says the project would get harder to manage if lots of additional people are hired and with the project being as hard as it is, they'll rather take the time.

They have to blur all the background now so that the foreground can look good.

Media Molecule and Team ICO. Small teams. Big hype. Big deliveries. I'm making some assumptions, but I think they're pretty safe bets.

5 - Having a small development team isn't a bad thing.
It took only 150 people to make GTAIV; 200 to make ocarina of time. I don't know what he means by 'small', but, as someone looking forward to this game, I'm much happier knowing that a small, intimate team of developers is working on it, rather than a hosh-bosh case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
Plus, when they continually hold off its release, even against angry tirades from the public, because they're not satisfied with it yet you know this game is very likely going to be top-quality.

I agree, it's better to have the team close together to give the game some soul :D

Not sure if 150 people counts as little and i wouldn`t have used GTA4 as an example of a great game. It`s one of the most overhyped games i`ve tried. If you had said Media Molecyle with LBP however...

Big development teams dosn`t mean it`s going to be bad either, i think it`s more a question of what kind of games you want to make.

I do agree with you that they shouldn`t show of their games or give a release date before they`re ready though. I can`t wait for more Alan Wake, the first trailer had an interesting concept.

5.3 - Team ICO was a small team as well...
...and it takes longer to create a ground up project like this. Not necessarily a bad thing in the long run but we as fans have so much anticipation for the title the development time seems bad for us.

5.4 - Remedy is really small
From Remedy's website: "Remedy currently employs over 30 highly talented game developers." http://www.remedygames.com/...

With the extra people they have hired for Alan Wake, it totals up to about 50, if I remember the number correctly from an interview I read in a finnish newspaper.

As long as they're taking their time to make sure that it's a great game, I'm fine with that. Lots of times this turns out to be the opposite, and a game with promise ends up sucking because it had to meet some deadline. I actually think it's cool that a studio is willing to take such a long time to get the game right. With that said, I do wish that some concrete information about the game would be given besides a new video. I've been excited about the game ever since it was announced, but have just kind of forgotten about it recently since they haven't even given us anything to hold us over. Hopefully the new video shows a lot of progress, or at least lets us see more of the game than small videos in the past.

As long as they continue to take their time to make it great I'll be busy enough with all the badass games coming out this fall.

7.2 - There's a lot of video...
There's a couple tech demo's showing the day/night cycle, environments, and physics. Then there's a trailer that actually gives an idea of what the story is going to be like.

11.1 - That's not really surprising...
It's not enormously huge on anything time consuming. Once the toolset was set up they probably just spent most of the time making levels.

12 - Anyone listen to the podcast...
To be honest I cant even begin to act like im excited about this game to even care about listening to the podcast. This is just another game of great potential but unpromising results.
