Halo 3 expansion coming possibly on Jan 6, 2009

The Halo 3 expansion teaser trailer's only been out an hour or so but gamers have already started to watch it in slow-mo to find every little hint they can. One Joystiq reader seems to have found a date somewhere in the footage - the date for the Halo 3 expansion's release?

And to be clear, Joystiq claims that a reader sent it in. I have no idea whether that reader found it from some other site or what. It seems fairly impossible to determine.

What I dont understand is why MS decided to cancel this announcement at E3, it would have been cool really.

Thats way too early in the year, MS would want to sell as much as possible both hardware and software wise when in comes to Halo and a Jan release wont do that especally an early Jan release

I bet thats when they will release another trailer or more details on the project rather than a release date

They don't want to put a Halo expansion pack up against Gears of War 2. A January release would be perfect. Bungie has had plenty of time to create some side missions to Halo 3.

Their decsion to do that is comprehensible. Even though this is great news for Halo fans, its obviously not as important as the big M$ annoucement at E3 08 (FF XIII going multiplat).

unless its an expansion on the same sort of scale as oblivions, i am not interested.

It looks cool, but i am not sure it will be worth it with all the other games coming out. especially if its going to cost us like 1200 points for something like that.

still i'll wait and see.

Its most likely an expansion based on the helljumpers from Halo 2.It will be 3rd person like Gears of War and will take place around the timeframe of Halo 3.Also its 8 player co-op squad support.

Whether this is true or not, I think that Microsoft definantly needs something early next year to counter Killzone 2, especially if Killzone 2 ends up being a big hit.

The Xbox 360 has the advantage with price, but so far there hasn't been any confirmed 360 exclusive games for early next year and I guess a Halo 3 expansion could at least give Microsoft something to work with against KZ2 early in 2009, but a Halo 3 expansion really wouldn't move 360 units because Halo fans already have a 360.

Thats actually a good point.Any Halo fan including myself have already bought a 360.Halo Wars is just an extra along with the other Halo games.However,I think Microsoft still has Splinter Cell:Conviction,Alan Wake and Star Ocean 4 to move a few units in 2009.Dont discount the 360 just yet

17 - I personally think this will easily be overshadowed
by Gears 2 by far. I was expecting a whole new game, with different gameplay, and obviously the graphics we should've had from Halo 3. Bungie definatley will never get out of the rut of what they did with Halo 3 especially graphically. With also knowing what Sony is doing with Killzone 2, you think they would've obviously put more work into the game, because lets face it Sony's 2nd attempt at a Halo killer is definately/finally going to pay off... no doubt about it!.

Im a avid gamer and love to collect the collectors editions of great games, but the way Halo 3 turned out I felt like a massive fool for getting the legendary edition when nothing about it felt Legendary at all...

I find it funny that people are bashing on Halo 3 and by most of your words are calling it a failure. I'm pretty sure about 90% of you haven't even played it. The game is getting close to 10 million sold and has averaged a 94%.

I just can't believe how much Bungie has been hooking us up. With new multiplayer maps, mutliplayer updates, new achievements, and now you can add more campaign. Just wow. Other developers need to take notes.

it's just flat out not what it's supposed to be. Sure this content support will be great and I do think other devs should take notes. But I still don't think Halo 3 hit expectation levels with fans (and I sure in the hell am 1 of them). The fact it looked so much like Halo 2 which was on the LAST GEN CONSOLE! ticked me off. The almighty Halo 3 knew of the threats brought before it examples = Resistance 1 and Killzone 2. Sure Halo 3 sold a lot, but I wonder how many people still own it or play it online?. It's going to have its faithful fans, like I am on Gears every to everyother night. But Halo 3 by far didn't end up what I and many others expected, and with its main rival since last gen = Killzone 2 coming around. You think Bungie would've done more graphically with the game. I don't like the picture/video capture stuff either, I feel it's irrevelant and not needed (I feel the same for Gears 2) and if that stuff could've been cut to benefit even more in the graphics department, etc.. I feel it should/should've been. Cause its obvious the Halo series is taking a backseat to Gears now, because it simply looks/plays better. Which is bad mainly for Bungie before Microsoft, because it was Bungies game that single handedly helped get the Xbox brand get a foothold in the console market and to where it is at. But now people would rather look to the franchise that is doing what they expect out of their 360 console and that king is now Gears!

Well being a fan of Halo from Day 1, I thought Halo 3 hit in all cylinders. It is a huge improvement over Halo 2. I think why people complain about the graphics of Halo 3 is because people are getting used to the typical dark gray/brown game like Resistance, KZ2, or Gears. But for people that say Halo 3 looks like Halo 2, all you have to do is compare a few similar maps from both games. For example, compare Last Resort with Zanzibar. They are the same map but you can clearly see that Halo 3's version is FAR superior in graphics. Hell look at the water in the map Valhalla, it's some of the best water effects I have ever seen in a game.

Than of course their is the top notch gameplay. And now they added the incredible equipment. It totally changes the gameplay. Should you go get the power weapons? Or get the equipment? Regen? Shield? Drainer? or Rocket Launcher? Lots of decisions to make and not just a race for the Rocket Launcher like in Halo 2.

And Halo 3 has been the number 1 played game on Xbox Live since Day 1. Don't pay attention to those silly Xbox Live graphs you see on this site. They only track ip addresses and not guests. Halo 3 beats COD4 on any given day at least 3:1 on player count.

And of course my favorite feature was the ability to go back and view all my Running Riots on any angle I choose. That was just icing on the cake. Halo 3 is easily the best of the trilogy. Close to 10 million sold and a whopping 94% average. And still in the top 10 monthly sales charts for the 360. This beast isn't going no where.
