TeamXbox: Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore 2 Hands-On Preview

TeamXbox writes: "The music-game genre is fairly fresh as video-game categories go, but already it has a bunch of successful franchises. Rock Band revolutionized the four-player-ensemble format and recently had its second title release. Guitar Hero revolutionized the shredder game and is getting ready to see its fifth major title release (we're counting GH: Aerosmith and GH: On Tour for Nintendo DS as "title" releases, while the mobile-phone version and GH Encore: Rocks the 80s expansion as minor releases). However, as revolutions go, Karaoke Revolution has been at the forefront, with the series about to have its seventh title release. (That game, Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore 2, also steals the crown for Longest Game Name of 2008, which was previously owned by its number-less predecessor.)

(Before the preview gets going, we'll repeat what we stated in the initial KRAIE game review, that a full disclosure is warranted: TeamXbox is part of IGN Entertainment's network of entertainment-oriented websites, and IGN is in turn part of Fox Interactive Media or FIM, which is in turn part of News Corp., the international media conglomerate. The "American Idol" TV show appears on Fox Television Stations, which are also part of News Corp.; as is the americanidol.com website, which also happens to be managed by FIM. This convoluted familial relationship continues with little overlap or influence between these various businesses-and certainly no direct impact on what the previewer reveals about the KRAIE title, but we felt it was important to bring it up these tenuous links nonetheless.)"
