Xbox Live downtime announced for 29th September

Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com will be down for 24 hours from 0900 UK time (1000 CET) on September 29 - but it's not all bad news! This downtime is really important as the Xbox LIVE team will be using it to prepare the service for the arrival of the New Xbox Experience later this year!

1 - What are the chances?
Of the new experience launching around the same time as the Fable II release, which also happens to be around the release of Little Big Planet and the rumoured Playstation Home release?

What are the chances my ass, all the things you mentioned had the release dates announced after E3 lol.

You know the new XBE will launch around this time because MSFT said so months ago lol.

PS3 fan logic is funny.

power of green you have serious attitude problems when it comes to generalizing people because of the console they like. Not only that, but you're just a troll. A lazy troll.

I just hope this goes over well and the whole LIVE network doesn't turn upside down. After all we are paying for this service.

Looking forward to the new xbox experience (although I think the names a bit much... don't you?)

I don't see myself spending time in the digital world that is "Home" because... Why would I want to boot up a digital world, so I can then gather my friends and go into an online game... when With the click of a button I can just bring up my friends list and invite them all into a game on XBL. Sure yeah, Home is free, XBL isn't yadda yadda yadda.

But Home just hasn't impressed me. Sure I'll download it once it comes out... but I don't see myself spending too much time in there. Avatars, I don't mind so much.. because they're there on start up, and it doesn't really change the quickness of socializing on XBL. Just wish they didn't go with the Mii approach.

But yeah. Bring it on!

You can do the same thing in xbox live now with game invites. Home just sugar coats everything in a sims inspired cyber world.

4.3 - I can't wait to try the new Home interface.
Calling it a "Sims Ripoff" seems a bit off since the Sims is about taking control of the lives of simulated AI. HOME is about meeting up with new people and enhancing your gaming experience.

From what Sony's announced, all the HOME features will be added to the XMB interface so people who hate HOME will never be forced to use it. I like the idea of photo-realistic avatars though since they give a lot more context than screen names.

I'm in the HOME beta and it's actually a lot more appealing than I thought it would be.

It's a 24hr a day dance party and surprised to see as many females in it as I have. I just hope the place doesn't turn to crap when it rolls out of beta. Too many immature idiot gamers(as N4G proves daily) and right now there is just a few and when they start throwing out slurs everyone gangs up on them and tells them to GTFO.

Sorry to go off topic.

8 - What I am really waiting for is....
I'm waiting for the 8 person group chat. In the days of old on the original xbox they had a 4 person private chat and I have really missed those days. This is the biggest perk for me in the new update, well, that and HD installs.

The group chat will motivate me to play more Battlefield Bad Company. The 4 player squad thing just kills it for me because I always have between 5 and 9 good friends online at once. It sucks to have to split into squads of 4 and not be able to communicate with my other friends. This will be awesome.

Avatars? Well I don't care as much about those, but again, the other parts of the xbox experience are what I care about the most. Any time I can limit the amount of stupid little kids screaming over me when I am trying to talk strategy with my friends is a welcome feature.

As far as Home goes, I am interested to see how well its gonna work. I have been looking forward to it for a while, but there are some issues that need to be worked out on the PSN for it to truly be successful. Mainly, the 800 blah blah blah error code many of my friends get that signs them in and out all the time from PSN. Yes, they have their networks set up right, with all the right ports open and static ips assigned, but it still happens, and it happens a lot.

I think both of them will offer nice new things for both systems. Its a win/win for gamers!!

29th Spetember is a Monday which I'm sure most of the people who play XBL will either be at school/college/uni or at work or just being a lazy bum lol.

10 - The update is probably on Monday
When I read about the service being down for 24 hours on monday for the new xbox experience, I assumed that this is the big update. I still assume that. They flat out say that. Why else would they be down for that long and why is nobody else thinking this?
