GCO: Pure Review "MotorWHAT?"

GCO writes: "When Disney Interactive Studios purchased Climax Development many fans didn't know what to think. Even game developer Jackson Avent dreaded a Mikey or Donald racing game, so what we're expected as fans? Well, it was more then what we had hoped for as fans of the ATV racing games. Instead of some kind of extreme kid racing game we got a game of pure amazement simply entitled, Pure. I mean really even the game title sounds cool. Disney really made something amazing because this game really does rip books on ATV games as this game ditches the standard dirt adds stunt tracks for a world of vista free fall tracks that can make you scream from the heights."

ROFL @ the title. Trying to get hits on your little website there? You couldn't compare the two even if you tried. They're not the same. Motorstorm is about racing in huge, multi-route environments with more than just ATV's. Pure is like ATV Offroad Fury but weaker and with more unnecessary bloom effects all over the screen. Even the character models are outlined with bloom. At least you admit that your website sucks though. That screen shot in the article looks even worse than the original Motorstorm.

Well you can really they are both the same game at the quore. I'm going to tell you something that i should really tell you this game is like the Motorstorm of ATV's it even looks as good as Motorstorm. And hold on i never said that so yeah... O yeah, and the reason we are not that good is because there's only 2 people working on the site right now, but right before gears of war 2 you better watch out. Plus they look the same to me and i played this game on the playstation 3 and 360

motor"STORM"- the baddest, most intence and brutal off road racing game ever to hit a console in all eternity. motorSTORM- a true heart pounding experience exclusive to the ps3 with no game that can match it in its genre and totally revolutionized the way we play, and look at off road racing games. : )

"PURE"- a fun little quad game where you are in the air more that 50% of the time and mostly do tricks and is no where near motorstorm "badass" wise. XD pure can be good but dont put the two in the same sentence cause that's just ridiculous.

Why involve Motorstorm when you are "reviewing" the game on a 360? It's like talking smack about somebody else who wasn't even there to defend themselves. It wasn't necessary and I regret clicking the link to give you one more hit...

BTW, I played the Pure demo and it was nice, no Motorstorm (can't speak for Pacific Rift, yet) nor Motorstorm demo, but it was decent. Definitely not worth $60 for basically one vehicle compared to MS or Dirt.

I have a feeling some people are going to be eating their words when Motorstorm releases (I am not necessarily talking about this article either).

MS2 hasnt been shown a whole lot and just like the first one it will look subpar up till release but in the end it will trump this game. 16 tracks, 4 player offline splitscreen, custom soundtracks, new vehicle classes and I will bet anyone here ANY amount of money that MS2 will kick the sh*t outta Pure's graphics when it is released.

MS1 was a good title. The gameplay and graphics were fantastic but you could tell they just straight up ran out of time/money. They spent a ton of money on R&D. However, this time around they seem to have a feature packed game with all the gameplay anyone could ever want out of an arcade racer. The GRAPHICS WILL be amazing and we all know the gameplay will rule any competitors. Add in the features and you have yourself a 9 or above on most sites.

The game will have staying power because of the online side. Doing tricks gets you boost, you need boost to have a fast enough atv to win. Doing more agressive tricks gets you more boost. And a greater chance of crashing and falling behind. The demo is alot of fun.

I dont know about you but I do not buy any kind of racing game to play single player or split screen.

SOunds like you are bitter that Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise.

wow this crappy game got a 9/10? all it has is tricks and ATVs. the graphics are poor the gameplay is bogus, the music is crappy and tries really hard to be like MotorStorm, etc.

My guess would be your thoughtless flame provoking title. Go to Yankee Stadium and yell "The Red Sox Rule" and see if you get treated any better.

Also, your review is fairly sparce. It doesn't tell us much at all other than YOU like it, but not really why.

Anyway, like many others, playing the demo just made me hang out for MS2 more. I cant believe how good the next couple of months are.

I have NO PROBLEM with the review, in fact, I appreciate it. The thing that everyone is annoyed by is that you compared PURE to an 'exclusive' and everybody brings out their flamethrowers for the console war. Even though you only mentioned MS in the title and didn't actually compare the two, people still consider it part of the console war.

People are also mad that you didn't even compare the two.

I don't really think anyone is too worried about this perceived threat that you seemed to have picked up on. I don't have a problem with him doing a review or even mentioning MS in it (if he had). I have a problem with the fact that it wasn't necessary to compare the two games in the title and then not even mention Motorstorm in the review.

It wouldn't be any different than if he had said HaloWHAT when reviewing the next Gears. First off the game came out over a year ago and had a lot more going on than ATV racing. Also, he never even mentions any comparisons in the review. For what? Hits to his website. That's not cool and I hope you can at least see the logic in that.

Lets say you played Gears 1, great game right? now this multiplatform game comes out called damnation which has a similar cover system, you played the demo and you think it was okay, but it wasnt even better than gears 1 in a lot of fields and Gears 2 is right around the corner right, which should be even better. (switching timeline just for example) then this guy comes out of nowhere and puts "Gears of What" in his title just to get some hits but he makes no comparison its just a review of damnation and he gives it a ridiculously high score that it really doesnt deserve. Lets say damnation had only one type of gun where gears has plenty, it looks a bit better than gears one but has a crap load of bloom, wouldnt that bother you?

Well , i tried the Pure demo and i found the racing to be very rudimentary with none of the physical interaction or the visceral on-the-edge-of your-seat racing present in Motorstorm.

first of all, not every game can be represented by their demos alone.

rudimentary??? the stunts in Pure are over the top impossible to do if you tried it in real life you'd proably hurt ur self, they're most fantasies. if your talkin bout racing its got the same fundamentals as Motorstorm, since they're in the same genre.

in every racing game you can get that same intense " on-the-edge-of-you-seat " feeling when ever you play the game with a buddy or online....shouldn't be judged by that feelin u didnt get.

I have played Motorstorm, both with and without Sixaxis motion controls. Played it for quite some time actually. I thought the controls were clunky and it got repetitive very fast. Also, your vehicle breaks for almost nothing which gets very annoying. It's a 6-7/10 at best.

You guys are stuck defending it since for a long time it was the only remotely interesting game the PS3 had. For people like me who have had the chance to experience more next gen racing games Motorstorm is nothing special. I'd take Flatout: Ultimate Carnage over it any day. Extremely underrated title.

Pure is no comparison. In fact Motorstorm is like Mr. Miyagi while Pure is daniel-san. The wolfmother track and controls are the tell-tale of what I said. Motorstorm has more physics-intensive activity going on, wider array of vehicles and looks better. Ive played both demo's so I can back up what I say. Both games look good but Motorstorm is the better game imo.
