XBLS: Where are they now? Episode 1

Goldenboy87 of XBLS writes:

"Hey everyone! Here is a weekly look at X-Box games that never got the praise they deserve!

So today we are going to talk about the ill-fated Shadowrun for the 360!

FASA Studious at first wanted to create a game based of the Shadowrun universe but wanted to turn the commonly known Cyber-Punk Pen and Paper RPG into a full blown First-Person Shooter. The original concept had a Single Player mode but was scrapped for the development of the PC version so Microsoft can promote Games for Windows Live (According to one of the Game Testers known as ext360).

The game was reminiscent of Counter Strike with its round by round purchases which many praised (due to CS' popularity of course). Its shooting mechanics were detailed and rewarded the player for the most accuracy, it was also based of the Halo 1 engine which led to further praise form the Competitive console community…

But that was just the problem."

For a online only game. There were far to little characters, weapons and maps. Come on, like 5 maps? Fun game, but it lacked what a online only game should have.

Shadowrun was one of the best games I have played online since the 360 released. Unfortunately, $60 is quite a bit for an online-only game with few game modes and little to no support. If it came out for say $40 of less, maybe it would have sold better. Still, it had one great thing going for it, and that is that it was just flat-out fun to play. It's a shame that so few people got to experience such a great game.

MS should re-release it as a downloadable title on XBL like they are doing with old xbox games...

5 - There might be a few overlooked titles for the 360, Shadowrun is not one of them
A couple of points made by the author are either misguided or wrong.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1) There was only Multiplayer in the game (most FPS games are expected to have an Single Player, sadly)<!--[endif]-->

Warhawk is a multiplater only game and it is doing excellent and still recieving updates and map packs... WRONG.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->2) Lack of different game types online (there were only 3)<!--[endif]-->

Yeah that is true, but the same could be said about to sucessful games; Warhawk and even to a lesser extent Call of Duty 4 (still all I play, but it's still very basic).

<!--[if !supportLists]-->3) There was barely any marketing for the game<!--[endif]-->

OUT RIGHT LIE! Microsoft touted this game as the launch title for Games for Windows as well as XBL. There was plenty of attention paid by the gaming media, yet some how to as much bad press like Lair (an equally craptacular game). There was plenty of marketing.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->4) FASA went out of business<!--[endif]-->

FASA was dismantled BECAUSE of Shadowrun's epic fail, not the other way around.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->5) Halo 3<!--[endif]-->

Halo 3 had nothing to do with Shadowrun's failure, their release dates were far enough apart.

6 - Not sure if it matters....
To anybody here, but I still play Shadowrun, and still have a blast. I don't need any more characters or levels, because the ones that came with the game are good enough.

I bought it on day one, and got my moneys worth, I can only imagine how happy I would be if I bought it for $20 now.

:D

It should be bought.
