Halo 3 Beta Via Crackdown Not For Core Owners
12
Sorry, Core Pack Xbox 360 owners, but you really should have known better. Those of you sporting an Xbox 360 sans hard drive are going to be, unsurprisingly, shut out of the Halo 3 beta if you purchase your copy of Crackdown hoping to secure a spot.

this is a little "duh" moment to be shared
halo 3 doesn't come on the crackdown disk??? well... DERRRRR... plus, its a beta and will have many many updates throughout the beta cycle.... which of course requires space to be downloaded to
and to karibu, microsoft isn't screwing anyone over... its a beta and its a privaledge, not a right, you won't need the harddrive to play the retail version when that comes out, so stfu

I'm wondering what happened to that 50 MB limit that Microsoft has been forcing onto developers for the past 14 months?
MS needs to stop screwing over their customers.

6 - DJ^^^
You know the limit is on xbox live arcade games not demo down loads.
Anyway, this is why they should have never released the core unit and had the HDD in all systems. Despite what anyone says, the core does not give you the FULL experience of the 360.

For once pay attention. You're talking about Arcade games man with the 50 MB limit. I have demo's that are over 1 GB on my 360 HDD...

"I'm wondering what happened to that 50 MB limit that Microsoft has been forcing onto developers for the past 14 months?"
Utterly uninformed fanboyism at its best.
THE HALO BETA MUST BE DOWNLOADED FROM XBOX LIVE, AND IF YOU WANT TO GET ON XBL, YOU NEED A HARD DRIVE. Stop b*tching about Core units, people. People on Core units aren't on Live anyway (by their own choice- meaning they probably don't have broadband), so what does the Halo 3 Beta matter to them anyway? They can't download it, and even if they could, they can't play it.

11 - This gen needs Hard disk
Sony and MS offers demo's and on line store for smaller games. Wii does not offer that as far as I know. This will most probably be a crucial issue when this becomes the preferred method of selling games.
MS timed it well - they will most probably offer the 120GB disk model (new premium?) and the now premium model as the new core model and drop the diskless version.
Can not really think why the diskless version of any console should have a right to existence at around 2008. I think the Wii will dominate sales through 2007, and then drop of sharply middle 2008 when both MS and Sony start dropping prices.
Sorry for the core version owners - this kind of sucks. It most probably is quite expensive to upgrade with a hard disk. 20GB space is too small anyway - they should just start of with at least 100GB - Sony and MS.
If on-line distribution of games and demo's becomes standard - which is what it looks like at the moment - then bigger hard disks is a requirement.

12 - 100% Guarantee of Playing the Beta?
I have a Core Pack that I upgraded with an HDD a month after the launch of the 360, so the article doesn't concern me. What DOES concern me is the likelyhood of actually getting the Crackdown disc that has the Beta code. Will this be a 1 in 20 chance, or will it be "game launch discs only," or will it be all Crackdown game discs? I don't want to go and buy it, only to be let down by not having the specially marked case, because if chances of getting it are low, I'll just GameFly Crackdown and save myself the money.
EDIT: If only certain Crackdown boxes are labeled, you KNOW that those GameStop employees will be grabbing at them before anyone even has a chance.
