IGN: Tales of Vesperia Review & Video Review

Tales of Vesperia is a strong anime-style Japanese RPG with a wide-ranging story, compelling characters and an intense real-time battle system that keeps you on your toes. Although it has a somewhat inconsistent visual style and is relatively low on graphical details, the character designs and animations are very good, and there's a ton to explore in the world. The storyline isn't breaking any new ground and begins to unravel somewhat at the end, but there's power here, and the characters will definitely stay with you after the battle ends.

In MS and 360 defense no one ever said that thise game is FF worthy, not by a long shot. On other hand props to MS for at least trying to bring more Jrpgs to their systems, something that was on original xbox rare as white whales are.
Besides this title is time exlcusive and i am looking forward to eventually play it on PS3.
BTW/ 8.2 is great score.

Looks better than the other JRPGs released so far, but overall JRPGs are boring and cliche and need a major overhaul.

Microsoft was smart for releasing this in Japan for 360 only though. Japanese people are suckers for cliche anime type stuff.

That's because Scamco has confirmed that every console gets an original Tales game. Sony gets theirs next year and it will not be this, but something entirely new. Nintendo and shovelware-extrordinare get theirs later this year too. It's how Scamco is working things with Tales this gen.

I don't think it has been announced for the ps3 as it is.
NamcoBandai seem to make a lot of their titles multiplatform nowadays though, so at least a release in Japan of a ps3-version isn't completely unthinkable... imo.

Shame about only eng-dub, I hope the jap-dub will be released as DLC.

I'm willing to admit that I favour my PS3, but when the 360 gets a game I want to play, there is no shame in buying it. I love JRPGs, and the 360 is where it's at. And you can take the anti-360 comments and post them somewhere else mate. The JRPG support on the 360 has been solid. Go back on the PS2 (my favorite console of all time where I was simply spoiled in 2006) and look at the average for RPG scores. Guaranteed on metacritic you'll find the good ones scoring mostly at 8-8.5 overall.

That's the norm. Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Tales make the 360 a worthy JRPG machine. A lot better than Sony is doing these days. I can't wait for White Knight Chronicles....but where is?

And in terms of innovation when it comes to JRPGs...wanna know which FF (Final Fantasy gamer since 1990, played the all) I dislike the most? FFXII. The one that changed everything gameplay wise and forgot about things like characters development and story. Innovation only does so much in this genre. It's about perfecting standards and providing the goods with other elements then just the play.

Tales scored well, not on my radar, but good score.

Some good, some mediocre, some fail, however, nothing groundbreaking. Microsoft needs to innovate, create something unique, and do it themselves, recruit their own talent instead of buying games, timed exclusive games or content, or simply put, 1uping the competition. Microsoft needs new and better experiences, not just "better" ones that end up looking like rehashes. Sony might not have much on PS3 in terms of japanese support, at least not yet, but if WKC ends being better than all of the JRPGs on 360, it could mean trouble for 360 since japanese developers would follow suit. Not only that, but to say that the 360 is the "JRPG machine" of this generation is kind of hasty and ridiculous, considering neither the PS3 nor the Wii are even on their second year, not to mention that 360s offerings do not compare at all to previous JRPG consoles. JRPG fans are not really missing much new without a 360, and they are better off waiting without next-gen consoles and still playing last generation JRPGs (After all, who the hell has finished every single one of them anyway?).

So...uh, where's the PS3 RPGs at? Oh yeah, there are none worth mentioning outside of my favorite SRPG ever!!! That said, that's one that has scored similar to Lost Odyssey. You sir need to get your head outta your arsh and come to terms with reality that there is more to life than PS3. To post THAT many links....got a job mate? Maybe a family or school or something that could be considered priority? If you've got that much time on your hands, why don't you play some games instead? Don't get fanboys, their obsessive and wierd to an extreme beyond anything even I could have pulled out as an exclusive PS2 owner last-gen defending my console against my Halo fratboy friends.

OH, Folklore is a 75, less than Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, so that's one down in the case you want to post some links. See what I did? I gave you some time to do something other than try everything in your life's power to put down a GAMING CONSOLE. Sad soul. And yes I played Folklore. Decent but far from anything presented of the likes of an RPG on the 360. Sorry, but don't get me wrong. I ain't no 360 fanboy, just an RPG fan. Hence why I had to buy BOTH consoles, cause Sony dropped the ball in that genre mate. At least till next year (maybe...delays suck).

ooo man I remember that one bro how soon we forget...I have all three consoles and I am still a sony fanboy (gotta admit their are a handful of xbox games that I want to play) but the tales series will never get a score higher than what ign gave them so its not a flop in my opinion. 10.3 - I read somewhere

that Namco will release a seperate Tales game for the PS3. If they don't make enough money on this game i wouldn't be surprise if they release it soon on the PS3. The problem with these JRPGs is that they sell well in Japan and currently the PS3 has 4 times as many PS3 in Japan and growing.

13 - for all you idiots that say flop

A true flop is a game with bad reviews and low sales. now i know all you ps3 owners want to take shots at 360 owners for what they did to you last year but the difference is 360 fanboys buy games no matter what the critics say! Ps3 fanboys don't plain and simple and you don't have to take my word for it just look at your precious NPD numbers in software. Im one of the few people that bought lair, it was okay but it wasn't the best game ever, but i attributed to it's sales. And anyone who ever played heavenly sword wouldn't dare call it a bad game but the sales department didn't help its argument. For you die hard Sony Fanboys talking ish on forums try buying the games instead of trolling all day! Then maybe some of the good or average games on the console wouldn't be consider flops, and you won't be such spiteful time of the month well you know what im getting at!

most PS fans here don't have those games you mention?. NA numbers are pretty close considering that the x360 has twice the number of PS3 NA, or are you expecting PS3 owners to buy two copies each for each game?.
