PS3 Downloading Speed Much Faster Than 360

Thatgamingsite reports:

As you may know I own both systems 360 and PS3 and I was testing out which download was faster just to let people know about this.

Yes it does. I am on an 8MB pipe and my PS3 downloads a great deal faster than my 360. Both systems are hardwired into my router.

Well i used to have a 360 and a PS3 and i know for sure my 360 used to download stuff at LEAST 2 times faster than on my PS3. But it might depend on the connection. I was using some random internet connection. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either so wateva

1.3 - Simple Logic
People shouldn't complain of the speed of PSN downloads. It's Free.

People However can Complain of XBL speeds since well it's not Free.

People with XBL silver accounts can't complain either since they are number one reason for teenage pregnancy. ;)

The speed of the downloads on the 360 are exaggerated. When you download the exact mutliplatform demo the speed is about the same and at it's fatest the 360 is only 1.5x faster. The slowness is exaggerated on PS3 just because you have to hit a few more buttons to install. I would not pay a $1 for that 1.5x speed and no install.

1.5 - I don't have an 8MB connection
But I will say this. Live is faster than PSN for downloading in my experience. I have had both my consoles on 2 different high speed cable connections at 2 different apartments.

I have also had my PS3 hardwired to the router as well as on wifi. Didn't make a difference.

PSN has cleaned up quite a bit since last year though. The store is much more responsive. Big props to Sony for improving PSN.

so a 60mb game would take 1 min to download

Are you a noob? With a 10 mbps you can download a 60mb file in one minute, but with a 1mbps it would take a lot longer.

10mbps=roughly 1MB a second or 1024Kb/s

1mbps= around 100Kb/s

Honestly I have noticed the 360 to be a little faster, but I have a 15mbps line so everything comes in pretty damn quick.

it also depends on the community. Xbl is double the size with oeople downloading and double/triple in content. It also depends on location b/c of where the servers are located. I have a 15mpbs connection and usually can get a 5-7gb movie running within 1-10 secs with progressive d/l so time really dosn't matter.

@rpgenius420

Actually 1 mbps is 60 seconds for a 60 MB game/demo etc, that's 1 minute, so Ben had it right.

I Only own a PS3, I have it hooked up to my router
via ethernet cable, my PS3 downloads almost as fast
as my PC, and that's really all I need.

Yes, the PS3 is fast, damn fast.

I remembered installing GTAIV and I had *no* idea it was finished that quickly until ten minutes later.

@rpgenius.

To be fair to 1054 he was being consequent, talking in terms of mb not MB. get it? :)

I cant really complain. I have maxed out my internet download speed most of the times when doing so on my PS3, which is about 1MB/s or 8 mbps (I think I got that right).

MB and Mb are two completely different things... well not completely, but still different.

2 - sorry guys but
I own both and what I've noticed is that my 360 downloads faster than my PS3. Maybe it has to do with my 360 being wired and my PS3 being Wireless.

Probably does. =[ I love my PS3 though.

The post is nonsense, the traffic durring any specific day(due to content or activity) or the volume of the base in general has more to do with speed than anything else.

2.2 - Yuppers
That's what I was thinking. Placebo effect, nothing more. Only way to truly know is to have an uptapped T3 line with a nice workstation to monitor bandwidth usage. I'd rather prefer the 360 way of doing things because I can let it download and it'll auto-shutdown.

2.3 - Sorry kid I own both
I tested them both at the sametime, and one at a time. The PS3 download speeds are WAY faster than that of the X Box 360. I guess its thanks to SONY for improving it. X Box live used to be faster, but SONY has it the upperhand again.

I will agree who cares what downloads faster, unless somehow some way you can run a torrent engine and "ILLEGALZ DOWNLOADZ ENGINEZ" from your console.

Dude I can tell when price drops happen, when new games hit or when most folks play on XBL and even what time zone has the most traffic based on DL speeds lol.

I know people are buying 20gig and 60gig consoles based on speeds lol.

Yeah, I hear ya. But did you forget about the downloading time for system update on both consoles?
My x360 updates in 5min, and my ps3 updated in half and hour.
I have both systems using wi-fi and x360 is faster (it was faster even when Too Human Demo was downloaded and full game released).
BTW, game updates take about 15-30sec on x360.

30 minutes to download and install
a PS3 update?, Takes me anywhere from
3 minutes to 8 minutes, depending on the size.

The Install takes longer then the DL.

4.4 - you know why
game updates are so fast for 360? for the ps3 it has a hard drive from the factory, not all 360's do. so what does that mean? the ps3 can have game updates much larger ex. the orange box recently at 128 mb if I remember correctly. since not all 360's have a hdd there is now way an update should be or can be that big, same thing with game installs. at least thats how I interpret it.

I only own a PS3 at this point, but I must say that this is a mutt point as although it may be faster for one person, there were not any fail safes put in place to make sure there was no why for variable change in the results.
For example, lets talk about peak hour or service traffic.
Was this even considered?
What about the fact that the 360 installs after its finished downloading, even though it looks like its still downloading.
Or what about the area he lives in, the connection type/speed and console and location of origin.
And are you using a router, and if you are, was it setup properly with static IPs or just allowed to connect to what ever IP is free.
Did you open ports if you are on a router to make for optimal performance.

These kinds of questions must be asked before you can ever say for certainty that ANYTHING is "better" or "faster".

I approve this story only in hopes that people will check the comments to know that this is bull, and not to be taken as fact.

How about some number crunching and overall service record for your service.

I can't be sure about the internet download speed but for transfering with-in your own network the PS3 is faster.

I'm sure many people didn't even bother to look at what the PS3 comes with. The ethernet adapter on the PS3 has got to be one of the most overlook PS3 hardware.

The xbox 360 has a 10/100 ethernet adapter. 100Mbit/s being it's max

The PS3 has a 10/100/1000 ethernet adapter. 1000Mbit/s being it's max.

Most people don't have Gigabit Ethernet capable routers and/or fast enough internet connections that would utilise the extra bandwidth over 100Mbit Ethernet.

9 - i tested this yesterday and downloaded the demo for tiger woods from both xbl and psn
the xbl downloaded in 20 minutes and I could turn off my xbox while I did it if I wanted to.
The psn download took well over an hour and needed to be installed after.
So XBL won hands down I'm afraid

I download cross platform game demos to check the quality of the games in both systems. And i find PS3 is a lot faster. Maybe because of less PSN users?

My PS3 downloads stuff faster than my friend's xbox 360 up in Rutherfordton , but at the same time, another friend of mine in stem, who also has an xbox 360, can download stuff on it faster than I can download stuff on my ps3. Why is that? Simple: Not everyone has the same internet service provider. The speed at which you download stuff all depends on the internet service you have, and how much traffic there is. Exactly like POG said. You can't truly say one console is faster than the other when it comes to downloads, there's too many variables at which download speed can be affected. Some people may have better internet service than you, some may have worse.

You got to take note also that the 360 doesn't have to install the games after it get done downloading. I'm sure if you were to take the time a PS3 demo downloads and installs and compared it with the time it takes a demo to download on the 360, it would be just about even....

its also hard to compare downloads of 3rd party titles, b/c i'm sure the code is way different for both, due to the diff architecture
