Japan Is Totally Sold Out of Xbox 360s (New Shippment Next Month!)

Kotaku writes: "Remember when we thought the Xbox 360 was sold out at one Japanese store? That's not all. It's sold out across the whole damn country. Like, sold out sold out. It's so sold out that Microsoft Japan actually put out an official statement about the situation in The Land of the Rising Sun, apologizing for the lack of consoles. Since demand has eclipsed supply, Microsoft's supply has gone totally dry. The company is ramping up production, and the console will not be shipped to stores until next month."

The stores are sold out because they don't keep much in stock in the first place. Heck, one store probably had no more than 200 360's in stock at once.

... I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stores still had launch 360's in their from 2005.

i am on my second 360 and the way it sounds when i turn it on.. the third one is not to far behind.. lol the Xbox 360 sounds like a DC-10 when functioning; compared to the Stealth Bomber.. functioning aspect of the PS3. Watch out for Sony after (Leipzig 9/20/08)

also xbox 360 games scratches and cracks easily after simple playing use... i have a couple of games that have center cracks outwards from replacing it back into the game casing.. do not sheath your games back into the casing are risk fractures... lol

i work at a game store, and we resurface discs all the time, and it's not that we get a ton of scratched 360 games, but the ones the 360 does scratch, it destroys. if i resurface them to the point that the scratch is out, it wipes all data off the disc b/c its usually so deep. i've never scratched my games, but it does happen

My family has 3 xbox 360's with one of them being the core version from launch. Luckily I too have not been affected by the RRoD on any of my consoles, but I do know 3 friends who have had the problem. So just b/c we are lucky doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

As for the game scratching, I've never had a game scratch, but my Gears of War game that has never been anywhere other than in my 360 or in its case developed this weird crack that wouldn't allow the game to play anymore (opening screen said something like insert a readable dvd whenever I tried to play it), so I had to get the disc replaced for 10 bucks. So although this stuff has never happened to you, it has happened to some.

And to the topic of the article, I hate to knock the 360 but it is really only selling b/c of Tales of Vesperia, I'm willing to bet the software sales of 360 games not named Tales of Vesperia are unaffected by the selling out of xbox360's.

The 360 beat the PS3 this week in Japan because of a new, solid RPG.

The 360 will probably win for at least a couple of more weeks.

No excuses can be made.

Microsoft won Japan this week.

Sony won every other country.

that when you go over to most PS3 threads on N4G.com. You rarely find as many as many 360 gamers there. Yet in every 360 thread there are tons...Like this one for example. Dude, its only cos the Xboxers all died here from malnutrition. (Nothing to play this year) and PS3 got on a roll and the PS3 fans quickly outnumbered them. (N4G is a template for life.)

You should have been here 6 months or a year ago. I guess the Sony faithful feel justified and even vindicated getting their own back after 3 years of getting bashed. They tried to kill PS3 before it was even born. At least the Sony fans had time to look at X360 before deciding whether they lked it or not.

C'mon guys, credit where its due. Sure they probably didn't have that much stock, but still, they released a game apparently alot want and it sells systems.

Sony needs to do the same. I'm at a loss myself cos I dont know what apppeals to Japanese anymore aside from RPG's.

Used to be they liked all sorts of good games but everythings Wii and DS shovelware now. I say if thats what they like, let them have it, but its sad when good games keep coming out on PS3 and even Xbox and they aren't interested because you dont wave your arms around like a seagull chasing a chip.

Oh yeah, M$ better hurry with the new shippment before the buzz wears off. Its not gonna last forever, so cash in now.

I disagree...since SE have been lying about FF13 PS3 exclusive for past 2 years. I believe majority of JP FF fan already have PS3.

So X360 need to rely on coming up title such as IU and LR to continue the momentum of sales, and don't worry I believe MS is ready to ship more to JP.

The best part will be when the numbers come in and it shows the ammount "really" sold opposed to the news of it being just "sold out" Kotaku hangs themselves time and time again and people still go back to them.

On a side note, Microsoft is trying to garner a wii like bizz here and it's going to backfire on them big time. Wait and see. they'll ship 50,000 units and only sell through 20,000, but this will get them through the christmas rush.

im sick of hearing all this crap about how well 360 is doing in japan. ive lived in japan for 2 years and my japanese friends who ARE gamers, dont even know much about the system. its all about the wii, ds, psp and ps3 is catching on. enough said about this. im not a fanboy either, i just need to get this out. im not sure what microsoft is doing but it really is sad that htere feeding this info to the american public...

About time too, the world realizes the number one gaming console is the 360.

Nearly 2 years after the PS3's release worldwide and the 360 that was released a whole year before hand still has the best games, the best graphics, the best online service, the best retro download service, you cant even download a single HD movie on PS3's crappy network.

They call it an HD console, yet their flagship title renders in 720p, far from true HD. I played MGS4 and it's cut scenes same as usual. What a load of rubbish Sony!!

Still no official headset for the PS3, and these idiots only just got rumble into their pads LOL, so now rumble isnt last gen eh Sony?

Still, I look forward to Home, I hear it's only been delayed till 2014 now guys!! Cool!!

when 360 launched it was almost impossible to find one. when PS3 launched they couldn't be given away. a good console is nothing without good games no matter how great the graphics are. thats all PS3 has "PRETTY" crappy games!
