Microsoft wants floppy bodies 'perpetually'

Destructoid writes: "According to Develop, Microsoft Game Studios and Havok have signed a 'perpetual licensing agreement' to ensure that Microsoft and its partners have access to flying trash cans, floppy bodies, and clipping issues for eternity. It is being described as a 'unique deal,' but real specifics including exclusivity have not been discussed openly as of yet. The best part of the deal is that Microsoft will be able to utilize Havok's upcoming "Havok Cloth" product, which is sure to strike fear into both Sony and Nintendo's hearts.

If anything, this ensures that the random acts of physics-based hilarity in Microsoft Game Studio's games will perpetually continue. The Havok engine and I have a close relationship. Ever since the first time I placed a grenade on a dead body in Halo 2, I have had held the firm belief that nothing in videogame history could come close to the beauty of watching a corpse bounce between buildings and through a teleporter.

Just as an interesting tidbit, among the official upcoming games list on Havok's website is Alan Wake. After a bit of prying, I found out that Remedy is using a secret engine called "Havok Disappearing." Apparently, the engine allows developers to cloak their titles from public view and break console launch release dates."

sony fans vs ms fans round 5003 coming up

Edit- I will say this much though, I see no reason to report this given how much crap goes on here. And to the person directly below me, you yourself have a lot of nerve to report that comment on account that you yourself do MUCH of the same thing

Like someone said in another thread. There is no difference between the Open Zone and Gamer Zone except the fanboys are nicer.

Totally uncalled for #1 and reported as SPAM.

Tommorow: Microsoft has bought the exclusive rights for real time eyelash swaying. This means that the characters head hair won't be the only thing moving when wind is blowing. Microsoft has also announced today a timed exclusive agreement for nipple stiffening.

what are you talking about?

it isn't anything about being creative...havok is a TOOL

as stated above all this means if you get a MS dev kit...the havok physics tools are included

it applies weight and different properties to 3d objects and environments to make them react realistically...or as unrealistically as the dev wishes

9 - MS paid 50 million for GTA4 DLC.
if they spent that money on creating their own engine they wouldn't have to resort to these stupid deals. I mean Sony spend 20 million on Killzone 2 engine that they could use for other 1st party games down the line.

I can only conclude from this that MS don't have talent to create their own stuff.

Most sony devs dont use Havok physics any how. I believe they are created but this is just MS being themselves again.

EDIT: Forgot about the wee wii, I dont think they use or even need any type of realistic physics system, I dont know if stars count in the deal, or bricks in the agreement.

Oh ya and if im not mistaken the card in the PS3 is a Nvidia, sony could work with them to get some PhysX action.

WAIT A MINUTE....What about MS and PhysX dont like majority of the 360 games use the unreal engine? Maybe that might be a "unforeseen" problem xD

i'm glad n4g is filled with the uninformed

go look around the havok website and understand what it is exactly and read the article to understand what exactly microsoft paid for

http://www.havok.com/

and note...many ps3 games use havok and will continue to, its included in 360 dev kits so the dev doesn't have to buy it extra

several sony touted AAA titles use havok like motorstorm and heavenly sword both use havok

not to mention big multiplatforms like bioshock and GRAW2

and to the person who said about unreal engine...unreal engine is a game engine, havok is a physic library...the 2 are used together, the integrated physics in UE3 are PhysX by Nvidia, but anything that is compatible with your animation package can pretty much be plugged in

several ue3 games use havok

havok also can be used in conjunction with the euphoria engine which is happening in the force unleashed

i have used havok many times and it is a great tool, makes life easier and microsoft is just making things easier for their developers

15 - Bubs to you Outlawlife
For a reasonable explanation of what this acquisition really means. Its nice to read something that makes some sense and logic among a whole lot of garbage. I guess it´s a lot easier to just say: MS is spending money in bullsh1t than actually make some research to realise they are just granting their developers more tools.
