I got to say I wasnt that impressed with what I saw on the gamespot demo. Perhaps I am a bit harsh but something just seemed off...maybe graphics blurr effect they had going on, maybe the music from the drone thing, maybe the flat green interface, maybe the way over the top death animation (the guy gets shot in the head and all his limbs pop off, WTF?). I loved oblivion so I pretty much have to get this, but I am not as excited about it as I am about a lot of other games.

I'm really impressed, we've both played oblivion and know that oblivion's fun runs much deeper than initial impressions. The video demo's i was too impressed by, but i've been listening to podcasts from 1up and ign about the Fallout demo and they say that it was amazing, and that in half an hour each of them had a totally different and amazing experience they took away, and they had that within just one hour, oh and the extreme violence isnt neccesary its just a perk your character can get if you want to see extreme gore and dismemberment.

1.2 - the game looks good but
i didn't like how when the guy used the sniper rifle and shot someone in the head, the whole body exploded.

other than that, i can't wait. it'll be my first Fallout game so i'm hoping it'll be better than Oblivion (hated that game).

I don't know how they should have made the V.A.T.S system in another way... I think they managed to get the old fallout style and the new 3D setup very well together.

Anyhow after fallout 3 is done I would love for bethesda to make an MMORPG and as it's thier first one Blizzard could help em do it. That result would be unbeliveable.

1.4 - I agree Fallout didn't impress
Everyone was going crazy for it but the game graphics look like crap. The animation was lame and just didn't draw me in. But hey to each his own and that's my opinion.

2 - I wasnt very impressed either...
... especially the gameplay and the way the camera cuts to and from the action (hard to explain), seemed a bit iffy.

I hope it will be better that I expect, and previews so far are pretty positive about the game... but still... we'll have to wait and see.

2.1 - Well the camera is part of the VATS system and
is a ode to the older games. You don't have to use vats at all and can play the whole game as a 1st person shooter.

3 - Not Impressed At All
Put me in the subset of those who think that a true Fallout Successor should be turn based and more heavily RPG then Combat.
I tried to give it props - it looks fantastic but it's not Fallout 3 its just a shooter set in the fallout universe.

Comparing Fallout 3 to Haze and Lair is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Fallout has just a wee bit, ok tons more depth to it than Haze and Lair combined.

I think the game could very well be incredible. I got sucked into oblivion (just another hack and slash set in the TES universe, eh JoeIR?) quite the thing. I can imagine that a oblivion style FPS/TPS/TB game with deep background will be quite amazing.

(yes that's first person shooter, third person shooter and turn based(?) (VATS))

I have no doubt it will get some great success , however i do not like seeing fallout turned into a mod for a game i do not like to begin with : oblivion .

I have now zero confidence in bethesda's abilities to tell a decent story and set a proper mood ... i just know that obviously you'll be free , but fear that as usual , they'll toward pointless free roaming without substance, unlike bethesda own's old titles , bioware's baldur's , or the old fallout titles .

I agree, i miss the old look and feel of the games but as MK Red once told me "Enjoy it for what it is a PAFPS(Post Appocolyptic First Person Shooter), it'll still be great just different." Or something like that lol

Thanks Relcom :)
Most of us did enjoy the first spin-off, Fallout Tactics. This game is in its heart, just another spin-off. Fallout FPS! A Post Nuclear First Person Shooter. Fallout 3 was Van Buren and is now gone.

8 - Looks good
Eagerly anticipating Fallout 3. Looks pretty awesome so far, and it should have a ridiculous amount of depth.

As a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I can't help but hope that maybe we'll get lucky and Bethesda will put some of this experience with location specific damage, gore, and ranged combat into the next Elder Scrolls game.

I think it would be cool has hell to have a V.A.T.S. like system for the ranged combat in TES 5. Can you imagine, a bandit charges you so you hit the V.A.T.S. button and put an arrow into his kneecap.

Some gore would be nice too...not over the top like in Fallout, but I'm swinging a huge freaking broadsword, you telling me that's not going to take off an arm or two.

I agree, I dont understand the blow up with the sniper shot.

I dont think your supposed to be impressed with pausing, its just another way to play that in some ways apparently pays homage to the original turn based game.

Shooting teddy bears, yeah I dont get the appeal of that either but I guess people like to throw crp around

I dont really see any false hype, I think people have a legitimate reason to be hyped about this game (open world shooter not unlike Daggerfall, Morrowind or Oblivion). For me I just wasnt as excited by this first look as I thought I would be. Other games have wet my appetite better, but it was only a first look and its possible that this game will quench my game hunger better then all the ones that had that sweet first taste. Only time will tell. I am looking forward to playing the game to find out.

BTW, How does it copy bioshock, exactly?

The whole "shooting the guy in the head and his whole body blows up" thing is the result of a perk you can add to your character to increase the amount of gore to ridiculous levels. It's called the Bloody Mess perk, and it's completely optional.

i was left unimpressed. it wasn't what i expected. the greeen screen, the cheesy band music. and the nuke weapon seems to make it too easy to get out of a tough situatin. and what was up with 1 bullet from a rifle making a whole body explode? i was planning on getting this but now i'll pass. i can always go back to oblivion whenever i want. as far as when fallout releases; i'm gonna pass. i'll be playing LBP, bioshock, socom, and resistance.

I was very excited about this title, but after seeing the gameplay models... well am not that keen on the looks of the game, and whats with the dismemberment perk!!! Couldn't they have made the game without those bizarre perks!

I too fall under the category of being underwhelmed.

The VATS system thing looks like a sorry excuse for not aiming yourself.

I mean, if I play a shooter game. I want to aim myself and shoot. Not magically freeze time, and pick a location I want to be shot. That's just... weird to me.

oh and the graphics were also underwhelming. (don't give me that whole gameplay vs graphics thing, because I look at a game in all angles which includes graphics)

But hey if anybody's likes it, then power to yah.

The V.A.T.S. system is completely optional. If you want, you can go through and just manually free aim your way through the game like a standard shooter.

To all of you who say the headshot-that-blows-up-the-bod y is stupid, you must remember this is Fallout. There's a perk called "Bloody Mess" which, if you've played the previous games, you should be familiar with. It causes people to die in over-the-top bloody ways with virtually all killing shots.

Furthermore, the targeting system has been a part of Fallout since the beginning.
