Too Human Did Not Take Ten Years

"Too Human's release on the Xbox 360 is edging closer and closer and with that, TGR sat down with Silicon Knights CEO Denis Dyack at this year's E3 to talk about the upcoming release of Too Human. One assumption that everyone makes in regards of Too Human is how long it took to develop, starting on the Playstation 1 and finishing up on the Xbox 360 with ten years of development time. We thought it was about time we got to the bottom of this and asked Denis himself."

But people will still say it took 10 years, regardless.

That is the way this media is.

1.1 - very true
This is my comment in a previous Too Human article

"Too Human was originally in development for the PlayStation as an action game on multiple disks. It was shown at E3 1999, but shortly before its completion Nintendo announced an exclusive partnership with Silicon Knights(they became a second party dev studio for Nintendo), and the game was moved to the Nintendo GameCube in 2000.

A teaser trailer was shown at Space World 2000 showing what appeared to be a re-building of the PlayStation game. The game never surfaced.Development on Too Human then ceased and they went on to other projects namely Eternal darkness and Metal gear Solid: twin Snakes for the Nintendo Gamecube.

In 2005 Silicon Knights and Microsoft announced a partnership to develop Silicon knights trilogy for the 360.So as you can see 5 years of inactivity on Too Human because they where working on other projects.

And also, if Sony announces in 2015 that 8 Days and The getaway are being developed as launch games for the PS5 in 2019.Will you say that those games have been in development for 10 to 11 years come 2019?Would you choose to ignore the put on hold/cancellation date of 2008 to 2015?

Let me give you another example.lamborghini wanted to make a small supercar in 1990 to sit under the Diablo.they commissioned an Italian coach builder (i think it's Pininfarina, but not 100%) to design a concept car, which he did.

Funds became low for them and development stopped and recommenced when Audi took control of Lamborghini in 1999.The project was then revisited and the Gallardo was launched in 2003,completely different from the original proposal apart from the fact that it was an entry model with 4wd.If you ask lamborghini when development started they will tell you it started in 1999.

You can not add the years of inactivity as development time."

Yes, the demo was really great, and thanks to a guy called "highwayman" who showed me how to unlock the defender its even better than SK intended it to be. Thanks again man!

No game takes 10 years. They could not possibly have predicted the future limitations of hardware 10 years ago. The concept was thought up 10 years ago, sure, but actual full-time development could not properly have started until they knew what console it was going to be on and the specs of that console.

2.1 - Really?
Have you ever heard of Duke Nukem Forever? First release date was listed as 1997, still in development for possible release this holiday... its been an industry joke for, well, 10 years going on 11 now!

that's an interesting revelation, considering everyone says that it was in development for a decade.

Played the demo...loved it... and this story finally puts to rest the whole ten year rubish, the idea was there for 10 years but not development

Obviously they didn't have a 360 dev kit 10 years ago.

Even if it did take them ten years to develop they wouldn't come out and admit it openly. So instead of saying that it took them ten years to develop, say that it took them ten years to get their acts together and finally get the game out.

6.1 - Hey, dumb@$$-
Read the article. In that ten years they put out 2 critically acclaimed games on the Gamecube (Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes), while ALL DEVELOPMENT on Too Human was stopped completely. So how did it take them "10 years to get their act together?"

Since you are obviously very intelligent, made apparent by your amazing skill involving replacing the letter s with the @ symbol, I'm going to tread lightly here. It took them 10 years to get their act together because it was 10 years since the game was first pondered until it finally will be coming out. Don't be so offended by a comment that clearly has nothing to do with you personally. I'm sorry I so deeply insulted a company so much so that you felt you needed to lash out at someone.

7 - Kinda sad that...
A developer has to defend itself against idiots "Holy cow, game looks suxxors for 10 yr dev cycle!" And yes, anyone who thinks, claims, or tries to somehow support an arguement for this game being in DEVELOPMENT for 10 years is an idiot. Read the article. Being initialy announced/shown whatever 10 years ago doesn't mean the same as being in DEVELOPMENT for 10 years. Jeesh.

10 - Dylack himself said they have been working on Too human since the ps1 days.
I heard it come out of his own mouth. And another thing. They might have worked on other games as well, but it is possible to make 2 or 3 games at the same time. Just look at gearbox and treyarch. Same company but different teams, but still, the name of the company takes all of the heat, and if Dylack didnt want to get any critisism from anybody, then he should not have opened his mouth and hyped up the game like it was the next big thing.
