Xbox may make a move on Wii

timesonline writes "Nintendo's bestselling Wii may soon have a rival. Speculation is rife about a new motion-sensitive controller for the Microsoft Xbox 360. Like the Wii, this would enable gamers to control on-screen characters by moving their body rather than pressing buttons. More than 24m Wiis have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2006. So popular have games such as Wii tennis and boxing become that there has been a surge in injuries caused by overexertion or by players accidentally striking bystanders. An announcement about the Xbox is expected on www.e3expo.com - the website of E3, the Los Angeles gaming trade show. You heard it here first."

i think the the biggest rival the wii has is the ps3 with the motion control.

imean ps3 is the closet in sales to the wii, and software is rising alot

and i am dam sure ps3 have more casual gamer because all the people i kno with 360 only buys those hardcore games.

PS3 is in 3rd place. It barely outsells the xbox if at all. Neither is a threat to Wii but to think the PS3 has a chance is just ludicrous at this point. Even with MGS4 they couldnt beat the Wii or touch the lead the 360 has over them. Still 6 million behind.

MGS4 alone moved systems and is the first in a chain to anchor the PS3 as #1. Soon we will get the FPS of the year Resistance 2, LBP, FFXIII, White Knight Story, God Of War III, Killzone 2, among others.

Soon the Wii audience will realize that it's barriers have already been stretched an inch from snapping, and they'll need a true next-gen console. They'll look to the PS3 for the best, most reliable hardware, best games, free online service, large ever-growing community, feature-rich interface, and the fact that it's already more got more going for it than the Wii and 360 and hasn't even hit a fifth of it's lifespan yet.

Reason tells me that the XBOX 720 will only barely be more advanced than the PS3 already is.

Needs to concentrate on their core audience and on its competition with Sony instead of trying to "take on" Nintendo at this point. To fight a two-front war at is completely ludicrous for them considering that they are either losing to Sony (globally) or simply losing ground to Sony (in the U.S.). IMO they have no shot of getting the Wii crowd b/c Nintendo has tapped into something that I don't think MS (or Sony for that matter) really understand. Plus, the Wii may be selling a lot of systems, but how much software is it actually moving? For MS to make another HUGE capital investment on new hardware to shift their focus in such a completely different direction simply does not make sense to me. I think that MS is doing whatever it can to stay relevant right now for its stock value -- which, by the way has been stagnant for years (hence their recent over-bidding for Yahoo).

Look at microsoft track record in hardware...do you really think a wii like remote for the Xbox 360 will be reliable? Will it actually work better than the nintendo wiimote?

And you people know that Sony is working of the same thing...so the Xbox 360 will have competition from all sides...there is no way the Xbox can win this generation...its all down hill from last christmas...

The PS3 will surpase the Xbox 360 by this time next year...

It's too early to tell. Nobody knows how well it works and nobody knows what type of game support the thing will have. If they support it like they supported the Vision Camera with motion games I expect this to fizzle.

8 - Something funny...
I noticed that sony fans have the most loyalty to their console. The only bad thing about that is, I believe most of the fans do not know anything about the components installed inside the system. Yes they may know it has a CELL processor with 8 cores, a RSX chip, Blu-ray, and a HDD installed. But I wonder if the ones who truely defend the PS3 (you know the ones who probably got the ps3 logo tattooed on their body), Truely understand what all those pieces do? Do they know how many resistors are in the system? Do they know the system floating point? Which core receives information first? I'm just curious! If they love ps3 so much, you would think they should know this stuff right?

Any ps3 fanboys, should not respond to this cause it would be too obvious that you went and found the info to post it on here!

That was targeted at fanboys, not real gamers who are more comfortable with PS3 than the others!

Almost forgot, I still think a motion controller for a 360 isn't a good idea. The ps3 has it, and it isn't used in alot of games from what I hear. And the motion sensing thing is still more or less a novelty in my opinion, until it is fully realized. The Wii seemed like fun at first while playing. But lost its fun factor after a little while.

Your comment is one of stupidest ones i've read on N4G, why?, because you are trying way too hard to sound clever.
You need to look up the definition for "fanatic", those would be the only people who would concern themselves with those issues rather than what games & features a console has. Fanboys =/= fanatics, fanboys = people who love their choice of console to the point of blind loyalty and lack of knowledge about the actual facts.

All I can say is I wanna play Resident Evil 5 with the Wii control scheme like RE4 Wii Edition. If Microsoft could make a motion controller WITH the infrared pointer like the Wii remote, and Capcom tailored the RE5 control scheme to fit the new controller, they would kill two birds with one stone - The new Wii-like control scheme AND the 360's graphics (no need for a Wii port with dumbed-down graphics). Please Microsoft make this new controller! - or at the very least - Please Capcom port RE5 to Wii!

AH well I think if they can work on a motion controller like the Wii now and tweak it out over the enxt few years it would be a nice added extra controller to buy with the next system.....I believe in a xbox that would have 2 controllers...the pad and the motion sensing one

I do have a ps3 and no mgs4 didn't hit anywhere near where they projected it.I know in japan the wii still sold more units with no big titles releases then the ps3 did with mgs4.What happens in japan is sure to follow here in the states as well.I think imo only the only title thats really going push real hardware big time is ff13.Sony last 2 consuls got there biggest bost from se ff series.

I don't wonder when the wii going get its next big game.The wii got some great games comeing and 3rd partys are steping up games like The Conduit,Madworld,Tome Raider underworld,Red Steal 2,New zelda going happen at some point,Force unleashed yes wii,Megaman old school 2D,Finel Fantasy crystal bearers,Sadness if thats really true.Thats just some games off the top of my head.I'm sure there alot i'm forgeting.You guys say nintendo has already played there hand this year but what about star fox,f-zero,DK,Eternal darkness yes nintendo owns the rights along with goldensun.Nintendo is huge with over 30 in house delopment teams.There lots of games comeing and alot already out.deadly creatures looks good new fatalframe made with nintendo help looks great.I just hope nintendo inproves there online.
