PSXExtreme Editorial: "Why I Prefer Sony Controllers"

PSXExtreme writes: "You know, when I first laid eyes on the original PlayStation controller almost 13 years ago, I wasn't too impressed. I thought Sony had decided to sacrifice practicality and comfort for this sleek, futuristic look. I thought the SNES still had the best controller of all time (and ironically enough, the N64 had the worst by far), and I wasn't too keen on trying out that new fandangled Sony machine. I just didn't have a whole lot of faith in that gamepad."

It all depends on what you grew up playing are used too
Then again that's not 100% true either

I play better at COD4 with a 360 controller but I mess up the buttons for the grenades alot

I find it easier to play with ps3 controller since I've played ps3 more but have played alot of 360 with my friends too

btw I like how you said "personally" instead of "the ps3 controller sucks because"
It gives you more credibility and proves your not a fanboy

There's two things I don't like about the 360 controller, the first is the DPad (which sucks, I'm one of those people who likes using the DPad for Racing games (GT5P), rather than the analog sticks), and secondly the analog sticks are not sensitive enough.

I don't know if it's just because I'm used to the PS3 controller, but it is a lot more sensitive (which is useful in some games). PS3 controller is good for most games, 360 controller is good for FPS/Racing (if you don't use the DPad like me)

I'm the opposite, well kinda
My dualshock control isn't sensitive whatsoever (but my sixaxis are) and I found my friends 360 controllers overly sensitive, that it makes it hard to aim for me
Then again it's all about how the controller was made and what sensitivity you prefer

use 360's triggers, ps3's d-pad, ps3's R1 and L1, and 360's analog and I'm guud.

I know what you are saying, but it came from a legit site. So it can be posted here. Wit that said, there is nothing really shocking about this article. The guy who wrote this article works for a playstation magazine and would have lost his job if he would have said he prefers an Xbox controller.

Back on topic, it boils down to what you prefer. I do not like the trigger button on the PS3 controller, but thats about it. I am totally loving my new dual shock with rumble. The 360 has in my opinion made a really nice controller, arguable one of the best. And it's a lot better than the original Xbox controller. :)

I like how the controller feels natural in your hand but when I start playing my hand always slides down to where the analog stick would've on the ps3 controller

4 - The 360 controller only feels right when
You're playing an FPS. In fact, the 360 controller is probably the best for FPS.

Other than, I prefer Sony Controllers for RPG's/Action. They're just more compact, and feel more natural.

Although, I miss the gamecube controller. Now there was a f'ing awesome controller. It Fit Right into your hand so snug, and warm :D

In due time the PS3 will start to get some RPG's. Yeah they are basically the same controller as the PS2's, but hey if it's good then why change it. Personally I still have not gotten use to the feel. Like I said it boils down to what you are used to and prefer.

5 - I never thought about controllers...
I think they're kind of the same since they all have similar buttons in the same places. Oh, wait. PS3 has motion controls, right? I'm going to say PS3 then.

It doesn't matter to me. It just sucks switching console's and forgetting button changes. Its not so much the sticks positions that bug me its the triggers to bumpers differences.

8 - This article is stupid, its a a preference

9 - The original "Duke" controller for Xbox is my personal favorite.
I have large hands and that controller fit just right. Hated the "jelly bean" buttons though. The second biggest reason that I don't own a PS3 yet is that I am not looking forward to the hand cramps that I get from the PS controllers(Stupid tiny hand people). Can you use a wired 360 controller on the ps3 by plugging it in a USB port? If so I'll be in gaming heaven, after a price drop and a few more good exclusives that interest me that is.

No you can nouse a Xbox controller just by plugging it into a PS3 USB port, sorry. So you love those big behemonths controllers. I had a friend that was 6"10 and he liked the Xbox controllers. I have 2 or threee of the old controllers sitting around if you want them, but shipping will be expensive, LOL. Just messing, but like I said it all depends on what each person prefers.

Game on...

Good article because the writer is honest that it's just personal preference. And the analog on 360 is great for FPS (it's rare that I wish I had the precision of a mouse).

The thing of note, however, is that it seems that the PS3 tends to attract a crowd that clings to "the good ol' days", and thus sticks to the controller specifically because they're used to it. The author shows this when he talks about his reluctance to change to a new controller after the SNES (which was a fun controller, but clearly unfit for 3D gaming). I used to be more like that when I was younger, but I guess I've gotten more open to change since then.

As for my preference, I used the PS2 controller a lot and it hurt my hands really badly. It's just too small, with the sticks too close together, and I hate the R1/2 and L1/2 buttons. Assumedly the PS3 controller would be nearly the same experience for me. The original xbox controller also sucked. The 360 controller however seems to fit my hands perfectly.

13 - Nostalgic Controllers
Well, both controllers have their strengths and weaknesses depending on the type of game. I quite liked the Dreamcast controller. Best ever has to be either the original Atari VCS controller, great for racking up high scores on Pac Kong, or a Competition Pro for the C64. Impossible Mission here I come, stay a while, stay forever!! Damn, do I sound old.

Yeah.. you're right Bubble Buddy.

"Use 360's triggers, ps3's d-pad, ps3's R1 and L1, and 360's analog and I'm guud."

The PS3 triggers suck, 360's is definitely better. The PS3 D-Pad is better then the 360's. Try playing SF II or any fighting take with the 360 D-Pad. Not too good. The PS3's R1 & L1 buttons are wider then the 360's and easier to press. M$ should make those R1 & L1 buttons a little wider and they would be good. Both analog sticks for the PS3 and 360 are decent for me. The 360's is a bit more sensitive and seem to work better for FPS games. As for the buttons, I like the 360's because they are higher up, but what I don't like is they are too close to the "start & select" buttons. I a heated games, I find myself pushing start a lot and pausing the game. The start - select buttons need to be higher up or somewhere else entirely. The PS3 buttons are nice, but a bit to squishy. They need some more give. Overall I like the 360 controller better, because it's more comfortable and the size is perfect for my hands. The PS3 controller is a little too small. I don't know how a larger man like say Kevin Garnett or The Big Show could ever use a PS3 controller. It would be awkward.

The Dualshock 3/6 Axis controller is still Last generation no matter what anyone says. 6 Axis is nice, but the controls are Last Gen.

I hate the cross layout on the pad... Why are they separated from eachother? Too much space for misclicks on fighting games. Hate them.
