It's news because it's very unusual 360 games come on more than one disc.

No, it's news because it only uses 2 discs while the title says infinite.

1.3 - LMAO! WHAT?!
It's a game that uses cell shading type graphics. This must mean the game is very long in length or they're trying to not exclude those with no HDD in their 360, which the latter is likely... but rotflmao at 2 discs for a cell shaded game though.

It's relevant because of the whole "Blu-Ray is needed for current gen games" argument. But I'm kinda glad that it is on two discs because atleast that means the game will be longer (than Too Human/Mass Effect), but it's also kinda annoying cos the graphics (in the recent gameplay video) aren't great.

But but but but.........

DVDs have enough space for current gen games!

All kidding aside, I'm not a RPG fan so this doesn't affect me at all. Truthfully, right now that's probably the only genre that will need more than 1 dvd

1.6 - why is this news
its not the first game ever to go multi disc, i believe ff7, was more than two...and theirs a very large list, so who cares, its two discs, what, this shocking 2 discs gonna make MS bring blu ray to 360, it would be a big mistake on MS part if they did, if you think about it, devs start making 360 games that use blu ray disc, which means anyone wanting to play the game would have to either go buy another 360 with blu ray, or possibly an add-on blu ray drive, and im sure you all love buying add ons.. in the end, it would be a big slap in the face to all 360 users... this is console gaming, not pc....so when the ps3 gets a game thats 2 discs, whats gonna happen then..

i never said ff7 was on ps3, i was just giving an example of a game that was multi disc, dunno why people are making a big stink about an 360 game going 2 disc..

Does Forza 3 and MLB 2k8 ring any bells?

At the end of the day, its an RPG, so i can take that into consideration

To me anyways it's the fact that it's guaranteeing linear play making the game design limited. They have two choices make a rich looking game on one disc or tone down everything so it can be on two discs. So far I haven't seen a beautiful looking game that runs on two or more discs. Mass Effect is one disc and so is Bioshock.

SqEx owns the IP. Microsoft originally wanted to publish the game and obtain the IP rights but SqEx backed out and decided to publish the game themselves. They essentially left the door open for a PS3 version when the game inevitably underperforms on the 360 platform.

Good work Jenzo. Last time i checked i really enjoyed playing Baldur's Gate 2 back in the day on PC. That was on 5 discs i believe and that wasn't a pain in the butt. 2 DVDs is definitely ok.

as long as it plays as long as its hd I could care less if its on 5 discs, 1 blu-ray or 1000 VHS tapes! ok I guess I'd care about the VHS tapes.

5.2 - which would you rather have...
a 15 minute install or a 10 second disc change? both formats have their drawbacks. the blu-ray is too slow to run straight from the disc without an install and the dvd doesn't have enough space and requires multiple discs for 2 games so far this generation.

anyway, who cares. I find it funny that Sony fanboys make a disc change such a big deal. shows us how desperate they are for relevance. I guess they just like to wait: wait while their games install, wait for their PSN firmware updates, wait for their franchise titles, wait for the cows to come home, etc. gives them a lot of time to troll N4G forums.

It's because 360 fanboys kept saying 'You don't need bluray!!!!' When cleary in this situation you do. No it's not that big of a deal and a 10 second disk change isn't much to cry about, but it's still an annoyance and still shouldn't be happening.

6 - I just finished "Lost Odyssey" a month ago on 4-DVD's(Best Jrpg for me This Gen)
I've heard people throwing that quote "Making a Mountain out of an Ant Hill about PS3 firmware issues.

I would like to say the same about Changing Disc and DVD9.

Playing MGS4 made me realize how changing a disc 3 times, probably took less than 4 Minutes after 135 hrs I poured into Lost Odyssey and the installs in MGS4...well lets not get into that.

Oh yeah I play my Jrpgs, single Pass through and thoroughly.(Too many games and no time to go back)

No biggie..as long as the game is great, I have a high tolerance and I'm not that Lazy. Some of the best franchised games and RPG's have not been surpassed and was on Multiple Disc.(Did it matter if the game was tight)

6.2 - well ...
Think about it though Kat .. good to debate with you again. Firmware issues can be resolved. Changing Discs and the limitation with DVD9 can not. I do agree that two discs is no big deal. Even 4 discs are no big deal. Whats the breaking point? 6, 8, 10 discs? When looking at the opposite end of the spectrum, I do agree that HD installations are getting a little out of hand. While I do see the benefit, its become a standard for some of the more high profile games. I hope that future PS3 games do not require such lofty HD requirements. Even that is a work in progress with developers. Can you say the same for space requirements for future games? This is the Xbox 360 achilles heel.

6.3 - Welcome back sajj316 - , it says here I last PMed ya 395 days ago..lol
How was your vaca from the dark pits/cespools of n4g?

On topic:

Well only time will tell if games really get up to 5-10 DVDs. I think that would be a little of an exaggeration with 10 DVD's though. We are totally neglecting "compression technologies/techniques".

What is it, are we really talking about here.

(Hrs put into a game)
(Hrs it takes to complete)
(Amount of content stored on the disc as opposed to one disc)
(Types of games that may require multiple disk)

-Lost Odyssey was around 80Hrs to complete with every things and such though I put much more into it, since I really like disk(4-disc game)

-Oblivion was a game you could put 100+ Hrs into and that was on 1 disk and the world was Huge(if you ask me).

1. Basically because a game is on the competition BD disc doesn't mean the Game will be any longer. Given them Examples.

2. Yeah you can store more content on bigger disk such as a BD but depending on the type of game, it will bear no difference in time played or length of game.(I have not seen it)

3. To tell you the truth, I think HD installs are going to be the trend. I do not think it is going to go away. The benefits out weight the extra work the devs could do to alleviate the installs all together or at least cut them down. It's a fact Storing texures and such on the HDD reaps benefits. (Take it from the PC-Model, it's noting new)

4. Can't you see that's the direction consoles are going, they are becoming like computers and accepting the same models. Just not scalable when a new GPU comes out..etc..lol

5. As for the Xbox 360 well, I ws reading somewhere that some game might require an install.(not sure if it was true), but it's wait to be seen with the HD-less 360 out there and what MS does with the production of it's games.(after all none of this effects me)

6. but the "space requirements for future games" could be 3-5 years from now. In 3 years the 360 will be like 7 years old. Sony plays to it's hardware lasting 10 years bu tMS plays to the latest technology every 5-7 years.

By that time you think we will not see a new Xbox 360 with 100GB Optical disc and 500GB HDD ?

6.4 - Well said Kewlkat007
NOOOOOO! Im gonna have to get up and changea disc instead of waiting 15 mins for a 4gig install or waiting 2-4 mins for an act/level to load ala Mgs4.

I think some Ps3 fans really want anything to justify chooisng a Ps3 over a 360 or reasons to not get a 360. Rrod is still brought up time and time again as well as dreaded mutli disc games.

I have had my 360 for a 1 1/2 years and no problems to date and with the 3 year warranty/new mother boards/chips this since late last year this is a thing of the past.

As for the disc space i have still not seen gaming wise why Br is needed or in fact better for games. The read times are just to slow to really push the advantage of having more capacity. Bigger disc size but less space on your hard drive due to installs or more waiting around for levels to load on to the Ps3 ram.

But i guess a fighting game/driving game may come out that shows us why Br is an advantage ie one disc necessary for these type of games. But so far although Gtp looks great the lack of crash damage and inability to run smoothly online not to mention barren enviroments(except london which can not be raced online) has not made a believer yet.

Both consoles this year are desirable but this is how i see it when cp the media used for each.

Disk size is only a problem with FMV which is why only RPG's have been multi disk games so far as it's hard to compress effectively.

If you go and watch the fable 2 docs one of them states that there compression technique they use compresses the raw data down to less than 1% of it's original size this has several advantages over disk size

1 the data streams from the disk 100x faster
2 the game world can be 100x more detailed
3 you can probably fit about 500gig on a dvd9

I dont see why people care about multi-disc games. I think Blu-Ray was a smart choice because eventually games will become huge and 4 discs is pushing it. I also think having more discs makes the game seem more worth my money. I used to think it was so cool having FFVIII on 4 discs.

9.2 - Games will be huge?
The era of huge games is long gone for the most part. For 50GBs of space MGS 4 got 10 hours of gameplay. 10-12 Hours is about as huge as it's going to get unless somebody comes up with a way to make development cheaper. Or EA stops paying overtime again. RPGs will be the only exception.

Didn't LO come on 4 discs? That was not all that lengthy and seeing as how this one is on two, would it be safe to presume that this game is a bit shorter?

10.1 - We can.'t assume anything if you have not played it..did you even play Lost Odyssey?
....Read my reply to sajj316 above and you'll see it all depends on the game.

How big and how open was oblivion and it came on 1 disc. I'm not sure what the average was for LO but I put lots of hours into it.

For an jRPG game beating the game without "sidequest" and "extra missions" and without acquiring every "item", "spells", and "magic", you could easily cut-down the length of time of play.

MGS4 is 50 Gigs(Un-compressed) and as you can see for the type of game it is, it can be beat in less then 10 hrs.

IT DEPENDS ON THE GAME.
