yeah after seeing them side by side you can tell that Gears 2 has alot more detail in the graphics and more color. It looks great. After playin Unreal Tournament 3 I noticed that Epic is using alot more color in there graphics and I like that better then the all grey and shiny graphics.

How can anyone look at these screen shots and not be some what concerned about the depth of view with the graphics in these screen captures? It looks like they are using some type of fogging technique in the background. Look at how much clearer the detail on buildings are off in a distance in the original Gears vs Gears 2.

How are you suppose to snipe if your field of view is muted? The character detail is significantly better in Gears 2 but I am concerned about the background. Or maybe it's just the time of day difference (dusk / overcast vs clear sunny day) in the screen shots making the background look foggy? Hopefully that is the reason.

Why are so many disagreeing with Power of Green?
All he has stated was that GOW 2 is looking better than Gow 1. So, folks are disagreeing with him? Are those of you who did blind? Perhaps you should invest in a pair of glasses. GoW 2 looks better, not dramatically, but better. Also this game is how many months away from being released. Epic still has got plenty of time to make the graphics look even better. This build we've been showed through these screen shots are an early build. I mean what developer shows off a final build this early into development.

This site loses more and more credibility each day thanks to the Sony fans.
I know that the Sony fans can plainly see that GoW 2 is much better looking than the first. It's sad....

The comments about Gears of War are right on target. There's improvements including increased texture detail & bump-mapping...the lighting is also better. These don't seem to be jaw-dropping improvements, but the original was already pretty darn good...nothing worth disagreeing with. (yes, I said darn, dag'nabbit!)

If your just disagreeing because you don't like Power of Green, or The Mart, or some other pseudonym then your becoming the FanBrat you hate.

There's a great way to prove the lighting and art direction are better in gears 2.

If you take the images in the screenshots into photoshop or gimp (just select copy and paste them to a new image. Make sure not to get the black edges between them) and look at the histograms for them, Gears 2 actually has one of the best histograms I've seen for any next gen game so far.

That doesn't mean it's good. It just means it's relatively high contrast, good color depth, and has a good lighting model.

both sides of the comparison show exactly the same level except with the aging effects in the 2nd. is this just some kind of tech demo or GeoW2 will use the exact same level as the 1st one??

The biggest updates over gears 1 is in interactivity. Through lower glitches, soft body physics, destructible environments, higher on screen character counts. These are all things you can't do justice to in a screenshot.

The fact that they can keep the quality up to par, and then add so much from a gameplay perspective is more than enough for me.

It would be awesome if the game looked a lot better, but, personally, I'm glad they decided to up gameplay over graphics this time around.

I think Power of green went from somewhere close to 6-9 bubbles to 3 bubbles in about 30 minutes a couple times. Not only do I not even know how that's possible without alts, but I've never seen that happen to a sony fan (I wasn't here when it was the same problem the other way around).

Either way, it's a crap tactic. I'm a little biased against sony fans for it because I've lost bubbles for saying things that are 100% fact from them. I understand it's happened both ways, right now it just happens to be tilted towards Sony moreso.

check this out, uncharted its a good game but honestly its not even worth renting it when you can beat it in 4-5 hours and what no multiplayer, come on.
Ok MGS4 its a great game or movie because you spend more time watching clips and briefing(thanks to that now I know how to cook over easy eggs)than playing the actual game. No co-op and online I havent even try it cause you have to sign-up with konami, fill up a form with all your info and ....waste of time. Talking about time I dont understand why if blue ray has so much space and they are even using a dual layer BRD in that game so then why so many game installs on the ps3 harddrive, its just a waste of space and time.
The other two games havent even come out so I cant comment about them but with the Haze experience the supposed Halo killer and knowing how they keep pushing the games back and back cause they cant figured out how to develop for the ps3 you can rest asure that GOW is the best choice and GOW2 will not dissapoint anyone.

MGS4 is more comparable to GeOW 1 in that it lacks realistic lighting, has an extremely limited color palette, and has flat, non-dynamic textures.

I've heard several comments like this so let's get this straight. This is a multiplayer map and NOT part of the single player. This is one of the popular maps from Gears1 that will make a return in Gears2. This is NOT single player screenshots.

There has been single player video released, it was very short but anyone who is familiar with Gears1 knows that it is a huge leap in graphics and action from the first one.

Also, the "orange/brown" color you describe is a different part of the day. This gives the impression of the sun going down and the glare thru the dust in the air.
