Gears of War... Game of the Year?

According to GameRankings.com, GOW is close to being placed in the top 10 highest rated games of all time. After taking the #1 spot on Xbox Live in only a week, and accolades coming from all of the critics, has the gaming community already found its Game of the Year?

If not, what else can compete? The newly released Wii? Or the PlayStation 3...

definitely for action TPS genre, but I would say Zelda should take game of the year. It has more depth to the game.

Gears will probably take is due to the number of copies it will sell.

that gears of war deserves game of the year because it is an original IP... zelda is another sequel (a brilliant sequel that deserves high accolades...) If anything I simply think its important for developers to focus on new stories and new ideas rather than put together another sequel, even if the sequels exceed the prior games (resident evil 4, devil may cry 3, and really.. any final fantasy are good examples.)

I think the best example of why we as a gaming community should stand up for original IP's are "dead rising," "gears of war," and "okami.." all games are unique and original in some way and we need to show support for creativity not just say something is GOTY because it has been delayed 3 years and contains some nostalgia and an installed fan base...

What about Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? Original? I think it's groundbreaking. GOW is a good game but not as inventive as Oblivion. And not as big. Oblivion deserves it.

Oh forget Zelda lol, I think GOW should win for what it brings I mean come on anybody can make another Zelda game with the same gameplay, Graphics, and puzzles that every Zelda has always had. Don't get me wrong Zelda is always a sick game but honeslty GOW I think is a big jump in alot of ways, like obviously graphics, the way the cover is used etc...I don't know Zelda is probably going to win tho just for the fact that's it's Zelda and Nintendo has that new controller, oh well I certainly know GOW is my GOTY

yah considering resistance is getting 88% on average that's out of the game of the year stuff.

considering zelda is sequel it's fairly doubtful, but still possible. In my opinion Gears deserves it because of its innovation and best graphics of this year.

What about Guitar Hero 2. The original got a bunch of runner ups last year, and the sequel is much better. The thing going against that is the lack of novelty this time around though.

9 - GOW is the GOTY!

No I haven't played Zelda, and I'm sure just like the others that its great.....but GOW is just too much fun. Yeah, its short on story, but if you just want a game that you can sit down, pick up the controller and immediately become emmersed in a action packed fun gameplay experience then this is the game for you. Seriously, I have alot of 360 games and they were great, but GOW is the only game that I can't stop playing....the online co-op (hardcore and insane) is like f-king crack (in a good way). Honestly having played alot of GOW lately the only "glaring" negative that I have with the game was that the campaign was TOO DAMM SHORT...General RAAM was awesome, but it just left me wanting more, oh well now I just get my fix online!
