At the San Francisco Playstation store and home of the official US launch for the Playstation 3 PCGAMER were there to represent the PC gaming community and to carry out a mission to convert one diehard PS3 fan to PC gaming.

PCGAMER had brought with them a $7500 gaming rig that they intended to give away to one of the gamers standing in line for a PS3. The catch? You have to sign a legally-binding contract certifying that you will never, ever, buy a PS3.

If they had gave him a XBOX 360 with Gears of War, Viva Piniata, Call of Duty 3 (the equivalent of Resistance but then without the stupid aliens in WWII setting) he would be convinced without even needing to sign any contract.

Especially when they showed him COD3 being choppy on the PS3 and RR7 being less version compared to RR6 from a year ago on the 360

COD3 on the 360 compared to the PS3 version.

COD3 on 360: 60 fps looking great
COD3 on PS3: 30 fps with slowdowns where it get choppy and less graphical then the 360 version

Let us not speak about COD3 being better then Resistance. Aliens in WWII is not so cool as it seems

And Viva Piniata and Gears of War are this Christmas not to be surpassed by anything on the PS3 for sure.

You're so wrong. The 360 GPU is stronger then the PS3 GPU spec's cover up like the supercharged Wii/Gamecube. And in games it's foremost about the GPU

Forget it. Ridddgeeee Racceerrrr 7 on PS3 is worse in graphics then RR6 on 360 from a year ago.

It's pathetic. Only Resistance is reasonable. But then still. The killer app this Christmas is Gears of War. Nothing else out there like it

Thing is,after 2 years that PC will be outdated and too slow to run the latest games.Have he sticked with a PS3 he would've been waxed for the next 6 years.He probably will be buying a 360 for his console fix now.

Not true at all. The specs in that PC are so new most games aren't developed for it yet. In most cases all you need to do is just upgrade the video card. There are many games on PC's still playing with P4's. He will be able to game with this system for at least the next 3 to 4 years easy.

Was this guy really a "die hard fan"? Or was he there just to make a quick buck. Do you think he will still be playing on that PC in 6 years? I really doubt it. PS3 fans will still be playing with their systems, while that PC sits in the bargin bin. And sorry Mart, Xbox 360 had it's chance already.

Funny, I'm sure you both can justify buying the ps3 right now with it's incredible next gen line-up. The ps3 should be advertised as a blu-ray player with gaming as a minor feaure.

Seriously, I was at Best Buy last night checking out the PS3 they had there and watching the campers (they had Motorstorm demo up) and I kept asking everyone that came by why they were checking the PS3 out and why they were going to purchase it (if they had plans to). Suprisingly, everyone mentioned Blu-Ray almost instantly. So my assumptions were correct for the most part that people would split the PS3's pricing as $300 for games console and $300 for Blu-Ray player.

This might only be true in my area, but I asked a good 50 people, so it couldn't be too far from something solid. A great deal of people see the PS3 as a good deal (including myself because I don't even have a DVD player anymore).

I did have ONE guy and his friend who both owned 360's and loved them to death, but were planning on buying the PS3 because of Blu-Ray. I was had to ask them if they were serious because of the add-on, but they wanted the PS3 games as well as 360, so they weren't going to bother with HD-DVD and the add-on, but go with the built-in Blu-Ray in the PS3 so they can get the best of both consoles.

Pretty good idea if you like games, if you ask me.

ps3 is a deal and it has a lot of potential. I plan on buying a ps3 when they are easily available. I would never buy the hd-dvd add on because it really isn't doing much for me. I want the ps3 for the games it will have later on I think that is the reason why it's easier for me to wait. It's just really pathetic that some people just hate other consoles because it's not their favorite.

Yeah, for sure Eating Lightning. Lots of fanatics here, though. I didn't intend to call you out or anything, just wanted to throw in something I found interesting and was my own experience.

Maybe what is helping the PS3 with Blu-Ray is the fact that they were successful with DVD in the PS2 and people think that the new Blu-Ray is the thing to go with. It makes sense how people could think like that.

THWIP, I am not much of a fan of forced product myself but I have gone out and seen some things that I like and won't mind paying extra for them. Other people just go out and buy because of hearsay and rumor, but I can honestly say I have done my homework and won't be disappointed by my decisions. I do admire Sony for taking such a risk, though, regardless if they succeed or fail. They introduced some really new stuff with the PS3 and it is a HUGE risk. Everything could fail or everything could be a success... I am not expecting mediocrity with this system. Hit or miss.

Sorry for the double post before, didn't catch it while I could still edit. Whatever, though.

I think its retarded how everything ends in an argument concerning the 360-ps3, I think for at least this article we should focus on how pathetic PC gaming is, rather than trying to pinpoint one of the consoles, because face it, PC gaming is boring and we shouldn't use a keyboard to do anything other then type. I never understood PC games even came close to console games. I mean, when was the last time you had not just fun, but an awesome time playing a PC game? I liked playing Roller Coaster Tycoon and WoW because they were fun and addicting, sure, but only on the consoles will you find unique, creative, blockbuster hits and quite frankly better graphics. Even if your computer has such and such graphics card or whatever, the game will only look as good as its max settings. And the worst looking 360 games that I've played were the ones that derived from PC games, ported, upgraded, or whatever, bottom line is that they don't look as good or play as well as the games that are built specifically for consoles. Just be happy we have consoles becasue if gaming were only on PC, my life would be a little emptier.

RTS on consoles still don’t compare to those on PC (Mouse and Keyboard). MMORPG’s haven’t done to well on consoles. Flight Simulator games. Some games just play better with a standard Mouse and Keyboard and if you find one that doesn’t you can always pick up a game pad or joy stick.

The graphics are generally better then what can be offered on a Console (yes I know there are a few crappy looking PC games.)

Next you don’t have all the political drama you have with consoles, console companies normally don’t have a problem releasing software on the PC. You also don’t have to pay the mark up on accessories.

If I recall everyone has been waiting for the PS3 so they can compare it to the Xbox 360 and play and stop watching CGI about what the system could do. If you will read most of the reviews PS3 isn’t stacking up to the competition even in Japan. Please don’t bring up the success of the PS2 because the PS3 isn’t selling as well as the PS2.Yes, we all know about the delays with the BLU-RAY. Well if they can’t build the thing how do they expect to sell it? Wait I know IOU’s. Who ever thought of that is a genius.

As for games currently out on both platforms Xbox 360 and PS3, well let’s just say the PS3 isn’t showing how the Next Generation of gamming has started with them releasing the PS3. When Microsoft said the best thing for them would be for Sony to release the PS3. As you can see from all the reviews of the games for the PS3 they aren’t stacking up. The best game to date on the PS3 is RFOM which doesn’t compare to COD3 in graphics. As for the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen then that’s been said, I don’t buy that, it’s about what’s out now. What are we going to do ask Microsoft to stop producing games so Sony can catch up and be on the same generation as MS games? Get realistic, and by the time everyone is expecting Sony to catch up, the next Console is going to be here (MS has already started working on the next one.) Face it if they are behind a Generation now how do they catch up? My guess is they don’t and another reason why next Gen doesn’t count is because Dev’s had extra time on the PS3 to work on the games.

Next has anyone seen the list of games for 07 PS3? The majority of the games are coming out cross platform. Don’t get me wrong the PS3 has a couple of exclusives I could see playing FFXIII, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, DMC4 and Warhawk. Only 3 of those games I could see driving sells numbers and that FFXIII, MGS4, DMC4. Exclusives and game library help sell consoles and this time around Sony seems a little short on that end of the stick. I like a lot of people find it very hard to justify paying an extra 200 dollars for a system where many of the games are cross platform, not only that the games on cheaper system (Xbox 360) are getting better reviews. Not only that it seems the Xbox 360 seems to have a much larger list of Exclusives and games in general.

You can dismiss everything I said but one fact will hold true, MS has more consoles on the market and has deep pockets. Developers follow the console with the larger demographics. The more consoles that are in consumers hands the greater chances a developer has to make profit and with MS deep pockets it can only help but sweeten deals. Xbox 360 hasn’t lost they are just getting started and Sony will be busy trying to play catch up I mean IOU.

PC gaming has been dying the last couple years, because costs of video cards and multicore processors have be quite expensive. First you'd have to buy a dual or quad sli which would run you at least 700, than the rest for another 700 or so.

People have learned it's not worth it and that's why it's been in decline. Cause having small incrimental upgrades to render a few more frame rates drains your pockets like nothing else.

Now if your obsessed with upgrading and pass the time with stuff like that, and have a big account or fetish for your PC it's worth it to you. But for most people a 400-600 dollar console for very similar graphics and exclusive games is worth it. And those saying you have to buy a HDTV, I'm using my 360 on my monitor in 1080p right now through the 360 vga. AND IT'S GORGEOUS.
