Microsoft: GTA IV DLC still on track for beginning of "fall 2008?

Talking with videogaming247.com, a Microsoft spokesman said that the company's stance on the release-timing of Grand Theft Auto IV's exclusive DLC remains unchanged.

The site was told in an email this morning, "Comment from us stays at: 'The first of the Xbox 360 exclusive "Grand Theft Auto IV" episodes will be available beginning fall 2008.'"

ummm when does that translate to 'released beginning of fall 2008'. That was never said. Fall 2008 can be as early as end of august and as late as early November. Is this really news?

Rockstar, the company that is actually developing the DLC and who stated yesterday it would not come until the company's first quarter of 2009.

Or Microsoft, the company that will say anything when it feels it is losing its "momentum" to competing consoles.

I think I'll side with what Rockstar says on this subject.

2.6 - Everybody listen up! Take Two said Q1 of it's "Financial Year" 2009...
In Take Two's case Q1 2009 begins November 1st 2008 and ends January 31st 2009. It may be confusing but Microsoft and Take Two are in agreement, but they are talking in different languages (chronological as opposed to financial).

Expect to see the DLC leading up to or shortly after Christmas 2008.

Actually it should be Fiscal Year... not Financial year. Fiscal year starts October 1st. No push back... just clarification that it is coming out still in Autumn.

That is U.S. Government fiscal year. Where is this company operating out of?

Whoops... looks like Take Two has it's own company fiscal year starting November 1st. I sit corrected... but it is still Autumn.

Take Two is one of many game companies that set their own financial years to make their bottom lines look better.

Well that's not what Take Two are saying? Funny, either that's rubbish, or T2 keep us better informed than MS.

Interested to see what the content will be, it's going to have to be pretty special, I'm all but bored with GTA now so a few missions wont cut it. A tank might though ;)

Well if you read the statment they said the first of the dlc.... that's right the 'first' of it. So maybe in the early fall will be some little tidings to hold GTA players over till T2 finishes off the big dlc they pushed back

7 - There has to be some contractual bindings on Take two
Lawyers who make up these contracts wouldn't leave such an obvious lop hole. Especially, since take two wants to push it back just to make their financial statement look better. They came out and said that the content is on schedule they just want their books to look better and in January the income would make them look more profitable.

The publisher has delayed the DLC from fiscal Q4 2008 (August-October) to Q1 2009 (November-January) "in order to provide a better balance in Take-Two's release schedule," the publisher said in an earnings statement.

Take-Two CEO Ben Feder stressed during an earnings call that the delay wasn't due to any development challenges, rather it was implemented primarily to balance the publisher's portfolio.

8.2 - While I'll be getting Saints Row 2 on day one it won't have any impact on GTA IV DLC
GTA IV owns the sandbox genre everything else is automatically second place.

The first Saint's Row was a pretty good game... A lot better than anyone thought it would be but it couldn't hold GTA IV jockey shorts. Neither will part 2 although I'm still really looking forward to it because I love open world crime games.

No matter what the fairweather bandwagon haters say... GTA IV is by far the best open world game ever created.

MS sure paid a TON of money for the exclusive rights to this, yet I have never seen a commercial or advertisement ANYWHERE saying this. I only know about it because N4G.

oh yeah and we still get dlc on ps3 guys does anyone ever read press releases? rockstar has said on more than one occasion that there will be dlc for ps3 and x360. microsoft just gets diffrent stuff which effectively makes it's dlc exclusive.

The Q1 is from Nov 1, 08 - Jan 31, 2009. Hopefully this news will shut the idiots up who kept saying it won't be released until spring 2009. LOL!! People need to do some research before opening their mouths. People who don't care about DLC shouldn't bother posting about it. I don't post much about MGS4 because I could care less about the game right now. I do agree that M$ paid too much for this DLC. Rockstar would have probably done it for 1/2 that amount.

If the DLC is just additional content/items/missions, I don't expect it to do very well.
GTA did not have a shortage of things to do.
The WAY you do those things in the game is what is wrong with the it. Unless the DLC somehow makes major(ish) changes to the gameplay, count me out.

I honestly dont know how MS plans to make money on this DLC, 360 and PS3 owners will have so much better things to play by the time this comes out that people wont even remember GTA IV.. Games like Gears of war 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm,Socom,MGS4 and Little big planet.. This game got boring fast and i already sold mine on ebay
