Namco Bandai: Eternal Sonata PS3 "Japan only"

Namco Bandai US has told videogaming247 that as far as it's aware, the PS3 version of tri-Crescendo's JRPG Eternal Sonata won't make it out of Japan.

1.2 - Calm down peeps
Like when 2k was denying rumors about Bioshock. I'm sure Namco is in the same situation. They probably can't talk about a US version until after a certain time period. All part of taking MS's money.

that's all lovely and everything saint sony, but completely pointless considering this topic is about the playstation 3 version of the game.

I don't think anybody can blame chaosatom333 when he said: "Who gave them the idea that Americans not= RPG", for not making everything perfectly clear so that a person whose only interested in causing a bit of a stir up for the fanboys.

maybe he should have said:
What makes them think that American's that might possibly only own a PLaystation 3 and can't afford to buy an XBOX360 because they made their choice based upon their previous experiences and playstation's success of the first 2 systems, would not be not be at all interested in the RPG.

Kinda pointless comment considering Japan speaks Japanese. And understanding the language is pretty important in an RPG.

definitely unfortunate... guess I'll finally have to go buy the 360 version of Eternal Sonata since it's only $40. I was holding out and looking forward to getting it for my PS3 though.

we still have Disgaea 3, White Knight and a few others to look forward to though. ;)

Problem is, it's already been released in EU/US (albeit on 360) and no-one bought it. Maybe they don't want to make a further loss.

Shame really, as it's a great game that everyone should enjoy.

They probably think that 360 sales in America reflect that Americans aren't interested. When it's really just 360 owners -_- PS3 fanbase doesn't= 360 fanbase

Playstation owners buy jRPGs not XBOX owners! Of course that's just the stereotype.

Actually the belife is that...
PS3 owners don't by games....seeing that only Motorstorm, Resistance, GTA4 and Cod4 have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. You have 2 luanch titles and only 2 exceptional/hyped games selling major copies. MGS4 should be added to that list.

While 360 has many more titles hitting that mark. It's just too risky at this time to port this game. It's really not that great an rpg as there are no challenges in game. None! Evey none boss fight is over in 2 rounds and every boss fight last about 10 rounds. Not a tough RPG.

This is...terrible news. Then again, it hasn't been released yet in Japan, and if it does well in Japan it'll surely come here. And there's no reason for it to do poorly, as it did well there on the 360 and the PS3 version is the exact same with extras. And like JVIDICAN already said, there's probably going to be (I mean, I've seen it already) a lot of Americans and Europeans who'll want this game coming to their shores. There isn't -too- much to worry about right now...

hopefully sony will publish this then...
in fact it could work to their advantage cause if eternal sonata sells well in japan, us, and Eu (with sny publishing for the latter) Namco might be inclined to release some ps3 exclusive games for them, or more multiplatform titles where the ps3 version has been absent.

im sure it will have english on it so i will just import it. thats why i love this region free stuff that sony does now.

edit: play asia has an asian version listed and all asian version of the games support english text and voice over.

I'm sorry, but I'm not surprised at all. I would think if Sony offered to help publish it in Europe or North America, they'd take it... But I highly doubt that would happen considering it isn't that large of a game.

Although, I might import it when it goes down in price despite own the 360 version :)

Boy, you know the meaning of "exclusive", right? Because I think it doesn't mean what you think it does.

True. But still, I will be very pissed if nobody releases it in the US/PAL regions. I can import from the USA if I have to, but unfortunately I do't speak japanese, so I'm kinda dependant on those.

have no fear - it will come
most of the localization effort is already over and done with so the cost of bringing it is very low.
Expect to find out that Microsoft has some time left

sept 18 2008 would be my guess ^_-

So Eternal Sonata is coming out in Japan first, Well Disgaea 3 is coming out in August and Valkyria Chronicles is coming out in the fall so I'll have my hands full with those two until, if they decide to bring it to the U.S. for the ps3.

Edit: Bubbles, I'm pretty sure more RPGS will come out next year.

Oh, sure, no plans for this one in the US, but Tales of Vesperia? They already have english screens for it and it's not even out in Japan. Like it would sell any better than ES. It'll tank in both Japan and outside.

Namco Bandai are turning into such Xbox360 whores.

20 - That's fuked up, I beat this game on the Xbox 360
Beautiful looking game with good English voice overs. But as an action-based game it was a little easy.

I'm sure sony needs help with the Jrpgs in Japan, I mean how many have came out over there Exclusively?

Localization is already done with the 360 version, all this game needs is a publisher. If Namco can publish that sh!tty Fatal Inertia, they sure as hell can publish this. Its all going to be based on demand. I think its safe to say Eternal Sonata will be good for PS3 because its a pretty decent game and FFXIII and White Knight are probably not coming this year. I can't name a single good jrpg on PS3 except Folklore which was released last year.
