360 version of GRID hits the skids

From Gamer.tm "It seems that not all is well with the 360 version of GRID,with gamers complaining that the game repeatedly freezes during play.

The cause of the problem appears to be the 360's hard drive. So GRID's executive producer Gavin Raeburn has told the Codemasters forum, the British developer believes that "the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks/sectors."

According to Raeburn though, Codemasters is "close to getting to the root of the problem" and that "a patch will be released as soon as [Codemasters] can get it through Microsoft [certification]."

It seems that no similar issues have been reported with the PS3 or PC versions."

its what i said before, the engine that the game is running on is the Phyre engine, Sony's cross platform engine. thus its superior on the PS3 even though the game looks %99.9 identical to each other

People may disagree because they have an alternative opinion than you.
Your comment was as if you said "How could anyone possibly disagree with my opinion on games."

If you were to state a true fact and then you got disagrees then THAT would be ridiculous, but not with opinions. Well done on making yourself appear intelligent.

3.3 - Different strokes ford different folks...
I love PGR and Forza, but I also loved Dirt. Each of these have different aspects of racing highlighted. I expect GRID to focus on the intense, visceral, white-knuckle experience of racing automobiles. I could care less about drifting but the rest of the demo was pretty awesome, plus I am almost done with GTA.

I really doubt that Grid has any issues locking up. But I would rather have Grid lockup over GTA4 locking on a ps3.

i don't think the freezing issue is the fault of the hardware.(regardless of system) GTA had freeze issues on both consoles. i think it comes down to the developers. of course, i'm not qualified enough to know for sure, but every so often games have this problem. since all games don't freeze, i would say it has to be the devs of the game in question.

Seems like everyone is giving it a 9/10 while ignoring the technical flaws in the game: the frame-rate and screen tearing issue on the PS3. But the same can be said about GTA IV (with plethora of 10/10 everywhere) which coincidentally also suffers from multitiude of technical issues. It seems like with the next-gen games, we're getting the kind of problems that PC gaming had been facing all these times and patches and updates seem to be the norm. No longer can you play a game out of the box without having issues. I think reviewers instead of slapping 10/10 so liberally, should spend more time reviewing games and my suggestion is that the "rushing a review before your competition get theirs online" attitude should be replaced with a more throrough reviews that would benefit the consumers instead of the publishers.

7.2 - Again with the screen tearing. But frame issues?
I barely notice any tearing and absolutely no frame rate issues on the PS3 demo. I did notice a tear here and there but you have to look for it and I only noticed it while watching someone else play the game. I don't notice it while I myself am playing GRID.

You want to see bad tearing play the original Moto GP. If anyone has ever played that game they will tell you what distracting tearing is all about. The city tracks on that game were like viewing the graphics being ran through a blender.

The only time video tearing bothers me is if it's a distraction while playing the game. It's not. BTW Codemasters said it won't be there at all on the final build of the game.

But why are we talking about the PS3 version when it's the 360 version that is locking up?

The screen tearing (v-sync) is worst in the San Francisco race. Because the problem Codemaster admitted there was a problem in the PS3 released demo.
Don't get me wrong- my problem isn't with Codemaster, GRID or any games out there that get good reviews only to be discovered later to have inherent technical issues.
As to the MGS4; I'm more or a racer than an FPS kind of gamer so there's no reference to MGS4 since I couldn't care less. But I did buy into the GTA IV hype (although I played GTA:San Andreas) so much so that I was at the midnight sale. It's a good game but not great as the reviews suggested. But after putting about 8 hrs into the games, my PS3 would freeze at loading and caused me (and most PS3 gamers) to lose the saved game . That in my opinion wouldn't have happened had the reviewers mentioned such problem in their reviews. Instead the review was filled with high praise that in my opinion is undeserving.

MGS4 is not a FPS kthx.

As for the issues with the 360 version, there'll be a patch whenever they can figure out whats wrong.
Just hope that it really isnt an issue with a harddrive or a lack thereof, or something for those who bought it without the room or the HD period.

7.5 - Codemasters said they added V-Sync to the PS3 version
A few weeks before release, so screen tearing is about as prevalent as it is on the 360 version (i.e. almost never).

13 - No Freezing issue here!!!
But the game is a complete garbage!
Cars physics are officially a bullsheet. Cars are going like they are not belong to roads. Act like rally cars. Moving CANS!!!
Not enough cars.

AND THEN
* ejects the game
* inserts PGR 4 and ROCKS!

My hopes are'nt very high on this game especially the physics on the "demo" was a bit of a let down, fingers crosed though that they make a few tweaks to fix this issue and make it a little bit better for the actual game release., but am still buying it just because of the great line-up of cars and a few tracks the developer has put in.
Plus I want to try my G25 steering wheel, not the XBox 360 version anyways.

The in car driving view is terrible. It felt very strange. It handled really glitchy compaired to GT's. I cant go back to that arcady...crappy driving once I've played GT

17.1 - GT is garbage
GT Really isn't that great. Yeah, I admit, it looks stunning in most parts. But the handling physics suck. The cars slide in a rather unrealistic manner and the way the car behaves when running off the track onto the grass is far from simulation. Forza 2's physics model is far better than GTp but even it's not what I'd call a simulation. Neither really handle in a truly realistic manner. GTR2 on the PC feels more realistic to me.

Personally, I really enjoyed GRID demo. I didn't expect a simulation, so wasn't bummed out when I didn't get it. I got exactly what I was hopeing for. An arcadey game with a serious feel and impressive crash physics and graphics. Couldn't ask for more really.
