Ubi "not ready to be more specific" on Splinter Cell

CVG tracked down a Ubi spokesperson for the official line: "In reference to speculative stories that have appeared recently, in January of 2008 we announced that the game would be released in the fiscal year of '08/'09. And at this point in time we are not ready to be more specific than that. We will begin to communicate more once we feel the time is right for us and our fans."

1 - That's because
They're completely redoing the series and core gameplay mechanics,a move that will see the release of the next Splinter Cell well beyond 2008.

i think they should try the british approach and step into the pitch and say they value the franchise greatly and they were not happy with the design. they only want to give fans the very best sequel that will further the character and story and not damage it. they do not want to take a direction simply because it is different but because it is right. If they would tell fans this instead of dancing around they would be better for it.

i will say there may be a fight going on right now between someone like mathieu ferland and the top brass and that could be the reason. i picture ferland wanting 5 million to go back to the drawing board and the head honchos saying we like you idea as it is.

IMO they need to get rid of SAM... (with his new EMO haircut)

SC is a funny game, with nice mechanics and gameplay... but in terms of story and main char... is awful...

Too Human will be average at best, from what i've seen in the previews its not impressing me at all, and likewise with Spilter Cell that series has been a bore since the second one in the franchise

2.2 - Not Good.
Not Good.

If that`s true, the ONLY real BIG games they have this year are Fable2 and GeoW. Fable2 is a bit more "niche".

Look as if all MS has done is made a new HALO w/ GeoW. It`s kinda sad really, they need to buy more 1st party studio.

actually it is good the delay occurred. obviously you don't delay a multimillion dollar game for no good reason. often the extra time pans out - mgs4 - sometimes it doesn't help - haze. sitting on a game whose only draw is the engine technology, it would be bad to delay until that technology is outdated. in that case you didn't really have a good game at all, just a tech demo.

or delaying until a key feature you had was pulled off better by someone else - as in a cover mode. otherwise delay is a good thing. there is a point when you have to put the game out. if a game stayed in development until it was perfect it would never ship.

i like the character of sam fisher but they started making fatal mistakes in sc3 and ferland was responsible for one of those. first they removed the grey hair and locked sams age at 42 despite his being past that age in the first game. we already have androgynous blonde 19 year olds saving the universe in other games. one of the great things about sam was his curmudgeon attitude. then we get to scda and they pull the equivalent of superman returns and emo sam. it is one of the reasons the regular xbox version was superior. there was less of that, the sp game was a great deal longer and regular coop was in the game. just a superior version. ign wrote an article for insiders about that.

they need to do what is necessary to correct their mistakes so they don't wind up with another highlander 2 on their hands. sc3 was the most successful to date and they were idiots for changing the direction. you don't take a million dollar racehorse that is getting faster and faster with every race and winning all the time and drastically change his training regimen.

Bummer. Well it is good if they can create an excellent game with the extra year or two. When I finished played Assassin's Creed, I was a bit afraid that SplinterCell: Conviction may end up having the same AI, etc. AI in assassin's creed was pretty horrible, and it would have ruined the splinter cell series. I just hope they show something at E3. Microsoft wasn't really expecting that. Now they are left with 3 games Gears of War 2 & Fable 2 which are going to be cult hit, while Too Human will receive mix reactions from what I seen in the previews so far.
Banjo well I am skeptical, I mean the game is totally focused towards kids. I mean they should have pushed it like Insomniac does with Ratchet series, that both kids and adult can enjoy the game. But its still to early to pass a judgment on Banjo. Lets hope for the best.

4 - Translation...
We are reworking the gameplay and will wait for the MGS4 hype to die down before we release any info.

Well at least that's what I think it means.

Apparently the 360 isn't powerful enough to run the new splinter cell either. I was really looking forward to the game because of the new direction it was going and i'm hoping they stick with it. The delay is probably for the best because you don't want this to go up against Gears 2.
