Ubisoft on Splinter Cell Conviction delay: If it's not from an official source, it's a "punt"

VG247: Ubisoft has said this morning that an Xbox World 360 story claiming Splinter Cell Conviction is "on hold" isn't answerable unless it's come from an official source. Which it hasn't.

"If they've got a Ubisoft source then there's something to be answered there, but if it's just them commenting on something that they've heard, then it's hard for us to make a statement on something that someone's just taken a punt on," said a UK PR rep for the firm.

1.1 - i am sick of people touting this game as AAA and comparing against MGS.
The game was never a AAA title to begin with during the ps2 or xbox era.
I played like atleast 3 of them.

Is this the game everyone is waiting for?
no. simple as that. because it's going to be similar to last 5 games.

There has been way too many splinter cell games. Lets move on to another IP ubisoft.

Ubisoft, are you saying it is delayed? or not? I mean....if it isn't delayed then what is the harm in saying that it isn't going "back to the drawing board"?

Surely an official statement can be made asserting that the game isn't being restarted without letting out release timelines.

This story smells of real. We haven't seen anything new from this game for a looong time. The game looks like it plays like a much less open ended combo of Assassin's Creed and GTA4; Or like the Jason Bourne series without Jason Bourne.

Then again its nice to see a developer who specifically decided to deny the PS3 a version of this game fall on their face. Remember not only did they say they weren't making a ps3 version they proceeded to bash the system in the process.

Not taking a fanboy stance on this, but seeing a dev bash a system like that shows how immature this industry is getting.

4 - I run a games store in MTL...
I can tell you for a fact that a dev that was no longer on the Splinter Cell project, told us a few months back that it was not going well, all this recent news is clearly a result of what he was saying. We usually get good insiders from the people not on lockdown and he seemed a little peeved at the whole Splinter Cell thing happening at Ubi Mtl. I`m willing to bet that the original `back to the drawing board` story is real and the game will be delayed.

Let`s hope they figure it all out and get this game going.

Pretty bad news day for Ubisoft. First the Haze reviews, embargo and IGN's score and then, rumors of a huge Splinter Cell 5 delay and possible reboot.

If it does have to go totally back to the drawing board you might as well forget about it. We'll see Alan Wake or a good Uwe Boll film before this game.

Vaporware. Trash it and start working on Assassin's Creed 2 imo, Desmond becoming an assassin in that future setting = win.

Agreed. Assassin's Creed 2 will ROCK.

But I wouldn't put possiblity of a good Uwe Boll film along with Alan Wake. Wake might still come out in 2009.
A good Uwe Boll film comes out when Duke Nukem Forever is released :)

But seriously, Xbox World is kind of a valid and official source so I'm not sure what Ubi means by this.

No Splinter Cell game has ever been released on time, so this one won't be any different.

Seriously, why the disagrees? Every Splinter Cell game has been delayed, this one has been delayed, they've all been delayed. I just don't understand how can someone disagree with facts? It's hilarious.

this is the 3. delay of SC5.
Pushed Back 3 times :(
Believe me this game is a Multi now

Edit: you are right but they was delayed one time not 3 times.
The first release date was Fall 2007 than Winter 2008, and now it
pushed back to 2009

9 - WHAT DID LUKE SKYWALKER AND HAN SOLO SAY IN THE STAR WARS MOVIES?
"I've got a bad feeling about this."

Agreed 100% that if we get no NEW MATERIAL on this game by E3, then you can write off 2008 and most of 2009 for its release. Damn disappointing, especially for MS, who could use all the AAA exclusives it can get this year... still, if Ubi Montreal can get it together, there's still hope for a knockout game... eventually... I do miss Sam Fisher....

The story was saying this could possibly come out in late '09 or 2010? Wow, you could start a game today and get it out by then. Maybe they realized what they had wasn't working and started over from scratch, or maybe they took one look at Bourne and said well, that's better than what we got.
