Gears of War 2: Too violent for some?

Could Microsoft's newest action game have gone too far?

Gears of War was famously banned in Germany, after the country's ratings organization declined to issue the game an age certificate. Gears 2 covers much of the same ground, but adds in more realistic visuals, a deeper plot, and battles that concentrate more on mobility and dynamic combat than the original, which some decried as a prettier version of the old "whack-a-mole" parlor game.

geas wasnt banned it wasnt released at all,
because of the inevitable ban if they would have released it.

it would be funny if epic would ad some nudity or sex parts.
2 nipples would get the banned in the us in no time, but dismembering and gutting people is no problem, twisted reality anyone ?

gta4 wasnt banned because they submitted it to the rating boards and received theyre deserved 18

gears wasnt because of the dismembering with the chainsaw wich is a nogo for the rating board here, so they didnt submit gears at all, so it got an auto ban here.

but tbh i really really dont understand how gta4 passed the board couse kicking and shooting dead bodys (with physical visual impact) is a ban reason.

Does the current german government have anything to do with what went on 50+ years ago? No. Is there a significant trace in the German political strucure of that era? No. If you ever go there you'll find that the ones most apalled by hitler n' gang are the germans themselves.
Is Germany ruled by a conservative christian right-wing coalition of political parties (except the social democrats)!?!?? Yes. Result---> superficial morality and short-sightet policies, for example censoring violent entertainment media.

This kinda relates to what I work with, so I don't want to keep talking because I've got two weeks of, sweeeet, video games here I come.

Then I don't think any game can be much worse than what we've already got in mainstream media & games. The Horror genre in movies now adays should be called the Gore genre, lol.

It's all "Shock & Awe" nowadays in the Gore department, movies & games just trying to outdo one another.

I saw Wrong Turn 2 and was COMPLETELY disgusted! Something needs to be done about the violence in the media, but we cannot deny the protections aforded by our constitution. So the best solution is to get responsible and keep it away from the kids. I mean, I'm 23 and that movie creeped me out!

Personally, I grew up on Mortal Kombat Resident Evil and several other infamous games. But when you take the "fun" or "entertainment" out of a game/movie and leave the adult themes and violence, it's not for kids anymore. If it's cartoony and retains "some" humor amidst it's darker tones, then it's a flip of a coin. Whatever your desecion may be, just KNOW your kids.

Know what they think about the content.
If it's giving them nightmares, get rid of it.
If it's getting them into trouble at school, get rid of it.

However, if they're confident young schollarly minded responsible adolescents who can decide for themsevles what can and cannot be acceptable, give them the freedom to reason BUT ALWAYS BE THERE to protect them!
