Will Guitar Hero IV and Rock Revolution Over-Crowd the Market?
18
This gameplayer article questions the sudden influx of music related gaming titles, with three big guns all set to launch on Australia within weeks of each other.
"Since Rock Band has been delayed for so long in Australia, with a rumoured September release date, for all intents and purposes these three games will be dropping all at once. This will mean two things for consumers: freedom of choice (which is good) and utter retail chaos (which is not)."

3 - alll i have to say is...
i can't wait until i can open up any magazine without seeing some dumb music game, guitar hero while excellent at first got old fast, and with rock band it was sweet but no matter how many songs you make available it will still not be as fun the 10th time as the first. just stop with these games, if anything else stop putting them in the mags every other month

It's so pointless to have Guitar Hero and Rock Band. All we need is one game, Rock Band. When you add a drum set to guitar hero (which was recently announced), you aren't playing guitar hero anymore, you're playing rock band!
I say everybody boycott Guitar Hero so Harmonix stops being greedy and puts all their energy into one game.

4.1 - I agree!
When I received my newest Game Informer and saw that they were putting a drumkit in with the game, the first thing I said was "WTF!?? This is like Rock Band-lite.".
This whole GH/Rock Band universe is getting overpopulated.

4.2 - Harmonix
Harmonix are the developers of Rock Band and they are the Ex-developers of Guitar Hero, they made the 1st two games, Guitar Hero 3 and beyond (Areosmith and 4) are being developed by Neversoft and published by Activision, SO actually Harmonix is foxed only on one game and that’s Rock Band.

5 - like any genre it can happen
but funny we have many types of shooters / rpg's and no one says that they're over-crowding each other lol

well what differentiates a shooter/RPG to music game is accesories. Thats the problem, im sure people would buy more than one game, the problem is the compatibility problem between the accesories. unless theres a standard for these accessories, there will always be "overcrowdiness" within the Genre.

5.3 - I'm not buying any more peripherals
that's for sure. But what is getting me worried is who's gonna get the rights to which songs and/or bands. If they get spread out amongst too many games, there's a very good chance not one of the games will have a strong line-up of songs.

Drum set aside, what made Rock Band better in my opinion was the excellent implementation of DLC. They have 3 new songs come out almost every single week, and have it so you can download them all from an in game menu. It's just better.

6.1 - i agree
but what will sell me is less of the DLC and more of the songs on the disc-even though the DLC is always appreciated
i mean, if guitar hero 4 has some amazing encores and neversoft somehow lands zeppelin or something, its going to be a tough choice against rock band 2-theres just too many damn fake instruments!

8 - not buying anymore equipment
I like Guitar Hero and RockBand, but I am not going to buy more peripherals for Guitar Hero or Konami's game. If they all worked together that would be fine, but they won't. I have two wireless Guitar Hero controllers that I use for RockBand along with everything that came with RockBand. That should be enough to play Guitar Hero 4 without buying extra stuff. I will most likely not buy Guitar Hero 4 if it requires more, and I hope that they realize that they are going to lose a lot of their market if they don't make other developer's equipment compatible.
That's what I think!

8.1 - yeah
I'm not buying anymore equiptment either. Compatibility between peripherals is what I want and doesn't look to be in the cards. Comparing the RB drumkit and GH drumkit; I notice the colors are all switched... obvious difference is orange = base drum for RB but orange is the R cymbal for GH4...
If GH4 has a good enough setlist (as GH3 was totally disappointing) then I'll buy the game disc used.

Rock Revolution looks pretty crap. I know Konami started the genre with GuitarFreaks/Drummania but they need to update it a bit.
It's not really needed, GH and RB are enough. Unless they brought back Beatmania, damn I wanted to play that game bad!

I like Guitar Hero and look forward to IV but they will have to do a lot better with song selection.
Rock Band blew it out of the water for songs IMO

More like over crowding my living room, I know the accessories won’t work with other games so anyone who want to play 2 or more of these games need to purchase the whole set which is expensive and would fill up the living room, and so the only reason I’m going to buy one of these games if the song list really, really I mean really impresses me, other wise I’ll stick with rock band and their excellent downloads.
