In other words this game is short. I'm sorry but if the story is really good I love long games. I don't enjoy spending $60+ on a game that is less then at minimum 8hrs unless it has a good story or multiplayer.

1.3 - I love long games. Ocarina was long and goooooooooooood!
And I love excellent Boss battles (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and Shadow of the Colossus come to mind)
This guy seems to make an excuse. I mean, did you want a longer game? Then make it longer. But don't assume people want short games. There is a minimum 30 hour masterpiece coming in June that will probably take me 40-45 hours. We all know what it is... :p
Give me an epic adventure with excellent (and I mean superb) boss battles and color me happy. :)

YEah. Funny, first time I have ever played any GTA and I'm hooked. I don't even know how many hours and how many missions I've completed, but I'm hooked.
People are tolerant of mediocre games that are long. Some games are too long. But some games are too short.

It was at least in the teens and into the 20's of hours. It was great the whole way through. As long as a game is fun, I don't think anyone cares how long it is.

In australia a game costs me $120, I want it to have at least 30 hours of single player game play. Thats why games like GTA and FF will always be so better than all these new games that take 8 hours or less.
And people say "oh but it has muliplayer". Screw that, multiplayer sucks, 99% of ppl on the servers are jerks and its never any fun. Online gaming for the most part, sucks.

Way to generalize but I think the age of Hardcore gaming is over, as developers now cater more towards the casual market (the majority)

Yeah, I don't get why Rare are given such a big break considering their post 2002 output has been... well... terrible
When your best game for your new employers is a port of an N64 game, you know you're in trouble.
Honestly, Rare haven't made a good game since Conker's Bad Fur Day in 2001.

There is room for both. Im hoping Fable is longer the Molyneux has said, or that the side quests are entertaining cause 15 hours is just not long enough for a good RPG. COD4, perfect example of a great short game. But an RPG should be a large adventure. Banjo makes sense as a 10-15 hour adventure.

20 - Instead of everyone just Hating and bashing
at least throw your input at what the guys I trying to say.
It all depends on what type of gamer you are.
W/Jrpg gamer
Hack & Slasher
Platformer
Racing
Shooter
As there are some games that fall into the MIX, but I've heard people complain the game became to "repetative" towards the end and theys sorta just whizzed through it. I think depending on the game sometime towards the end it does get boring.
*Obviously this guy is not talking about your HARDCORE gamer that is dedicated to spending more than 20 Hrs+ in a week for gaming purposes.
HONESTLY if your a "3 console Owner", with all the games coming out this year 2008, Do you really have time for all? If not, you'll probably will not complain about gaming lengths unless it's like 2 hrs to beat or something.
I do agree some games are short, but you gotta imagine not all gamers are created "EQUAL". I know guys that will beat games in a single sitting without blinking..lol While some it takes a lot longer depending on the game /difficulty /time they have to play. To me the degree of difficulty is one factor we forget about how long or short a game may feel. As far as this game, no one has played it...too many assumptions.
I Beat Eternal Sonata in like 25 hrs and I'm playing Lost Odyssey and on 80Hrs. Does that mean ES was short, not really it was just on the EASY side. You can run around "fights" since you can see the monsters since it's not random. LO a whole different ballgame.
So answer this: If a game id "DIFFICULT" enough does it need to be 20 hrs long?

I guess that pretty confirms that Banjoe Kazooie 3 wont be a long game, but I have to disagree with that statement about people not tolerant for long games.
I like long games with long campaign/story mode. I guess that guy must have forgotten about RPG's or something. But, I do wish that more games that are non-RPG's were a lot longer.
It seems like the majority of developers are making up for short games these days with multiplayer, but I really don't care that much for multiplayer.
I think that there should be a requirement for video games to be a minimum of 13 hours long.... at least that way we would all know that we were getting a full $60 dollars worth without multiplayer because everybody doesn't play Online or Multiplayer.

23 - N4g article titles are so misleading
Has anyone read the whole article? Here's a quote from later in the interview:
"The trick is not forcing everybody to play it for a colossal amount of time. So if people want to try and complete it in like 20 to 30 hours that's fine. If people want to then carry on, that's fine."
BK: NB will be 20-30 hours long, but when you throw in the amount of customization one can make with the 1600 different pieces, and combine that with multiplayer, the game's much longer. He's saying make the main quest a decent length, for the people who play casually or don't have a lot of time, and add depth and replayability for the hardcore gamers who wish to continue playing for longer. Hypothetically, BK: NB could last 40+ of hours!

24 - Feel like titles in this generation looks awesome, but are fairly short in length.
Personally speaking it actually depends on the genre, for an FPS title I don't expect more than 15 hours compared to an RPG title where I would prefer around 40hours. But the interesting part about all this is that I have actually never completed any title I own ranging from 30 to 40hours . I'm not half way through Forza and I'm starting to become very frustrated because the game is so demanding. You literally pour your soul into that game, but my busy schedule cannot meet those demands.

most "People" aren't really tolerant of games at all. however, most "Gamers" love long games...you know, how all those millions of "Gamers" bought GTA IV knowing full well it'd be at least 50 hours long. this generation surprises me in a good way one minute, then baffles me the next. last generation games were cheaper and usually longer. this generation games cost more are shorter...with online multiplayer tacked on. for $60 i want both quality and quantity. Gears of War, Uncharted, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, etc. are all overpriced for the scant longevity they offer. and from the sounds of this article Banjo's gonna be a short one too.

also aren't the largest market. Most people who play games do so casually and want games that are easy to pick up and play for an hour or 2 at a time.

I think that is how games like GTA appeal to most (casual and hardcore) gamers alike. If a gamer wants to beat the game and doesnt have much time to play, then they can play it straight forward to beat it. If they want to go back for the 100% when they have some more time then they can do that also. Some people can only play on weekends, so shorter games would appeal to them more than 40+ hour games.

What this dude over at Rare didn't realize is, that the number one game in the world right now is 40 to 60 hours long (GTA 4)., real gamers don't care how long a game is as long as is fun to play from beginning to end. Seriously if you just want to half-ass your games and make them three hours long, not to mention their feakin' $60.00 dollars a pop. you should not be doing games at all, go make movies or something., you lazy bum.

And Drakes Fortune, Lair etc. Most games on both platforms average at about 10 hours. If space was an issue Mass Effect would not exist on the 360.
30 hours of gameplay, all dialogue with voice acting("In Mass Effect, every line of dialog has full voice over, and we have 20,000+ lines of dialog - roughly the equivalent of 20 movies.") plus the best graphics ever produced in a RPG. All fitted onto a single DVD9 disc.

@Jenzo
Except in Mass Effect, there was a lot of duplication and deception to get it to fit on that disk.
Look at any planet and the underground missions, the layout is almost exactly the same save different set pieces. The same thing is apparent for for those missions that occur in a compound or on a starship. In reality, the main story path is the only place where you'll see diverse and complex levels and art direction.
While I agree that Mass Effect had an ok conversation system, the game felt stunted. I would have been fine if they had made the game multiple disks in nothing more than to maximize the potential of DVD9.

Ok, that's your opinion and I respect it. I myself consider Mass Effect to be the greatest RPG of it's kind ever made. There's nothing like it on any other system.
How about GTA IV then? It's also on one DVD9. I feel it's hard to say the same things about that, don't you think? No place looks like the other, dialogue definately does not feel stunted(although it's not as good as in Mass Effect). I remember before it's release how some fanboys were saying "It's going to be on 4 discs on the 360."
What I think is the real problem here is that Blu-Ray hasn't given us any games yet that are noticably different than the games on the 360. There's lots of talk about how much space some games take up and soforth. But when you actually play them you don't notice if they take up 25gb or 5gb.
And it actually doesn't matter at all if the game is good, does it?. Not like a reviewer would give it a lower score because it's size in gb's isn't large enough.

GTA IV is another game where more storage capacity would have helped. While what's there is impressive, the fact that its half the game of previous iterations says a lot about the need for more space. Going from San Andreas, which I was playing just prior to GTA IV, to Liberty City was a disappointment.
The size of the city is not the only problem. Look at the audio content. It's almost exactly the same amount of songs and stations compared to past GTA's. While the 360 versions option for custom music is nice, those playing the PS3 version get shafted in the audio department compared to the fact if the game was an exclusive.
Also, it's apparent that GTA uses the same tricks that Mass Effect does to hid its short comings. More specifically, it chooses to highlight certain things--such as main character models and vehicles. While other things--everything else--suffers.

What a load of BS. People don't mind a long game, as long as its good! That is more than I can say about Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, and Viva Pinata. C'mon Rare, make a good game b4 you make a claim like that. Its been a few years since DK country and Goldeneye.

I like long games because they keep me involved. As long as the game is good and makes sense, I don't mind the longness at all.
And what he said made absolutely NO sense at all.

6 - Comin over here to the open zone to say
If you have to build for a system with no hard drive and DVD only space limitations, you get shorter games as graphics and sound space demands increase. Its not rocket science.

7 - No please take my money and make it as short as possible.
Sorry but if i'm shelling out $60 on a single player game it better be good and as long as they can possible make the game. I don't care about story mode lengths in online shooters i pretty much just head online before playing the offline part of the game. If your going to make a single player game i don't care for which console, put some effort into the length and the replay value.
