Harmonix and Red Octane put out Guitar Heroes 1 and 2 together. They've since split ways, with Red Octane partnering with Activision, and Harmonix with MTV Games, whom they've been with before through the MTV Music Generator games.
And as for all of the copying claims, don't forget that neither of these two games was the first to do what they do; that honor lies with Konami and the Beatmania series:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
"Konami has not produced an American version of DrumMania, since MTV Games holds the US patent for "drum simulation games", which MTV took full advantage of with the release of Rock Band." Does that mean GH will be paying some kind of concept royalty to EA/RB?

From someone that have Rock Band, I have to say, that drum set look a lot better than the Rock Band Drum set.
But don't they have to change the name of this game now, because it an entire band now, and not just the guitars

You cant play drums on 3 or 4 pads next to each other, its stupid, if you want to play the song/drums correctly you need at least a proper electric kit, but then again if your up for a bit of fun or a laugh, i gets its perfect, but if your hoping to learn the drums from this or rock band, forget it. Its a game at the end of the day, not an instrument.

Their strategy could involve introducing this at a lower overall package price than Rock Band. However, Harmonix/MTV could counter with their own Rock Band price cut.
They should move on to something else or just enhance what they already have.

This is retarded. I already bought RockBand, there is no way in hell I'd buy this game as well. I'm sure a LOT of people feel this way.
If they had a shred of intelligence, they'd make the two cymbals to add to your rockband's drumset, and base their game off that.
I hope they burn in hell!

there is no way i could go back to GH series after Rock Band. its easier for me to identify the notes....and the endless amounts of DLC imo is more attractive than buying a new game every year.

There is no way I will ever buy Rock Band. Harmonix and their new butt-buddies over at MTV can shove Rock Band up their ass. Any developer that sells out to the superficial f*gs at MTV deserves to fail.
If I ever purchase a rhythm game that incorporates a complete band package it will be Guitar Hero 4 or some future installment of it.

I've been a fan of Harmonix since, oh, the first MTV Music Generator game, so their buddying back up with MTV does little to deter me. THEY are where all the talent was anyways, in my eyes. I've owned every single MTV Music Generator, Frequency, Amplitude, the first two GHs, and now Rock Band, and they haven't disappointed me yet. Plus, whether it's MTV's pull, or Harmonix's status within the game industry, they get more consistent song releases, and a better variety of songs, in my opinion.

do you even know how much it would cost to make a full electronic drum kit, probably not, they would be over £250 / $500 just for the drum kit, no one would ever pay that on a game.

I don't really care about ripping of anyone in this business anymore but what I do care is that this will take the guitar part of the game to a smaller part of the game.
It's going to have songs that are well playable with the drums also and not just the guitar. We are going to miss songs that are awesome by the guitar part because they don't have so good drum part. Or if they include those songs it will be not so great to play with drums. I can assume also that the game modes are done to be played with drums also so the guitar part of the game is indeed going to be smaller part than in previous GHs.
And the drum set in the picture isn't going to be compatible with RB or the RB set isn't going to be compatible with GHIV. There are more pads and in different places. I don't want to buy two drum sets. They cost and they also take room.
And that thing is as ugly as hell!! And it still hasn't got two kick pedals!!!!!!
F*** you Neversoft for f***ing up a great game by poorly ripping of others!

I just hope they don't dumb down the guitar like Rockband did
I am all for competition, and these two franchises should push each other hard. But I will say, if Guitar Hero can keep the difficulty up I will much prefer that to Rock Band.

two comments on the drum kit...
1. if you're going go through the the trouble of adding two cymbals to it, you could atleast move one of them to the left of the snare piece (like every drum set ever)
2. there's nothing for that kick pedal to attach to... it's going to kicked around everywhere (well atleast by "amateurs", which will probably be almost everyone that buys this)
oh and third point... there's alot more material in that kit than rock band's so if they're putting it out at a lower price watch out

This is getting ridiculous, when is Harmonix going to realize we don't need a guitar hero and a rock band, just combine them dammit. I don't care what you call it, Guitar Rock Band Hero, just do it already.
It's so pointless to have 2 nearly identical games from the same Dev. competing w/ one another. But I gotta say, that drum kit looks wicked. Too bad they didn't add a high hat (cymbols controlled by a pedal). Some double base pedals would be nice to, I'm sick of one of my feet always getting tired.

1.1 - yea...
while i agree with your "combine" thing, harmonix doesnt develop both games
they develop rock band, while neversoft and red octane do guitar hero
so combination will most likely never happen
harmonix did develop guitar hero 1 and 2 though, so i can see why youre confused

Wait, so this is a 6-piece set? The Rock Band set is only 5-piece. (You've got 4 pads and a pedal)
I don't like this. I can already sense that the Rock Band kit won't be compatible with GH4. In which case, f*ck Guitar Hero 4, if the Rock Band stuff's not compatible with it, I'm sure as hell not buying more cheaply made but expensive-costing fake plastic instruments.
