hold on rick, that was the first gameplay vid. lets just wait and see when they show us another gameplay vid to judge.

the game should be hyped do to its success 2 years ago, but dont hype the game to the max. i dont see anything inovative about Gears gameplay wise except for chainsaw battles. KZ2 on the other hand is innovating. Now why would I say that? well the answer is the 1st person view cover that killzone has.

I hear you, not much of a step forward. All I'm seeing is a big scripted scene with enemies that have little AI functions. Those hordes of locusts on the ground look like moving pylons... no reaction function or triggers for the AI = no cpu needed. Just a bunch of cheap tricks for enemies, it still looks pretty though. I would honestly prefer to have the free roam enemy count doubled in exchange for some graphics fidelity.

If anything, I think we will see a bit of a shader improvement and free roam areas will remain the same with enemies. If they script majority of the game like this then I'm sure they'll fool a lot of people with all this.

I'll wait and see how multiplayer (including co-op) changes before I decide whether or not GeoW2 is innovative enough.

But honestly, it's a sequel. A same-gen sequel, no less. What sort of features did, say, KotoR2 have over KotoR1? Or Halo 2 have over Halo 1? EDIT after below gave me the idea: Or GoW2 have over GoW1? Sequels take the original gameplay and graphics and enhance/tinker it. They aren't supposed to be revoluntionary, unless it's also a jump in console generation - GTA4, MGS4, GT5, FF13, etc.

Here's a question - would people be nearly as interested in Killzone 2 if it were on the PS2 and thus lacked the PS3's graphical horsepower? What huge gameplay innovations is it bringing to the table?

Sequels to successful games are a difficult balance. Change too little, and you're accused of treading the same ground. Change too much, and you risk losing the loyal fanbase you earned in the last game.

It's part of the problem with having an innovate game that influences future releases. Suddendly EVERYONE is immitating those features and your innovation now seems stale. Which isn't fair, but that's the gaming world.

lol Seriously though what do you expect from a game that came out 2 yrs ago. The thing is even if the graphics were leaps and bounds better, fanboys will still say its more of the same. Very very very few sequels re invent themselves but does that stop them from being great? GOW2 is one of my favorite sequels and i loved it because it was just like bigger better and more bad a$$ than GOW1 :D

Let me fix your comment sonarus. Gears of war is The Killer app. It stands way above every other title for either system the first one proved it to be a highly fun and successful franchise that proved to be more popular with a sub 10 million intall base than mgs 3 with a 120 install base.

But it's never accurate. Show me Life-to-date sales of MGS3. Also, the PS2 was not at 120million units sold when MGS3 was released. It was closer to 70~80 million. Also, it came out around the time of Halo 2 and got lost in the mix, which Konami has publicly stated they're avoiding this time around.

It's pretty foolhardy to assume that every game will have a 20~30% attach rate like GTA IV.

socomnick, while it is one of the better games on the 360 this year, I really don't think it's THE "killer app", it's just A "killer app". To be honest, form the latest gameplay of the pre-Alpha build of Killzone 2, that game shows more promise.

Resistance 2, if it lives up to expectations, should also be among the best titles this year. As for the Game of the Year... no-one in their right mind should be doubting Metal Gear Solid 4.

Gears of War 2 should be great, though, and I can't wait to play it. But... there are plenty of other games this year that come first. Especially if you happen to own a PS3 :D

As for the sales of MGS3... that game came out when the PS2 had sold nearer to 80 million, and the console appeals to just about everyone. Out of "everyone", how many people do you think will have bought MGS3? So many games on the system, when everyone and their granny owns a PS2, one game is bound ot get lost in the mix amongst those who aren't familiar with the franchise.

Gears of War was also one of the few good games on the 360 when it came out, there wasn't exactly much else to buy.

If you want to talk about sequels being innovative look at what resistance 2 is doing. 60p multiplayer, up from 40. 8p online co-op, up from 2p offline co-op. Two storylines, up from one. I could go on and on, but you get my point. I agree that they need to do something more innovating with GeoW2.

Gears 2 looks fantastic and will continue the high standards set by the original. Killzone 2 looks to be in a league of its own if they can up the resolution of close-up textures and beef up the AI.

As for resistance 2, it looks heaps better than the original (which wasn't all that bad) but I have not seen anything yet that puts it in the same class as Gears 2 and Killzone 2. However, R2 is a potential killer title for different reasons...

then you're doing to resistance what people who haven't played gears is doing to it. have you played resistance 1? can't believe you have because: 1. the amazing weapons you get let you use all sorts of strategy during the game(plus they are a blast to use) 2. the story is one of the most interesting i've seen in a game.(just like the KZ or bioshock stories) those 2 points (in my humble opinion) put resistance "in the same league" as the other two games.

I dont know if you have noticed watdafuk but the 360 articles tend to have more PS3 fans commenting on them then 360 fans, whereas the trolling of PS3 articles by 360 fans is certainly alot less.

Look at Rick for instance, as a blatant PS3 fan, he has nothing better to do in the run of a day then look and discuss an article based around a game he will never buy. If an article comes out about a game he's not interested in why waste the time to read the article and then make comments on said article, not once but twice so far.

Wrong. Killzone 2 is introducing the first person cover system as well as CGI quality real-time visuals. Everything that Gears 2 is trying has already been done. Everything that the original tried was done years before. Why was it so overrated? Microsoft paying reviewers again.

The reason he said that was because when you look at Gears 1. Awesome graphics, awesome details, etc. And for two years straight, every X360 game that has come out still have not topped Gears of War 1 on graphics.

Then now we see Gears 2. It's just a more optimized version of Gears of War 1. So it's safe to say, the 360 is peaking rather quickly. Normally I would say consoles don't get maxxed until towards the end of the life cycle. But keep in mind the Xbox360 is just the same as a PC archictecture for YEARS now. There's only so much they can do with a Triple Core processor and Xenos Graphics card.

I agree with jaja1434, if you aren't developing for these consoles then how do you know their potential has been fully tapped? Also, making games costs lots of money. Epic knows gears 2 will sell well, maybe they could have invested another x million dollars into making it look better and using more of the systems power, but will they see more return for that money? From the videos i have seen it looks sweet, so i will buy it when it comes out.

and bold to say that Gears 2 has better graphics than KZ2 when only a 30 second clip was shown. As for Banjo being a AAA title... I wouldn't go as far as saying that YET.

As I've stated before, without a doubt Gears 2 will be a great game (you can expect no less from Epic); but to sit there and say that it honestly _looks_ better than KZ2 is just fanboyism... then again, it could just be your opinion.

Banjo was awesome one the N64. Do I think this one will suck? Probably not. But, in all honesty, I really don't think it's going to be a AAA title. Gameplay looks like every other platformer and graphics - and this is my opinion - don't look as good to me as people make it out to be. Just an opinion.

and explosions in gears look a little better to me, IMO they look almost the same, except KZ2 is really dark and grey. but technically i think KZ2 looks better because unless put some awsome physics in Gears2 thats adds to the gameplay like KZ2 had (the bridge being destroyed was uber awsome) the UE3 engine doesnt compare other than looking pretty. hopefully gears 2 has destructible environments that you can use to your advantage. that would make me REALLy impressed with gears graphics. but as of now KZ2 has gears beat just because its a more interactive world.

i still prefer gears gameplay wise though :P didnt like the first KZ and the second one eh, looks even slower pace than halo... :P

Personally, any game that I've seen using the Unreal engine seems to look like a bunch of bump mapping with Vaseline. Gears has great lighting, but any game I've seen using the unreal engine, seriously, looks like a game on vaseline (Army of Two, Gears, UT3, Bioshock, Turok, to name a few). There are some developers that know how to ease up on the "Vaseline" look and make it a little grittier as to remove the shiny-ness from objects that don't need shine.

lol you think KZ2 looks slower paced than Halo? Nah. Doubt that. The game, to me, looks like it is going to pwn in every category... including multiplayer - and that is coming from a Halo extremist.

Really though, Gears2 aint reinventing the wheel. All I'm lookin foward to is 5 on 5 mp with some more levels and guns. If they can deliver there I'll be happy.

The story mode might be worth playing, but the Gears1 story was paper thin, plus its like you're playing on rails the whole time. You don't really have freedom to go anywhere, you just kill the baddies and proceed to the next screen.
