So... Gears of War 2 Looks Awesome

"I was a huge fan of 2006's original Gears of War. It's been a while since a third-person shooter was able to capture my attention so effortlessly. The pop-and-shoot and aiming mechanics, while derivative to an extent, nearly perfected the ideas brought about by Gears' influences. Knock the game, if you want, for its cliched juiced-up hardass marine characters and its testosterone-injected premise. But the core of the game was superb.

Now Gears of War 2 is shaping up for release later this year. Judging by the first peeks at gameplay, it'll have the same basic mechanics from the original, but with bigger scale. I have no problem with that whatsoever."

Meh I'm not really concerned about any of those things. Gears of War was #1 on Xbox Live forever so whatever it is they were doing on multiplayer, they did it OK. Any improvement on that would, of course, be a good thing. Same for the storyline...it's an action heavy game.

I know alot of people who don't like Final Fantasy because there's so much storyline and maybe they might not like the gameplay, but I think Gears is built for those kind of people as well. The kind that say "is this cutscene over yet so I can chainsaw someone??", so any small upgrade to the storyline would be cool with the fans too, but basically this game is gonna sell as good or better than the original regardless of any improvements.

This is one of those games on the 360 that doesn't need a bunch of incredible upgrades in order for people to buy and enjoy it. The storyline and multiplayer could be the same and it'll still sell good, because it's Gears.

Yea storyline does make me a bit worried also hope theres more substance. We should get lots of multiplayer details on this months egm I have no worries here though the first Gears of war had superb multiplayer.

We've already seen the addition of multiple new characters (cowboy, girl etc).

Story wise, it would be nice if they allowed you to make choices about which character you'd like to follow at certain parts of the game. It probably wont be a very long game, so giving the player a few different route options would both, open up the "universe" (given more depth to the story, multiple views etc) and add a considerable amount of replay value.

but not much of one. It wasnt set on Earth, it was Sera a fictional planet.
There was something about Marcus Fenix's dad coz you visited their home and found a secret lab but i never follow the story in games, except BioShock, that had a good story

I'm pretty sure they've said they know Gears had story shortcomings and CliffyB has stated that the sequel should satisfy that vacancy we all feel from the lack of story in the first.

... and I'm in totaly agreement with the MP aspect. I'm hoping for a more fleshed out lobby system that makes it easier to hook up with friends. More stats would be nice too. BUT the BIGGIE for me is in MP is less GLITCHING/GLITCHERS.

1.11 - My only concern is

how it will run online.

I enjoyed the single player but I didn't get into the story all that much but I did get into the interaction between the main characters. The single player campaign was sweet. I played through it at least a dozen times. So I am not too concerned about the single player aspects.

Online Gears had some issues that ultimately had me look elsewhere to get my frag on. Epic patched the game a few times but the cheaters always found a way around them. Hopefully this version wont have as many glitches and you can play more then 4 vs 4 on XBL. It would be nice if they add more online modes as well.

3 - UE 3.5 demo ruined my excitement

The Unreal Engine 3.5 demo showcased on GDC basically unveiled most stuff that are expected in GOW2 and for that reason, I wasn't impressed when GT recently unveiling gameplay footage. Don't get me wrong, the game will be as awesome as the first and Epic have many months before the game hits shelves.

The game does look good. I'll agree that I think Killzone looks slightly better. Maybe that's graphics, maybe because I like the gameplay of first person games more than third person... maybe I just dig the more industrialized look of Killzone. Still, GeOW2 looks pretty slick and I'm happy for my 360 friends. This one is gold. I can't wait to play it on my PC.

Can't speak to the gameplay or story till November but the animation & quality of the graphics are absolutely in the same league as Killzone2.

It looks good as an XBOX 360 title; pretty soon I can see the PlayStation 3 being used as a verb. If this was on the PlayStatio 3 you would see amazing upgrades.

Sorry to burst your bubbles but not everyone will be amazed so quickly without really seeing anything new. I did read the article it's about the cover system and as far as I know Killzone 2 has one too. Since Killzone 2 is a game I will mention it if I want to because if you don't agree it doesn't make me a fanatic.

People these days say one thing bad about visuals and they jump all over you. I've played the first one I still have it and I will honestly say Ninja Gaiden 2 is following suit. It's the same game being put out again. I'm not saying that to be a fanatic boy I'm saying it because it's true, my opinion. I'm also not saying that game sucked as well, it's just more of the same thing.

So if I state if it was on the PC (Personal Computer) my attitude is uncalled for? That makes no sense everyone knows the PlayStation 3 is the most powerful TV console on the market.

Gears of War 2 looks good for an XBOX 360 title, Halo 3 looks good as an XBOx 360 title, Ninja Gaiden 2 looks good as an XBOX 360 title. Mass Effect now that's a better looking game I haven't got to much playing time though.

Even with that said the exclusive PlayStation 3 titles look better than XBOX 360 titles.

I have that video in my Killzone 2 blog I find the one I posed having better quality.

your response is to compare Halo 3 to KZ2, Forza to GT 5, and Perfect Dark to R:FoM. yeah, your grounded in reality.....

hmmmm, let's see, both KZ2 and GT5 aren't even out yet. Yeah your really reasonable. And then Perfect Dark, to R:FoM; i don't even think i have ever seen anyone spout that comparison.

The fact is, it's Gears Vs R:FoM, and we know who won there. Both games are the developers first outings on the hardware. And just in case you forgot, gears was in development when the 360 was being created, so technically, it's a first gen game.

Halo 3 will be almost a year and a half old when KZ2 comes out, and let's not forget how long that's been in development. Then there is the venerable GT 5, Forza 3 will most likely be out when that shows up to the gaming party. And Forza 2 has so far shown more evolution then what's been delivered in GT 5p and if that is any indicator of the direction Polyphon.... is going then Forza 3 might be the Racing simulator to get (By at least my standards).

There is a point when you have to ask yourself if there's something mentally wrong with yourselfs I have never seen this level of emotional attachment to a console.

The level of attachments is that of a friend or family member being attacked. No forget that! you're like savage and rabid EUROPEAN Football fans vs the 360's NFL fans.

You've been spoiled because the PS3 had 4 months of good news and now that the 360 has been getting good news for the last month and PS3 bad news you fucs are more out of control then ever.

For one, Banjo and Kazooie is an amazing franchise and a great platformer. Just because it was never on a Sony console gives you the right to put it down without even playing? That's sad.

At this point I think Halo 3 and COD4 have layed down some fantastic groundwork for how online multiplayer should be done. Hopefully all the great shooters coming out this year take notice.

Keeping the action flowing, making it easy to get into games = a good multiplayer setup.

Now why oh why didnt Ubisoft consider this when they made RSV2?
