GTA IV: "Glitch Free?" Not for me

NGBiz writes: "So Take-Two's chairman told CNBC that Grand Theft Auto IV is "glitch free." Then why did I encounter the dreaded "freezing problem" multiple times?"

"the game locked up during a cut scene: the picture froze, but the audio continued. So I reset the PS3. Then it froze shortly after during a mission. Then I reset it. Then it froze during a loading screen. Reset. Freeze. Reset. Freeze."

It has become very clear that the problem is on the PS3, and not as the lazy early reports saying the Xbox 360.

Almost every post, story, survey and otherwise have shown this. Heck, even Rockstar has only suggested a "repair" on the PS3... why? Because there is nothing to fix on the Xbox 360 - the game only has a problem on the PS3.

This article just helps confirm this.

1.1 - Here we go again.....
Shouldn't your comments go in the open zone? I am so sick of these freakin' flame wars! Look people, both consoles have there pluses and minuses. I do have a personal preference when it comes to consoles. But, guess what? When I do occasionally get the opportunity to play on the rival console, I have just as much fun as I do playing games on my prefered console.

2 - Must have been a bad batch of cds...
I haven't had any problems whatsoever, nor any of my friends have reported having any issues with it.

Either way, I'd rather have a problem with the software, rather than a problem with the hardware (RROD FTL!) :D

So far no glitches here... And would the PS3 issue technically be a glitch? Personally I don't think so. I'd say more of a technical error than a glitch. I have had some screen tearing and loading lags late in the game but for the most part this is one of the solidest games I've played. At times annoying yes, but no glitches nonetheless. Unlike it's predecessors GTA IV is rock solid...

5.1 - Some theorys are pretty weird....
Some are saying its the emotion engine....others are saying its the software...facts are it seems there are more problems with the ps3 then on the xbox....people with freezing issues on the xbox are going to be visited by the rrod fairy i think...the ps3 problems are a mixed bag from some freezing to the blu-ray drive breaking. Having experienced rrod with gears of war, its big games that are blamed for hardware failures...i know i blamed gears of war.

7 - i have a worse problem with this game
that i havnt seen mentioned anywhere which scares me because if there is no mention then maybe it wont get patched. in the middle of playing, my ps3 just randomly turns off. its completely random, sometimes it wont happen for 4 hours, others times, it turns off every 5 mins like clockwork. but it does it everytime. i just have to hope i get it when its in a good mood. this REALLY disrupts gameplay and is usually the reason why i turn the game off, because im sick killing the SAME guys on the SAME mission with some dude, then when i drive the SAME dude home the ps3 restarts. so i have to do the SAME damn mission 3 times.
please r* do something!!!!!
other than that, game is awesome, no freezing or pop up issues

i have not had any freezing on my ps3, but i have had really, really bad frame rate issues... i am talking bad, like mass effect bad.

i am guessing its my copy or my ps3 cos i have not read of anyone else having this problem.

On the flip side not had any issues with my 360.

asking me what difference i see, well ( apart from the frame rate problems ) The ps3 does have much sharper colors and when its dark, its really dark. The draw distance is better, but it has more jaggies.

The 360 has a softer contrast and the colors are not as sharp, definitely less jaggies, but the draw distance is not as far. You still see the object but it does this funny blur effect thing.

while these are the differences that i have noticed, i spent almost 2 hours looking for them. i waited till i had the same time of day in game, parked in the same spot, made sure i have the same settings on both channels and looked, and looked.

They are not differences that jump out at you or you would notice unless you looked very hard. The only major one was the color.

still, its a shame that so many people are having these problems, the frame rate is very off putting, but it may just be me.
