I don't know how you figured that...but if there are 1M PS3's in UK and they sold 274K copies of GTA IV on day 1 that means that 27% of all PS3 owners bought the game day 1, as opposed to if there are 2M 360's in the UK and they sold 335K copies that means only 16% of 360 owners bought the game on day 1 meaning more PS3 owners got the game on day 1 than 360 owners.

I stay in the UK but there is one big problem.Six of my friends pre ordered the game.2 on PS3 4 on 360.

None of us that pre ordered for the 360 version are getting it till the 6th of may at the earliest but the PS3 guys have gotten their copies.

Everyone buys a GTA game, thats why it's the biggest game in history. But... PS3 is mostly bought for Blu-Ray movies, thats why your attach rate is lower than the Wii, a game system that has outsold the 360 and PS3. PS3 owners have 3 games on average but have about 15 movies, so that would be like every one game a PS3 owner buys, they buy 4.5 movies. Since the PS3 movie attach rate is higher than it's game attacht rate shows that most owners use if for movies. This one game as an acception to the rule, because it's so big, but this one game doesn't change the fact that the PS3 has the lowest attach rate in games. When you compare that to how well the console is selling, then add the never increasing attach rate in games, just shows it's a DVD player more than a game console.

(typed this up in a moving car on the highway, don't worry I'm not driving)

This is just UK numbers. The install base for the 360 is bigger and it did have a price cut last month. The 360 has been outselling the PS3 in the UK due to the price cut. EU, overall, the PS3 has been outselling the PS3 weekly, so I do believe the PS3 version will outsell the 360 version by a small margin.

edit: no pudding. overstocked the 360 and understocked the ps3??? ofcourse they did! that's exactly what happened!! and i wouldn't be so certain that europe will sell more ps3 copies either. there is more 360s in europe than ps3s, and, i live in france, i had to wait for nearly an hour for the indie shop in my town before it arrived(by taxi lol). i was at the back of a queue of over twenty people... and i only saw 3 that's rite THREE ps3 copies go, and the rest were 360 copies....trust me, it was only a small box that came by taxi on tuesday, and i was sh!tting myself that i wouldn't get one.

the difference is not bad at all, its actually pretty close if you see that 360 has double install base and sold about twice as much so they are selling pretty much the same. the world wide total should be a better indication of which console benefited more from GTA4 in consoles and games sold. This game really deserves all the attention.

That's because people are mostly stupid sheep, and like sheep they follow the crowd and buy the next 'in' thing. The wii's success is mostly because of it being a fad and people having no idea what a real next gen console is.

These UK numbers are interesting though, considering the install base for each console. It will be very interesting to the world wide numbers. personally I would like to see sony win because of the fact microsoft were so arrogant. It will also be halarious to see them lose because that haaaate it when they're wrong.

I disagree with you Jess. I think the Wii has found so much success because Nintendo has really tapped into something. As a hardcore gamer I don't nearly give my Wii as much love as I should, but it appeals to a much broader base than the 360 or PS3. My wife's friends have done some drunken Wii playing after a girls night out. These are girls that have never touched video games. One just couldn't believe how much fun it was. This kind of reaction is typical of the people that I have gotten to try the Wii. But this is just what I have seen in my home.

As far as the Wii being a fad I think you can't really classify it as a fad. The Wii has been the hot item for two holiday seasons now. Fads really don't have that kind of staying power. People buy the Wii because it's fun. When they play it they have fun. According to hardcore gamers it's a toy, but video games are supposed to be fun. The Wii is. Isn't that what it's really all about?

Sorry but RROD is not a joking matter, we may talk about it but its really stupid IMO for a consumer to go out and buy an electronic KNOWING there are extreme high chances of breaking. Yes we understand ware and tear things like the optical driving breaking, but the actual system "melting" inside is another story.

BTW freezing apparently occurs on the xbox also... at least the ps3 will not suffer from total freeze (rrod).

It seems that xbox has sharper graphics but the trade off is ps3 has less texture popins and it is smoother. All I could say if your playing with a large environment game like gta , I would like less pop ins.

For instance if you in a helicopter you can see the water textures from a further distance than the xbox counter part.

The only advantage I see from the xbox version is sharper graphics thats about it (and oh yah gta is more of a single player game than anything else)

Study shown that europe and the uk sells more games than us.

It was on here before. But then again its been shown that the 360 sells games 2:1 than the ps3 and thats disputed, has spin put on it, damage control.

You know the comments about how there are more 360's out there so it would sell more right after the comments about the 360 being dead and every game on the ps3 will sell more than the 360.
